Activity 1.1 Critical Questions: Reflect and write your answer to the following questions

1.Why is one’s philosophy of education said to be one’s “window” to the world or

“compass” in life?

• Education is a method, a path, a door, a window, or a compass that leads to a better

life. It allows you to earn more money, allowing you to live in a nicer neighborhood, own a
fancier home, and drive a nicer car. Higher education allows people to make significant
changes in their life.

2.What are the consequences of the absence of a teacher’s lack of a clear philosophy
of education?

• As a result of a teacher's absence of a distinct educational philosophy, students may not

have enough information to benefit from the teacher. Furthermore, the pupils will be treated
unfairly because they will receive a limited and specialized education. The teacher may or
may not be able to fully explain or discuss the lesson/topic.

3. Does this education philosophy of yours make a difference in your life? Why?

•Realistic happiness based on essence can only be achieved if you prefer a mature or
philosophical way of life. Knowing us and understanding that fulfilling our childhood and
adolescent dreams is fundamental is to be happy. The key to stability and health.
Activity 1.2 Identification: Write the correct answer before each number.

Essentialism 1. It is an educational philosophy whose adherents believe that children

should learn the traditional basic subjects thoroughly. In this philosophical school of thought,
the aim is to instill students with the "essentials" of academic knowledge, enacting a back-to-
basics approach.

Progressivism 2. It is an educational movement started by John Dewey that says that

students learn through their own experiences. Progressivism revolves around the students'
needs, including teaching students to be good citizens as well as good learners, a concept
known as focusing on the whole child.

Buddhism 3. One of the Eastern Philosophies is where the primary role of a teacher is
to deliver classroom instruction that helps students learn. In order to accomplish this,
teachers must prepare effective lessons, grade student work and offer feedback, manage
classroom materials, productively navigate the curriculum, and collaborate with other staff.

Existentialism 4. A philosophy that emphasizes individual existence, freedom and

choice. It is the view that humans define their own meaning in life, and try to make rational
decisions despite existing in an irrational universe.

John Dewey 5. The father of Progressive education. He was the most eloquent and
arguably most influential figure.

Personal Teaching Philosophy 6. It is an essential and active element of a teacher and

also a self- reflective statement of your beliefs about teaching.

education had the responsibility to mold human beings into a cohesive and compassionate
society.

Perennialsm 8. It was originally religious in nature, developed first by Thomas

Aquinas in the thirteenth century in his work De Magistro (On the Teacher).

Christian Philosophy 9. It encompasses every aspect of a student's experience, from

kindergarten through postgraduate degree programs. Learning and understanding through the
lens of the Bible at a Christian school gives students of all ages the opportunity to stay true
to their spiritual values while receiving a high-quality education in preparation for the future.

Philosophy 10. The study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality and
existence, especially when considered as an academic discipline.
Activity 1.3. Essay: Formulate your personal philosophy of education. Do it well for this
will form part of your teaching portfolio which you will bring along with you when you
apply for a teaching job. Write it down here.

As a future educator, I know that all students have this ability in different aspects. So
when I become a full -fledged teacher, I want them to become good at things where they are
good at. I will boost their confidence when it comes to things they are not confident in or
they don't trust their selves. As I am their teacher, I should just be their grid when they have
a problem even with the lesson or personal problem, as their second parent I know that is
included in my work. I believe a teacher is the most powerful of role models. I am ever
aware of the awesome obligation I have to “walk my talk” with my students. If I ask them to
live their values and beliefs, I must do the same. I expect the best of myself and others and,
therefore, I usually get the best. I try to treat all people with dignity and respect, and I expect
my students to do so also. I aim to bring an open mind, a positive attitude, and high
expectations to the classroom each day. I believe that I owe it to my students, as well as the
community, to bring consistency, diligence, and warmth to my job in the hope that I can
ultimately inspire and encourage such traits in the children as well.
