I think languages are what makes us who we are and enhances our cultural background and

roots.I feel that your mother tongue reflects back to your identity and kids our age are
sometimes fortunate enough to learn their mother tongue and understand their background and
roots. A lot of kids growing up dont have the chance to learn who they are until they come to
that age of understanding, for example I have a personal friend who doesn't know her mother
tongue(punjabi) and such about her background ( Punjabi, Indian) and she now regrets not
being able to learn it because she lacks in simple knowledge about her roots and can’t
understand her own background history. Nor can she understand what her grandparents and
ancestors have sacrificed for the culture and faith beliefs, this plays a big role in confidence as
well and an example I can give is about myself. Someone like me who was born and raised in a
punjabi household with parents who taught me my mother tongue and have me grow up in the
traditional and cultural environment, growing up like this makes me confident about who I am
and brings more understanding about my personality. Having the proper knowledge and
knowing my mother tongue makes me who I am today, which can help me in the future with
standing up to my own community, helping others, and educating. Supporting my community in
times like these ( Farmers Protest) make me feel proud of being in such a strong community
and grateful for my background and people.
