Unwavering Faith

romans 4:18

Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping—believing that he would become the
father of many nations. For God had said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!”

Unwarering- Merriam Webster

continuing in a strong and steady way : constant, steadfast her unwavering faith/support an unwavering
commitment to justice.

Unwavering faith-

Unwavering Faith means that you trust God with your life more than you trust yourself. It means that
you trust his timing even when you're running out of patience. It means that you trust his decisions even
if you don't like the outcome.

Hebrews 11:1
Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we
cannot see.

And when you read verse 19 it says:

And Abraham’s faith did not weaken, even though, at about 100 years of age, he figured his body was as
good as dead—and so was Sarah’s womb.

So short backstory lang

(insert story of Abraham and sarah)

Genesis 15:2-3
But Abram replied, “O Sovereign Lord, what good are all your blessings when I don’t even have a son?
Since you’ve given me no children, Eliezer of Damascus, a servant in my household, will inherit all my
wealth. 3 You have given me no descendants of my own, so one of my servants will be my heir.”
In Human’s perspective its impossible gyud since Sarah that time was 90 at that time when she gave
birth to her son but

In God’s perspective NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE

(igni imong self nothing is impossible)

Let us know how his faith never wavered or what produces these kind of faith by 3 point:

Unwavering faith produces:

1. HOPE

Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping—believing that he would become the
father of many nations. For God had said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!”

merriam dictionary:

Hope is an optimistic attitude of mind based on an expectation or desire

Hope speaks of the future

Abraham did not think about his present but his future in the Lord, how he give glory to the Lord and
God’s promises

Psalms 119:49
Remember your promise to me; it is my only hope.

In spite of what struggles Abraham and his wife Sarah encountered, his faith in the Lord did not lessen.
And just like Abraham, whenever you feel lost and hopeless, think that even God gave Abraham and
Sarah their own son despite their old age, God made that possible

How much more your problems? Its so small to our Big God to handle
not every battle is for you to fight
Sometimes, our Lord Father fights our battle that we couldn’t handle
when He fights with us, it would surely be victorious because He is victorious Himself.

Romans 8:31
What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?

Jeremiah 20:11
But the LORD is with me like a mighty warrior

When you hope it also produces:

a. Patience
Romans 8:25

But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.

Abraham waited for 25 years for God’s promise to be fulfilled. God didn’t give him the time and date
when these promises will happen but still Abraham kept believing that one day God will fulfill His
promises, he waited patiently while doing the work for the Lord.

He knew that even for that long time, God never change.

Numbers 23:19
God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he
speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?

When you hope, you also learn to be patient

sometimes God doesn’t provide our needs right away because He wanted to change something in us
maybe our character. He disciplines us by using the concept of patience.

Have you heard about the Marshmallow concept?

God can simply provide what we pray but he is our Father and just like any Father, He teaches us that
we need to work for it and not all the time we get what we want right away.

Imagine Abraham waited 25 years

Maybe you’re in the season of waiting and sometimes you felt like God never listens or He forgot you
but NO, He know you and He listens even the deepest part of your heart He knows it.

“He wanted to change something in you or He already know what will happen if He will provide it for
you, so He give much better instead because what you think is better doesn’t mean it’s best in God’s
plans for you”

Have Faith, if it happened to Abraham, it will happen to you!

2. OBEDIENCE
When God instructed Abraham to leave his native country, he didn’t hesitant to obey God’s command.
Genesis 12:4
So Abram went, as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old
when he departed from Haran.

If Abraham doesn’t have faith in God, what would his reaction? Would he still obey God?

Just like that if we won’t have faith in God , it would be hard for us to listen to His voice among other
voices in this world.

When you have faith in God, you also obey His word because Faith without action is powerless.
(mura ra na syag mag cge mog I love mama ug papa kay nay pangayoon pero gisugoon bitaw manghugas
ug plato pabungolbungol dayon, kinsa manang di gapanghugas ug plato dira?)

Joking aside,
Obedience is rooted from a stronger faith and that’s how Abraham acquired that unwavering faith.

Deuteronomy 5:33
Walk in obedience to all that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper
and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.

1 King 11:38
If you do whatever I command you and walk in obedience to me and do what is right in my eyes by
obeying my decrees and commands, as David my servant did, I will be with you. I will build you a dynasty
as enduring as the one I built for David and will give Israel to you.

When you obey it also produces:

a. PERSEVEARANCE

Timothy 6:11
But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a
godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.

James 1:4
Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Not only did God said this to Timothy but also to us as a reminder that in pursuing righteousness
through following Jesus is how we can truly find hope.

Perseverance is a persistence in doing something despite difficulty because obey the Lord.

Abraham never loses hope even when there’s no reason for hope, he kept doing what God told him
to do because he believes in God and he knows Him more than he knows himself, he knows God
never fails.

Joshua 21:45
Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to Israel failed; everyone was fulfilled.

firmly establishes this truth: God keeps his Word. Not one of God's good promises has ever failed,
not before the time of Joshua, or Abraham, not after, and not now.
3. Joy

Romans 5:2
Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now
stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.

God is glorified when we repent of sin, does that give me joy?

It doesn’t mean its gonna make me happy
Sometimes some of the stuff God asks you to do doesn’t make you happy
But it gives you joy

“Joy is a deeper feeling inside your heart”

“Joy is spiritual buoyancy; it means you can’t sink”

it’s like beach ball does when you try to push it underwater it plops back up.

“And that’s how Abraham endured despite trials he remained Joyful”

Just like Abraham whose faith has given him the strength which also gave joy while enduring trials.
Romans 5:3-4
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop
endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident
hope of salvation.

it may be hard to understand how can you rejoice while facing trials but consider it a great joy
because God teaches you to rely on Him and teaches us endurance.

Reasons to rejoice in trials:

1. Refines and reveals your faith 1 Peter 1:7

Growth comes through pain. God does not rejoice in our pain but He knows the benefit
outweighs the pain.
2. Results in eternal reward Romans 8:16-17
As we suffer with Him, we may also be glorified with Him
3. Results in God’s continual deliverance
He will rescue us from any trials.
4. Recognizes our supreme privilege 1 Peter 1:10-12
Everything that happened in the Bible is for you to know who God is, nothing is accident in the
Lord.

James 1:2-3
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you
know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
In conclusion:
Romans 4:20-22
Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he
brought glory to God. He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises. And because
of Abraham’s faith, God counted him as righteous.

As Abraham had an unwavered faith and so do we if we put our hope in the Lord.
