Texts in digital format have different designs called Typeface, often called as fonts. It
consists of alphabets, numbers and special characters set.

Activity 1.3: Guess the Text

Explain each image if did or did not follow the design principles and elements of texts.
Task 1.3 Explanation

1. This is supposed to be a designed/layout accordingly towards a graduation and it did not

provide justice. Too much fonts is used and it should be formal or even slightly formal but
instead the graphic artist used funky fonts that made it looked like a children’s party.

2. I can say the graphic artist did okay in this one. Great capitalization of an
important/inspiring word. From what I saw through this work is that it successfully incite an
energy that motivates the reader with using easy to read fonts, good usage of space and
using highlights wisely.
3. This graphic art succeeds following the right design principles and elements of texts. The
word ‘music’ is highlighted which is a good move of the graphic artist while lessening the
transparency of the other words making it the words in the background are supporting the
word music while separating the important information making it easier for the reader to
notice it.

Activity 2.2: Types of Visual Information
Interpret the image from the left using the space provided in the right.
Task 2.2 Types of Visual Information
Type and image sample Interpretation
Facial Expression: We tend to analyze emotions and
actions of people by reading facial and eye expressions. The image is portraying about a
woman listening to his boss or some
senior colleges about something
important but with the woman facial
expression it has the possibility that
she is in love with the man who is
talking with her it is also a possibility
that the woman is annoyed with the
man like she is thinking something like
“you think you know more than me
huh!?

Body Language: Postures and gestures can mean more
than words. We predict people’s motives and emotions by
reading body language.
The image is showing a man looking at
the time on his watch which is
portraying he is conscious about the
time having the possibility he is
waiting for someone or something or
he will be leaving soon from the place
he is in.

Color: Most of us give meaning to colors based on
preferences, culture, experiences and human psychology.
We might think that color blue is a masculine color and

bright color which is somewhat
yellow/golden because of its bright
color it portrays happiness and joy
with this single image.

Environment: We observe the environment we see and
give interpretations of the situation of the people in the
environment.

The image is interpreting death,

sadness, being forgotten. Having the
big cross from the background and
stacked concrete with some letterings
on it I can conclude that the photo is
taken from a cemetery giving it a vibe
of sadness.

Symbols: Hand gestures, icon, brand logos, landmarks,
emoji are some of the symbols that we interpret every day.

Crow is one of the many that

symbolizes death but crows are also
symbolized fearlessness, cleverness,
intelligence and mystery. But from
what I mostly encountered from
movies and other graphic art, crows
are often used to symbolize death.

We can produce good visual media by understanding the different Visual Design
Principles and Elements.
Design Elements is the use of colors, space, texture, and other components in an
artistic representation.
Sample Image Element
Space. Using the canvas, you can use
some spaces to creatively produce stunning
and clever designs. Use spaces to make a
direct message since it creates focus to
other elements making it stand out.

Lines. Use lines to guide the viewer’s focal

point and separate objects in your design.
Use straight lines for order and neatness,
wavy lines for more movement, and zig-
zagged lines for tension or excitement.

Size. Use different sizes of your objects in

your design to show the relative importance
of objects and information.

Pattern. Designs with repeating objects

like lines and shapes forming patterns can
be aesthetically appealing giving a sense
of order to a design. Repetition is a crucial
element in branding design for consistency.
Texture. Textures give designs a sense of
realistic effects. It can add tactility and
depth. However, use this technique in
moderation as it may overwhelm your
design.

Colors. Different color sets the mood and

tone of your designs. Color have
psychological impact to us. It is very
important to understand the different
meanings of each common colors according
to human perception.

Activity 2.3: Interpret the Ads

Explain each image if did or did not execute the visual design elements properly.
Task 2.3 Design Elements
Image Explanation
1. From a graphic artist perspective this
image did execute the visual design
elements properly. Using minimal
design creating more space for the
viewer to focus on the product which is
the car and with proper choice of fonts
making it easier for customers to read
but in a business perspective this is not
that appealing to someone, it lacks the
persuasiveness for someone to like the
product.
2. This indeed succeeds executing visual
design. Applying the size design
element unto the product and the font
making it for the burger to be more
100% beefy while using the proper
spacing giving it a “WOW” impression.

3. This is indeed a creative graphic

design. From what I observe the
product is painted like a jaguar skin
wherein the graphic artist used this to
look like it is supposed to be
camouflage in the poster but it still
succeeds executing Visual Design
Principles and Elements. Properly
using the lines so the product will still
be visible with all the texture and the
similarity of the color the image has.
4. Looking only from this image, you won’t
directly guess that this image is
advertising a coffee especially if you
are not familiar with the brand because
of the clock covering the coffee beans
which are in the background. It would
be fine if the graphic designer used a
coffee in a mug instead of the clock
and also using a clock in advertising a
coffee is not that a good idea especially
in a steady poster. I conclude that this
image did not successfully used the
proper Visual Design Principles and
Elements.

All images from this table were drawn by Jay Michael A. Calipusan adapted from different ads to fit this activity.

Title: The Kind Woodcutter and the Rescued Eagle
Message of the Video: Kindness is always remembered. We should always help others selflessly.
Date: 1/4/2022

Script:
There lived a kind woodcutter in a village. He once freed an eagle from a trap. One day he went to the hills
to cut trees for wood. The hill was steep, so the woodcutter could not come down and needed help. Upset,
he sat down on the rock and waited for some help. Suddenly, an eagle flew down close to him and took
away his hat. The woodcutter was angry and he started chasing the bird. After some time, he realized he
has found the way down the hill. It then occurred to him that the bird was the same eagle he had once
rescued. He now understood why the eagle flew away with his hat. He thanked the eagle for its brilliant
idea and said, "You took away my hat so that I can follow you and reach here. You are my true friend.
Thank you!"
