13. Course Description: Practice using English for social communication and
giving oral presentation on engineering-related topics
14. Course Outline:
14.1 Course Objectives:
By the end of the course the students will be able to do the following in English:

● Participate in a group discussion/meeting
● Give an effective presentation

Communication and Presentation Skills consists of the following components:

The final grade students receive for the course will be based on the following

Remarks: Students should attend classes, participate in all classroom activities, and
complete all the assessments. A final grade F will be given to 1) students who have only
listening test and solo presentation scores, without any other scores from the
assessments, or 2) students who miss the solo presentation.

Students can visit www.reg.chula.ac.th for information on the final exam date.
Assessment:
The assessment of this course is norm-referenced. Each portion of the raw
scores will be weighed and the SD calculated before the total is converted into a T-score
and a final grade of an eight-letter grade system awarded.

16. Course Evaluation:
16.1 Teaching-Learning Evaluation:
Students are required to complete a questionnaire online to evaluate the teacher’s
instruction and their learning during the course. Students are also required to complete a
questionnaire in which to rate the materials they have learnt as well as give comments
and suggestions on how the course should be improved.
16.2 Discussion Promoting Desirable Attributes of CU Graduates:
This course is designed to improve students’ speaking and presentation skills in
English. It emphasizes oral communication for future education and employment. The
instructors apply flipped classroom approach where students are required to study some
online materials on their own before attending the class to further discuss and/or practice
the skills. Moreover, the communicative approach is applied leading to the promotion of
collaborative work as well as improvement of the English communication and presentation
skills. Students are encouraged to become independent learners through assignments of
self-study tasks. All the skills taught should benefit their present studies and assist them
in further study in the future.
