Lesson: New Year’s Eve

Communicative aims:
-To listen to the new lesson and answer correctly to the questions and tasks;
-To understand the new words and try to remember them;
-To be able to speak correctly about New Year’s Eve traditions.

Materials:
-Textbook;
-Videos;
-Digital course book.
Activity 1- organize the class
Aim: to create a proper atmosphere for teaching the new lesson
Procedure: the Teacher greets and asks the Students questions such as “How are you?”, trying
to create a nice atmosphere for the lesson.
Skills covered: listening, speaking.
Timing: 5 min

Activity 2 – video about the British New Year

Procedure: the Teacher asks the students to watch a video about the British New Year and
during the video the T also asks questions and the Students will answer.
Skills covered: listening, speaking
Timing: 10 min

Activity 3- video about New Year’s Eve around the world

Procedure: the T asks the students to watch a video about New Year’s Eve in different countries
and asks some questions during the video which the Students will answer.
Skills covered: listening, speaking
Timing: 10 min

Activity 4- learning vocabulary related to New Year’s Eve

Procedure: the T shows a video with some words related to New Year’s Eve and explains them
to the Students.
Skills covered: listening
Timing: 5 min

Activity 5- video from digital course book about traditions for New Year’s Eve in different
countries
Procedure: the T shows a video in which the Students will discover some traditions in different
parts of the world
Skills covered: listening
Timing: 5 min

Activity 6- exercises from the textbook, related to New Year’s Eve

Procedure: the T asks the Students to read the paragraphs and match them to a possible heading
which they believe fits the best. The Students will have to complete the corresponding boxes, for
the next exercise.

Timing: 5 min

Activity 7- feedback and homework

Aim: checking the understanding of the lesson
Procedure: the T asks the Students some questions about today’s lesson, such as “When do we
celebrate the New Year?” and “What traditions do you know in Romania?”. The Teacher
explains the Students the homework for next time.
