DEFINITION OF TERMS
Indigenous Knowledge (IK) is the local knowledge which is unique to a given culture or
society. IK contrasts with the international knowledge system generated by universities,
research institutions and private firms. (Warren, 1991).

Indigenous Media are owned, controlled, and managed by indigenous people in order
for them to develop and produce culturally appropriate information in the languages
understood by the community by utilizing indigenous materials and resources. It
reflects community needs and interests, visions and aspirations, and independent from
vested interest groups. (Indigenous Media, Freedom of Expression and Right to
Information: ASEAM Scenario, 2014).

The characteristics of Indigenous Media:


a. Oral tradition

c. Information exchange is face-to-face
d. Information are contained within the border of the community

According to Cambridge Dictionary, a library is a


building, room, or organization that has a collection,
especially of books, for people to read or borrow,
usually without payment. There are lots of modern
library nowadays which connects to the contemporary
preference of the millennials.

Cambridge Dictionary defines the Internet as the large system of connected computers
around the world that allows people to share information and communicate with each
other.

Mass media refers to the channels of communication that involve transmitting


information in some way, shape or form to large numbers of people.
