CBSE - XI A NNUAL E XAMINATION Time : 3 hrs.


2020 – '21 Full Marks : 70

Answers to this paper must be written on the paper provided separately.


You will not be allowed to write during the first 15 minutes. This time is to be
spent in reading the question paper. The time given at the head of this paper
is the time allowed for writing the answers.
General Instructions :
1. (a) All questions are compulsory.
(b) Section A : Q.no. 1 to 20 are very short answer questions (objective type) and carry 1 mark
each.
(c) Section B : Q.no. 21 to 27 are short answer questions and carry 2 marks each.
(d) Section C : Q.no. 28 to 34 are long answer questions and carry 3 marks each.
(e) Section D : Q.no. 35 to 37 are also long answer questions and carry 5 marks each.
(f) There is no overall choice. However an internal choice has been provided in two questions
of two marks, two questions of three marks and all the three questions of five marks
weightage. You have to attempt only one of the choices in such questions.
(g) Use of log tables if necessary, use of calculators is not allowed.

SECTION – A
Read the given passage and answer the questions 1 to 5 that follow:
Dihydrogen, under certain reaction conditions, combines with almost all elements, except noble gases,
to form binary compounds, called hydrides. If ‘E’ is the symbol of an element then hydride can be
expressed as EHx.The hydrides are classified into three categories.
1. Name the three types of hydrides.
2. Would you expect the hydrides of N, O and F to have lower boiling points than the hydrides of their
subsequent group members ? Give reasons.
3. Give one example of electron rich hydride and an electron precise hydride.
4. Convert: Diborane to Boric acid.

Can phosphorus with outer electronic configuration 3s 2 3p 3 form PH5?
5. Give an example of Interstitial hydrides.

of van der Waal’s constant.
22. State Amonton’s law. An iron tank contains helium at a pressure of 2.5 atmosphere at 25ºC. The tank
can withstand a maxiumum pressure of 10 atmosphere. The building in which the tank has been placed
catches fire. Predict whether the tank will blow up first or melt. (The melting point of iron = 1535ºC)

(a) Show the graphical representation of Charle’s law.
(b) Using equation of state PV = nRT show that at a given temperature, the density of the gas is
proportional to the gas pressure P.
23. What transition in the hydrogen spectrum would have the same wavelength as the Balmer transition
n = 4 to n = 2 of He+ spectrum?
24. (a) Explain, why electron gain enthalpy of noble gases are positive.
(b) Write the general electronic configuration of d-block elements.
25. During nitrogen estimation in an organic compound by Kjeldahl’s method, the ammonia evolved from
0.5 g of the compound neutralized 10 mL of 1M H2SO4. What is the % of nitrogen in the organic
compound?

28. Calculate the enthalpy of combustion of glucose (C6H12O6 + 6O2 ! 6O2 + 6H2O) from the following
data :

(ii) H2(g) + 1/2O2(g)  H2O(l); H = – 269.4 kJ
(iii) 6C(s) + 6H2(g) + 3O2(g)  C6H12O6(s); H = –1169.8 KJ.

(a) Calculate the entropy change when 36g of liquid water evaporates at 373 K (Hvap = 40.63 kJ/
mole).
(b) (i) For the reaction 2Cl(g)  Cl2(g); what will be the sign of S?
(ii) What happens to work when a gas expands into vacuum?
29. (a) State law of multiple proportions.
(b) What mass of P4O10 will be obtained from the reaction of 1.33 g of P4 and 5.07 g of oxygen?

30. (a) When sulphur in the form of S8 is heated at 900 K, the initial pressure of 1 atm falls by 29%
at equilibrium. This is because of conversion of some S8 to S2. Find the value of Kp for this
reaction.
(b) For the reaction N2(g) + 3H2(g) l 2NH3(g) + heat, when the reaction is in equilibrium, predict
whether the amount of ammonia increases or decreases if
(i) the pressure on the system is increased.
(ii) the concentration of hydrogen gas is increased.
