Module 3: Argumentative Essay

A mother at 18, no job and had to stop studying; She can still enjoy life, but she
is unable to do so without her daughter. These are the typical scenarios teenage
mothers experience nowadays.  Oxford dictionary defines teenage pregnancy as “occurring
between thirteen and nineteen years of age.” According to The Borgen Project, a nonprofit
American organization that advocates for Newborn, Child and Mother Survival, offering sex
education as a subject in junior high school is a good idea. The goal of sex education is to
educate young people about issues such as sex, sexuality, and bodily development. As a result
of my further research, I confidently believe that Sex Education must be enforced here in the
Philippines so that we have prior knowledge to help in reducing the rising of teenage pregnancy.
The main reason for my stand is for the sake of all teenagers, sex education is the key to
opening their minds at such a young age to know the consequences of their actions. Each of us
must acknowledge the value of being well-informed with the help of sex edcuation. Researchers
from the University of Washington found that adolescents who receive comprehensive sex
education are significantly less likely to become pregnant than adolescents who receive
abstinence-only-until-marriage or no formal sex education. On top of that, 9 percent of teens
receive no sex education at all, particularly those in rural or poor areas.

On the other hand, Gao (2018) believes that students should not learn about it while still
in school. When students reach adulthood, they should be taught about sex and pregnancy.
Because teenagers rarely engage in sexual activity, sex education at this age is ineffective.
In other countries like the Netherland, researchers approved that sex education is
effective. Netherlands suggest that Sex Education is highly effective according to the students
who receive this education. The Dutch approach to sexuality education appears to be extremely
effective, according to data.  School-based sex education plays a vital role in the sexual health
and well-being of young people. Little is known, however, about the effectiveness of efforts
beyond pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease prevention. The authors conducted a
systematic literature review of three decades of research on school-based programs to find
evidence for the effectiveness of comprehensive sex education. Review of the literature of the
past three decades provides strong support for comprehensive sex education across a range of
topics and grade levels. Results provide evidence for the effectiveness of approaches that
address a broad definition of sexual health and take positive, affirming, inclusive approaches to
human sexuality. Findings strengthen justification for the widespread adoption of the National
Sex
Therefore, I truly believe that the sex education can solve the rising cases of teenage
pregnancy because it can spread awareness to teenagers and reduce adolescent pregnancy by
exposing teenagers to the realities of adulthood at a young age. In my opinion, teenage
pregnancy will continue to rise in our country if we do not take immediate action. We must
acknowledge everyone to be safe and not sensitive with this type of topic because it will help
solve the rising cases of teenage pregnancy over time. Let us all join hands and support the
efforts of the government to resolve the rising cases of teenage pregnancy. By adding sex
education in the curriculum, we can promise a brighter tomorrow for the next generations.
