Sucesos de las Islas Filipinas - were key to the formation of a national identity? How? (Watch the
lecture from 41:55 - 42:55.)
 His Annotation of Morga proved that Filipinos had unique civilized culture even before the
Spanish colonizers came. The knowledge of the past will help to better understand and deal
with the present or future. In Noli Me Tangere, he illustrated the present condition of the
Philippines during the Spanish colonization. Finally, in El Filibusterismo, he opened the minds
of the Filipinos on how the future of the Philippines should be. These contributed a lot to
molding the national identity of the Filipinos.
