SPECIFICATION OF THE PROJECT

Most widely known works in building construction

1.Earth work

1.1Site clearance
 Removal of bushes & vegetation
 Removal of bushes & vegetation
 Excavation & Get out Removal of top soil
 Excavation in ordinary soil

1.2 Pit excavation

Pit shall be measured by adding 50mm to each side of the dimension giving the surface area of the
volume to be excavated. The excavated depth is based on the depth of structure specified on the drawing.

1.3 Bulk excavation

The bulk excavation shall mean the excavation next to site clearance up to a depth of 2.0-3.5m layer soil
as specified on the drawing. Each depth is limited due to depth of footing from ground level.

1.5 Fill
Fill to excavations or to make up level shall be made in suitable material approved by the Engineer and
capable of being compacted. Fill shall be placed in successive stages of not exceeding 20cm and watered
and compacted to approval by the Engineer. Fill shall be measured as equal to the net volume of void to
be filled and shall be understood as including the stockpiling and haulage of material from location of fill.
Classification of fill

 Backfill to excavation
 Selected excavated fill
 Selected borrowed fill

1.6 Cart away

All unsuitable and surplus suitable material arising from excavations shall be disposed. Disposal shall be
understood to include stock piling, loading, transporting, dumping and wheel spreading at tip.

2.Concrete work
 Footing
 Grade beam
 Ground slab
For all of the above use similar description
Grade of concrete C-25
Mix ratio 1:2:3

68
2.1 Lean concrete
Grade C-5

mix ratio 1:4:8

thickness 5cm

location: under footing pad

3 Stone work
3.1Foundatio wall

3.2 Hard core

Hard core shall be sound approved stone of specified finishing thickness and placed as directed
by the Engineer and finished blinded with 20mm crushed aggregate.

B superstructure
1 Concrete work

 Column
 Floor beam
 Tie beam
 Floor slab
 Roof slab

For all concrete work above similar description can be used

 Grade of concrete C-25

 Mix ratio of concrete

2.Masonary work
Above grade wall shall mean masonry above ground floor.

Buried wall shall mean masonry in contact with earth on both faces.

Tapering wall shall mean wall built at specified inclination from the vertical.

2.1Brick masonry

Bricks shall be selected for their consistency in dimensions, shapes, angles and strength.

69
2.2 Stone masonry
Stone wall concealed from view or to be left for further finish shall be built in stone sizes of not less than
300mm high per course and 400mm wide per stone.

2.3 Concrete block masonry

Blocks shall be uniform in texture, shape, size, with sharp arises and free from any cracks or defects. It
shall be produced under shed on a suitable smooth floor.

3. ROOF WORK
 Type of roofing
 Brand
 Gauge or thickness

Supply and construct G-28 well galvanized corrugation sheet of iron of Akaki brand.

4.Floor Finish
Types of floor finishing material

 PVC
 Ceramics
Size of material
Grade of mortar 1:4

5.Plastering
 Thickness of plaster 25mm
 Numbers of coats
 Grade of mortar 1:3
 Location of plaster

Applying three coats of cement mortar plastering in 1:3 ratio internal wall and ceiling.

6.Ceiling
7.Skirting
Terrazzo tile skirting

2cm thick and 10cm high skirt

Grade of mortar 1:4

70
8.Form work
Formwork shall mean temporary support construction for in-situ concrete, designed and
constructed in timber or metal and capable of withstanding the live and dead loads imposed on
it and fully preventing leakage of concrete.

9. Glazing
Glazing beads shall be temporarily fixed to doors, windows and curtain walls. Glass must be clear.

CONCLUSION
The project is to analyze the given drawing, prepare take of sheet, bill of quantity and in addition, we
have improved our understanding during the analysis. We have done take off sheet for every
component of the G+2 residential building project. That means take off sheet for concrete works for sub
structure and supper structure, take off sheet for reinforcement bars, masonry works, hard core, site
clearance and earth works.

After we have finished take off preparation, we have computed unit rate analysis for each component of
the building. Finally, we computed their bill of quantity and obtain the total cost the project.

During the analysis, problems we have faced are: in some parts of drawing dimension are not given
clearly, the given dimensions contradict each other in some parts section and elevation drawing.
