Procedures to take mud pump measurements

• Issued permit to work PTW

• Prepare mud pump turning tools
• Disconnect extension rods from the pistons rods by removing clamp between of both
• Drain oil from the sump
• Open mud pump main cover and crosshead covers
• Clean oil sump very well

Measure Point NO.1 & 2 & 3 &4 for pinion and crank shaft bearing
• -Using long feeler gauge, check which ball bearing free as in figure point c (there is around four ball at angle 30
or opposite direction ) insert feeler paper between ball bearing and outer race bearing as showing in the
figure

Measure Mud Pump Eccentric Bearing

• Using turning tools to move connecting rod to become in horizontal position approximately
• put magnetic base at crank shaft and dial indicator tib at connecting rod as showing in the figure
• Use pen to make a mark at dial indicator tib to make sure no movement for connecting rod during
jacking up and down
• Put jack under connecting rod at the centerline of cranking shaft to keep connecting rod without
moving as showing in the figure
• Start up jacking and observe jacking pressure and increase it gradually by 100 psi then check dial
indicator reading and make sure there isn't movement for connecting rod.if the reading become
constant ,stop jacking and this the correct reading
• Repeat above steps to get-out bearing clearance at point 5 & 6 & 7

Measure Mud Pump Eccentric Bearing
Measure backlash or gear clearance at point 8
• The Gear box backlash is the clearance or gap between the two-mating gear tooth.
• The backlash can be measured with dial gauge or lead wire. The Dial Gauge pointer is kept at Driven gear face and the drive
gear is locked. Then the driven gear is moved which shows the backlash value in the dial gauge.

lead wire
Measure crosshead bearing at connecting Rod Small End
• Use dial indicator and crowbar as in the figure ,push crosshead by crowbar to touch dial tib to
take all tolerance.
Measure crosshead slide bearing
• Insert long feeler paper completely from the front of crosshead and between slide bearing and
the top of crosshead to get out clearance reading for crosshead slide bearing as showing in the
figure

AHSM
Measure alignment or runout test for extension rods
• Put dial tib at extension rod and start runout extension rod by
moving pinion shaft slowly to get reading
