NOVICE INTERNAL MOOT ELIMINATION – 2022

COMPETITION & SELECTION RULES


ABOUT THE COMPETITION

Novice Internal Moot Elimination (NIME) is an annual internal moot elimination of Lloyd Law
College & Lloyd School of Law to select students from BA.LL.B. / B.Com.LL.B. (2021-26)
and LL.B. (2021-24). The event is organised as per Section 4 (B) of the Restructuring of
the Moot Court Society Rules, 2021.

DRESS CODE

Boys: White shirt, black trousers & black blazer, black formal shoes.
Girls: White shirt/kurti, black trousers & black blazer, black formal shoes.

VENUE & DATE


The competition shall take place at the New Campus, Lloyd School of Law, on 2nd Sunday
after the completion of the Odd-Semester final exams in February.

LANGUAGE

The competition shall be in English language.

ELIGIBILITY

The competition is open for Lloyd Law College and Lloyd School of Law students enrolled in
B. A. LL. B. 1st year or B. Com. LL. B. 1st year or LL. B. 1st year.

TEAM COMPOSITION

Each team shall consist of 2 members. The number cannot be modified under any
circumstances.
REGISTRATION

1. The teams shall register online via filling the Google Form
https://forms.gle/iLBa3UnwY9BznSLY8
2. The last date to fill the form is TUESDAY 25 January 2022.

OBLIGATIONS

1. The Selected Students shall work from 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Lloyd School of Law
premises on official-working Days and from 09:00 AM to 07:00 PM on non-working
Days.

2. No exceptions shall be granted to any student from this rule irrespective of any
situation or condition. There is no flexibility of Work from Home in Moot Court
Society.
3. The Selected Students shall not become part of any other society, and if they are
already a member of any other society/groups, they need to withdraw their
membership post-joining the MCS.

MEMORIALS

1. Each team shall prepare a memorial on behalf of each party.

2. The memorials must be submitted on an A4 size paper printed on both sides and
must contain:

A Cover page (in prescribed colour sheet).

The table of contents.

The index of authorities.

The statement of jurisdiction.

The statement of facts (1 page only and argumentative statement of facts


would attract penalties).
The statement of issues.
The summary of arguments (not more than 1 page).

The arguments advanced (not more than 15 pages).

The prayer.

3. Uniform font style is to be used throughout the memorial. The font style should be
‘Times New Roman’. The font size of the text should be 12 (doubles space), and for
footnotes, font size should be 10 (single space) & double space is to be adhered to
between two footnotes. Font colour must be black. The participants may follow any
uniform citation style.

4. The memorial must have a margin measuring one inch on all sides of each page.

5. The page numbering should be on the top right corner of each page.
6. Covers must be placed on the memorials as follows:

Plaintiff/Claimant: Light Blue Color; Defendant/respondent: Light Red Color.

ORAL ARGUMENTS

1. Each team shall be provided with a total of 23 minutes to present their case. 2
minutes will be provided for rebuttal and sur-rebuttal.

2. The division of time is at the discretion of each team, subject to a minimum of 10


minutes per speaker. Each team shall inform about the division of time to the court
officers before beginning the arguments.

3. The oral arguments need not be confined to issues presented in the memorial.
4. Passing of notes to the speakers by the researcher during the rounds is allowed.
SCORING

Knowledge of facts.
Application of legal principles and factual analysis.

Coherence and clarity.

Persuasiveness.

Deference to the court.

Articulation.

Knowledge and use of legal sources and authorities, and general legal principles.

Ingenuity (ability to argue by analogy from related aspects of the law)

ORGANISING COMMITTEE

The Organizing Committee shall have the sole discretion to amend, add or delete any rule.
In case of any dispute the decision of the Organizing Committee shall be final and binding.
