Teaching Philosophy
I believe that teaching Mathematics is more than teaching how to plug and chug to arrive at an answer. Teaching
Mathematics is teaching students to understand what the problem is asking of you, how to use previous knowledge and
how to make connections between that knowledge and the knowledge to be obtained. My goal as an educator is for my
students to be able to relate to what I am teaching and to help the students who struggle begin to find their own passion
for mathematics. I have had personal experience of what it means to struggle, and a student should always be given a
chance to look at material in different perspectives. I firmly believe that all students are able to learn mathematics, and
that they are able to relate to the concepts in their own way. It is my job as the teacher to help them create such
connections through real-life examples in order for every student to explore mathematics to find their own “ahh-ha,”
moment.
