System Notes

System Notes
This section contains a list of system notes for FTTP ONT as related to Release 8.7.5.1.
• Adtran products with part numbers TA374 (P/N 1287703G1), TA324 (P/N 1287735G3),
and TA334 (P/N 1287736G3) may require the AOE XML configuration template to be
modified to contain the correct primary and secondary UDP CallAgent port before SIP
and MGCP protocols will operate correctly. (6ONTSR72-40A, March 2013) (CN-14577)
• ACP products from iPhotonix may require the AOE XML configuration template to be
modified to contain the correct primary and secondary UDP CallAgent port before SIP
and MGCP protocols will operate correctly. (6ONTSR72-40A, March 2013) (CN-14577)
• AOE XML configuration template for part numbers TA374 (P/N 1287703G1), TA324
(P/N 1287735G3), and TA334 (P/N 1287736G3) should be modified to use 40 for jitter and
180 for max jitter. (6ONTSR72-40A, March 2013) (CN-14953)
• Adtran FTTP ONTs assert POTS battery on the FXS interfaces during reboot to eliminate
issues seen with alarm systems tripping during reboot. Battery holdover duration is 1
minute. (6ONTSR72-40B, April 2013)
• ONTs with part number prefix 11877xx cannot support fair bandwidth sharing for
services with the same CoS level assigned to the same Ethernet UNI of an ONT.
(6ONTSR73-40A, June 2013) (CN-11823)
• Downloading the wrong image to the TA324 (P/N 1287735G3) will cause the LOS LED to
be left in a flashing state. The ONT is fully functional and operation is not impaired.
Downloading the correct image will clear the flashing LED. Flashing the LOS LED is an
indication of an error condition but does not indicate that signal from the OLT is missing.
(6ONTSR73-40A, June 2013) (CN-15486)
• A new revision SLIC component has been introduced to Adtran ONT hardware. ONT
units that ship with the new SLIC component will not be able to downgrade below sw
version G03.01.007 for ONT 7.3 and G02.003 for ONT 7.2. Please see PCNs 71287712G1-
23A and 71287701G1-23C for part number and hardware revision information of the
ONTs that are affected by this change. (6ONTSR73-40A, June 2013)
• When configuring SIP service over OMCI, the default for hookflash mode has changed
from interpreted to network. (6ONTSR7403-40A, October 2013) (CN-20125)
• TA334 (P/N 1287736G3) RF output is enabled by default for 5 minutes after the ONT
reboots even when the “interface rf-video” is provisioned to OOS or “shutdown” on the
GPON OLT. (6ONTSR801-40A, January 2014) (CN-15487)
• An MLT test will cause a 2-second audio interruption for off hook calls. MLT test will not
drop the ongoing call. (6ONTSR801-40A, January 2014) (CN-21133)
• Some analog voice-band Medical Data Devices are not compatible with VoIP services.
Contact the vendor of the Medical Data Device to determine the compatibility with VoIP
transport services. (6ONTSR83-40A, May 2014) (CN-23602)
• The following discontinued first generation ONTs listed below may require several retries
to upgrade software due to a necessary reboot to recover from an optical problem that can
cause the ONT to fail.
o TA351 (P/N 1187701G1)
o TA352 (P/N 1187702G1)
o TA361 (P/N 1187711G1)

6ONTSR8751-40A 7
Fiber to the Premises Optical Network Terminal Release 8.7.5.1 Release Notes

o TA362R (P/N 1187715G1)

