Place granite slabs for setting out in sequence, one by one
over the entire lobby & enusre finish level of all panels is in

slabs). When any mismatch in FFL is observed, remove such
panels & scrape off/apply mortar mix to make levels even.

Once mortar is leveled to slope or flat & modified matching
granite slab thickness as per requirement, remove one panel
at a time & apply cement slurry in 1(cement):2(water) & make
grooves with trowel at every 05 to 08 cm distance, adequately

with granite slab. Similary repeat the process for all granite
slab and complete the lobby.
For installing borders mark the location from wall surface in
already laid granite slabs 3"/4" as approved & cut the portion

pieces of same dimension, once again make grooves and apply
cement slurry. Then tamp with rubber hammer & finish to
level.
At junctions like door openings where there is level difference

Similarly staircase granite laying shall also be completed. Gap
5.2.18 at interface of riser & tread shall be filled with adequate -do- Supervisor
mortar to ensure no voids. Hollow sound must not be found
Once Riser & Tread laying is complete, start fixig skirting with
respect to plumb & alignment. First fix two end pieces in
alignment, followed by fixing of intermediate pieces. Use rich
cement mix for securing the skirting pieces.Skirting packing
5.2.19 shall be done with cement mortar of 1:4 ratio or tile adhesive -do- Supervisor
whichever is convenient as per site situation. Take care to
finish off the skirting packing & wall plaster above to match &
wipe off excess mortar. Skirting shall project equally
throughout the length of wall.
Care shall be taken to ensure that zero level exists in Treads. If
5.2.20 required outward slope of 01/02mm could be provided in -do- Site Er.
Treads, but reverse slope must not exist at any condition.
Offer inspection to QC Er. & obtain clearance for each floor
just prior to commencement of curing. He shall check hollow

5.3 cladding
Prerequisite

5.4 Work procedure
Granite slabs shall be cut as per approved pattern & design
(chamfer, half bull nose etc., Refer fig 5,6 & 7) and done with

Wall/planter box cladding stones shall be done with special
treatment on the rear side for enhanced bonding with

by spraying of 06mm downsize chips over Araldite as shown in
5.4.3 -do- Site Er.
fig 1 & leave it undisturbed for 48 hrs. Though this surface
treatment is preferred for both floor & wall, it is mandatory to
do this for wall cladding & for flooring it is up to site
management whether to provide or not.

Once granite pieces are ready, same shall be fixed in position


maintaining verticality & alignment between different granite
5.4.5 slabs, secured with rich cement mix as required maintaining a -do- Supervisor
gap of about half inch between substrate and granite, in order
to fill/pack with cement mortar slurry or tile adhesive.

After QC clearance, seal all the voids at boundary of granite
pieces with cement mortar of 1:6 ratio like 45 degree cut in
plastering to alignment, followed by prewetting & pouring of
5.4.7 cement mortar slurry of 1:5 ratio mixed with required amount -do- Supervisor
of water to bring required flow consistency. The mix shall be
agitated frequently & just prior to pouring so as to prevent
settlement of sand at bottom in the container which it is
stored.
Alternatively, tile adhesive or cement mortar paste could be
used instead of cement mortar slurry, depending on site
management decision. In this method temporary securing of
granite slabs in position with rich cement mix is not required.
5.4.8 Adhesive or cement mortar paste could be applied on rear -do- Supervisor
side, placed over substrage & malleted with rubber hammer.
But in this method few drawbacks exist. Like plumb, alignment
out of slabs after fixing, hollow sound etc., So method
mentioned in 5.4.7 is more appropriate
If method mentioned in 5.4.8 is followed, offer QC inspection
just prior to commencement of curing. QC Er. shall check
5.4.9 -do- Site Er., QC Er.
verticality, alignment of granite slabs with one another,
straightnes of 45 deg cuts, surface finish on polished edges,
unbroken
For plantercorners etc., groove is provided to seperate
boxes where
horizontal & vertical members, a tile piece of 2/3" in width

line & neat finish on grooves before proceeding with fixing of
horizontal member. Refer picture below.

As mentiond in earlier procedures, each & every granite piece
shall be slightly buffed at corners to avoid sharp edges & cut
to exact dimensions & in right angle wherever applicable.
5.6.3 -do- Supevisor
Special tools as shown in Fig 4 shall be used depending upon
type of finish adopted & as applicable. 06 layers of wet
polishing shall be done to all edges
Ledge wall granite coping shall be fixed with cement mortar of
1:6 ratio & cement slurry of 1:2 ratio as described in above
5.6.4 mentioned procedures or tile/stone adhesive could be used. -do- -do-
Care to be taken to see that no gap exist between wall dado &
ledge wall coping & level to be maintained.
For wash basin counter opening, do not use templates
provided by manufacturers as shape & size may differ from
template & real fitting. Use real sanitary wash basin fitting &
make a template at site itself. Similarly hole for sink
cock/basin mixer shall be made after finalization of sink cock
5.6.5 -do- PM, Site Er.

inappropriate size of spout pipe may result in inconvenience
to users, when waterflow is very close to granite edge. This
aspect must be considered during selection of sink cock for
wash basin.
For wash basin counter fixing, groove shall be formed in wall
dado upto 01" deep & width same as that of granite thickness.
5.6.6 Prior to groove cut outline shall be marked in dado with red -do- Supervisor
oxide. Care to be taken to ensure same level at two extreme
corners of groove

Based upon the customization by customers, flat list shall be

dado during handover stage. Width shall be 24" & bottom of
granite slab shall be provided with drip groove of 03x03 mm at
25mm from edge of platform. MS brackets painted in black Granite counter & coping

F Marble
5.8 Prerequisite & Surface preparartion
All measures as given in clause 5.1 shall be taken due care, Granite & Marble

5.9 Work procedure checklist
Procedure mentioned in 5.1.9, 5.1.10 & 5.2 shall be followed Granite & Marble

Place marble slabs for setting out in sequence, one by one checklist
over the entire lobby & enusre finish level of all panels is in
5.9.2 same level (as there may be difference in thickness of marble -do- Supervisor
slabs). When any mismatch in FFL is observed, remove such
panels & scrape off/apply mortar mix to make levels even.
Care to be taken while handling marble slabs, as they are
brittle in nature. Just before placing/setting & taking out , do
not remove the protective wrapping on the rear side of

marble completely. Instead protective wrapping shall be
removed at localised spots, thereby minimising the tendency
to break while handling. Refer Fig. 8

Once flooring is laid, joint between marble stones, broken
edges, cracks etc., shall be filled with suitable colored Resin

Before commencing polishing to marble floors, access shall be
blocked along periphery. Contamination with sand, dirt,
foreign materials must be avoided, because even a small sand
