Adolescence is one of the hardest phase of life. Difficult challenges and changes are faced during
this tough times. Relationships within other people are starting to sprout and the feeling of
independence away from the family is being felt. Teens are starting to develop somewhat like romantic
connection towards other people whether to the same or opposite sex. Most of the teens are feeling
isolated and they start to crave for a relationship that is beyond friendship. Others might deny but I
think that most of us experienced having a crush.

We have two types of crushes which are the identity crush and the romantic crush. When you
have a crush that makes you say to yourself that you aspire to be like him/her, then probably he/she is
just an identity crush. An identity crush is when a child finds someone he/she admires and wants to be
like. When you have someone you’re attracted to because you find him/her attracted and he/she has
the qualities of your ideal boyfriend/girlfriend, then probably that person is your romantic crush.

It is normal for teens to long for somebody’s affection and love. This is most of the reasons why a
teen wants a girlfriend or boyfriend. I admit, I also used the same reason for my first relationship. It is
just kind of great feeling to have someone to hold on to, to share your thoughts with, and to spend fun
time with. But as I the relationship goes further, I realized that all I was just feeling was puppy love. A
weak, unreliable, fragile, uncertain kind of love. Truth be told by the elders, you can never find a true
love when you’re young. Fighting for a relationship when you’re still young and doubtful about it is
useless. Coping with a heartbreak was not easy at all. It took me months of recovery after all the
emotional episodes I went through but I survived it though.

Adolescence stage is where most of the minds of the teens are filled with curiosity especially
when sex is talked about. Many of the teens nowadays already practice premarital sex which is a very
liberated thing to do. Filipinos are known to be very conservative and the plan to implement sex
education among schools went through a lot of debates. Because of the rise of the teenage
pregnancies recorded here in the Philippines, I think that it is just right to implement sex education for
us to gain knowledge about sex and the safety measures that should be observed while doing the
intercourse (for those who are already engaged in those kind of activities).