(6ONTSR85-40A, September 2014) (CN-26078)
• Pulse Dialing is supported for pulse rates from 8 pps to 11 pps. Pulse rates higher than 11
pps may experience degraded pulse detection reliability. (6ONTSR8501-40A, September
2014) (CN-24982)
• Ringing start and stop may be delayed as much as 100 ms from the application of the
associated ring/no-ring signaling bits at the DS1 interface of the TA5000 Voice Gateway
AM. (6ONTSR8501-40A, September 2014) (CN-24975)
• If the 2nd Gen TA300 series ONTs are provisioned for multiple user, a speed test
performed by a single user may temporarily reduce the bandwidth available to another
user provisioned on the same ONT. This temporary reduction of performance is observed
only if multiple users run simultaneous speed tests from the same ONT. (6ONTSR8503-
40A, November 2014) (CN-26935)
• The TA311 (P/N 1287565G1) and TA324RG (P/N 1287562G1) must be rebooted twice
after upgrading to H70.00.0008.K3 in order to resolve voice issues. One reboot occurs
automatically after the upgrade but a 2nd reboot is required. The 2nd reboot is a
manual operation in the CLI, web GUI, or AOE for each ONT. (6ONTSR871-40A, March
2015) (CN-28032)
• Ground start configuration is supported by Adtran OLTs but ONTs that do not support
ground start will reject the setting. (6ONTSR871-40A, March 2015) (CN-27148)
• 508VP (P/N 1179870F1) only supports customer traffic that is tagged. (6ONTSR871-40A,
March 2015) (CN-29680)
• 508VP (P/N 1179870F1) is only supported when paired with the 1187502F2, 1187503F1,
and 1187503F2 OLTs. (6ONTSR871-40A, March 2015)
• When changing from OMCI voice configuration mode to File Transfer voice configuration
mode, it is necessary to reboot an ONT to insure that the active configuration matches the
content of the config file being transferred to the ONT. (6ONTSR872-40A, March 2015)
(CN-28795)
• The 401 (P/N 1287786F1) and 411 (P/N 1287787F1) ONTs are being introduced with a
limited feature set in this release. Please refer to ADTRAN technical support for details of
supported scope. (6ONTSR872-40A, March 2015)
• On the 401 (P/N 1287786F1) and 411 (P/N 1287787F1) ONTs, existing services may be
disturbed when adding and deleting the EVC maps of other services. (6ONTSR872-40A,
March 2015) (CN-27852)
• If a 401 ONT (P/N 1287786F1) running 9.0.2 firmware needs to be downgraded to an older
release (8.7.x and prior), the ONT must first be downgraded to 8.7.4.2 to prevent the
corruption of the part number and CLEI. The corruption of the part number will prevent
the ONT from being managed by AOE. (6ONTSR8742-40A, March 2016) (CN-35573)
• On the 411 (P/N 1287787F1), a reboot of the ONT is recommended after changing the
voice signaling protocol from one value to another value (for example, FXS signaling to
SIP). (6ONTSR875-40A, April 2016) (CN-33355)
• When upgrading the 401 (P/N 1287786F1) ONT from a software version prior to 8.7.2.1,
a two-step approach is required. First, upgrade to 8.7.2.1 (including the boot code).
Second, upgrade to the desired version (or greater than LOML.D0137). (6ONTSR875-40A,
April 2016) (CN-30894)
• The 411 (P/N 1287787F1) do not support a variation of call transfer where the transferor
is the same ONT which places the first outbound call. (6ONTSR875-40A, April 2016) (CN-
35229)

