Speech Masters Contest Mechanics and Criteria for Judging

MECHANICS and GUIDELINES

1. Each year level must choose a male or female representative.


2. Contestants must present their piece related to the theme: “ International year of
peace and trust” using recorded video, landscape and in MP4 video format.
3. Entries must have a clear resolution and make sure that the AUDIO is clear.
4. Attire should be formal and or any costume under the different countries of
United Nations.
5. The speech must be in English language. Notes may be used if it needs to be
presented.
6. The length of the presentation should be between 2 to 3 minutes.
7. Contestants must prepare their own speech (or with the help of year level
classmates/schoolmates), of which it must be substantially original.
8. Performance – or the manner in which the speaker, speaks to the camera and
relays its message the most natural, which does not look contrived, scripted or
stiff.
9. Production – the quality of the video including how smooth the transitions are,
and whether the editing compliments the flow of content.
10. Focus – Avoid extensive and sharp movements while filming. Video movement
should be smooth and transparent. Also, limit and/or avoid zooming and
animations.
11. Lighting – able to use and control light. Was the lighting applied in the video
(man-made or natural) properly used to enhance the visuals?
12. Background – does not contain copyrighted materials.
13. Audio – the audio/sound should be heard and the speech should be intelligible
and dynamically balanced. The sound in all shots should have the same volume.
14. Music – if music is added ensure that it is appropriate and engaging to the
listener. (Please be aware that you cannot use music without proof of permission
as you may infringe on the copyright rights of the publisher, the composer, the
performer, mixers, master, their heirs, et al.)

2021 (Friday).
CRITERIA FOR JUDGING

1. Content (40%)

a) Speech Development (20%) is the way the speaker puts ideas together so the
audience can understand them. The speech is structured around a purpose,
and this structure must include an opening, body, and conclusion. 

b) Speech Value (20%) justifies the act of speaking. The speaker has a


responsibility to say something meaningful and original to the speaker. The
listeners should feel the speaker has made a contribution to their thinking.
The ideas should be important ones, although this does not preclude a
humorous presentation of them. 

2. Delivery (30%)

a) Physical (10%) presentation of a speech carries part of the responsibility for


effective communication. Body language should support points through
gestures, expressions, and body positioning. 

b) Voice (10%) is the sound that carries the message. It should be flexible,
moving from one pitch level to another for emphasis and should have a
variety of rate and volume. 

c) Manner (10%) the speaker should speak with enthusiasm and assurance,
showing interest in the audience and confidence in their reactions. 

2. Production (30%)

a) Videography/Audio includes impact, creativity, technical excellence,


composition, lighting, style, color, sound, and music. The images, sound and
content should provide variety, interesting angles, imagination, and properly
convey the message being told. Media enhances overall video production.