Errata

Errata
This section contains a list of errata for FTTP ONT as related to Release 8.7.5.1.
• Whole-Home DVR IPTV applications will not work when deployed against a 1st Gen
GPON ONT. Due to the ONT not filtering upstream multicast traffic related to
communications between STBs and a Whole-Home DVR, this application will not
perform as expected when deployed against a 1st Generation GPON ONT. This limitation
only impacts Whole Home DVR/STB where a single DVR is used to stream content to
other STBs within the home. (July 2011)
• When deployed against the Metaswitch, Call Waiting with Caller ID will not function
correctly on the TA372 (P/N 1287722G1) and TA372E (P/N 1287723G1). The issue can be
resolved by switching to 900  impedance on the POTS interface. (July 2011)
• Jumbo frames not supported on the following first generation ONTs. The 11877xx ONTs
do not pass Ethernet frame sizes over 1524 bytes.
o TA351 (P/N 1187701G1)
o TA352 (P/N 1187702G1)
o TA361 (P/N 1187711G1)
o TA362 (P/N 1187712G1)
o TA362S (P/N 1187712G2)
o TA362R (P/N 1187715G1)
(July 2011)
• Hairpin T.38 Calls Fail on 2nd Gen FTTP ONTs. When attempting to place a T.38 call
between the two voice ports on the TA354E (P/N 1287704G1), the call will fail and not
complete. (July 2011)
• Intermittent FAX throughput performance degradation with SIP. When attempting a FAX
over an ONT configured for SIP voice, throughput for faxes sent via T30 or T.38 may be
reduced to approximately 9400 bps. The faxes are sent and received correctly. This is an
isolated problem with SIP only. (July 2011)
• Data corruption with AES enabled. There is a bug in the 11877xx GPON ONTs that causes
data loss if the last octet in the downstream frame is part of a real data packet
transmission. There is no work-around for this bug. Customers will need to disable AES
(off is the default value) for any Total Access ONTs with part numbers matching 11877xx.
(July 2011)
• Connecting a PWE service to the ONT from more than one VG or PWE AM is not
supported. Attempting to do so will interrupt the existing PWE services on the ONT when
the connection to the second AM is provisioned. (6ONTA310SA-40A, May 2012) (CN-
4655)
• Setting the ONT service state to OOS-UA does not disable services on all interfaces of the
ONT. For services to be disabled the interface service state should be set to OOS-UA.
(6ONTA310SA-40A, May 2012) (CN-4981)
• Dial pulse digit reception failures with break settings of 50%, 60%, 70%, and 80% on the
TA324 (P/N 1287735G3), TA334 (P/N 1287736G3), and TA374 (P/N 1287703G1).
(6ONTSR72-40A, March 2013)
• On the TA324 (P/N 1287735G3), TA324E (P/N 1287737F3), TA334 (P/N 1287736G3), and
TA374 (P/N 1287703G1), intermittent restarts when ranging takes too long. (6ONTSR72-
40A, March 2013)

AOE Auto-Upgrade Process

The ONT Auto-Upgrade feature is used to create a task that will check all ONTs in a specific
location. Any discovered ONTs that do not match firmware version in the selected AUC file
will be upgraded. In addition, the task listens for an ONT activation trap that will signal AOE
to perform the steps necessary to upgrade a newly activated ONT.
The requirements for performing an ONT Auto-Upgrade are as follows:
• AOE6.0 or higher
• The AOE server must be configured as a trap host on the Total Access 5000.
• A Total Access 5000 shelf running System Release 6.3.1 or later and containing the
following modules:

Upgrade firmware for AE or GPON ONT

NOTE
For the purpose of the following examples, <1@shelf/slot/port> equals
1@1/17/1.

• To upgrade a single ONT on port 1 (for GPON, use “.GPON” instead of “.gig”):
ChassisID#force remote‐download 1@1/17/1.gig application
• To upgrade ONTs on the GPON OLT (see note below regarding upgrades on OLT):
ChassisID#force remote‐download @1/17 application
• To verify upgrade status of all ONTs:
ChassisID#show remote‐devices @1/17

NOTE
For Active Ethernet OLT software versions prior to SR 6.0, the maximum
number of queued AE ONT downloads that can be supported at a given time
is four (4) per AE OLT. Exceeding this number may result in failed ONT
downloads and loss of communication with one or more ONTs. Recovering
from this condition could require rebooting the OLT card. The recommended
procedure is to use the command 'force remote-download
1@<shelf/slot/port> application' to queue up to 4 simultaneous downloads
per OLT, and then wait until those downloads complete before starting more
ONT downloads on that OLT. These limitations do not apply to AE OLT
software versions SR 6.0 and later.
