COMMUNITY BASED ACTION PLAN

(Mariveles, Bataan)

Problem: Landslide
A landslide, which is the movement of
rock, soil, or debris down a sloping
area of terrain, is the problem in
Mariveles, Bataan.

Purpose of the plan:

1. To Help you cope with the stress of an emergency or disaster.

2. To become better prepared to face a range of emergencies.

3. To mitigate the effects of catastrophes such as flood proofing, raising or

transferring a property out of harm's path, and securing goods that may shake
away in an earthquake

4. To be ready to be self-sufficient for at least three days.

5. To understand how to respond to severe weather or

other disasters that may occur in your region.
Why it is a problem?
It is a problem for the fact that its impact
can be very extensive. The slides in

Mariveles can consist of rockfalls,

mudflows, slope failures, and more and
can happen anywhere there is a slope
gradient, it doesn’t have to be steep,
just enough for gravity and momentum
to do their thing.
EFFECTS OF THE LANDSLIDE:
- Its consequences can be severe, including loss of life, infrastructure ruin, land
degradation, and natural resource depletion.

- Landslide debris can also clog waterways,

increasing the danger of flooding.

- Deep landslides caused by significant

earthquakes or volcanic activity have the
potential to damage hundreds of square
kilometers of land and kill thousands of people.

- Landslides also have a severe impact on

farmers' livelihoods since they can
obstruct access to land for years, ruin seed
and food stores, and frequently result in
animals and standing crops being lost.

- Landslide and flood events can have

significant socio- economic impacts.
These include the severance of access
to and from relatively remote communities for services and markets for goods;
employment, health and educational opportunities; and social activities.

WHAT ARE THE SOLUTIONS?
Heavy rain is the main trigger producing landslides and slope failures on both natural and
constructed slopes. Here are some things you can do to prepare yourself and your
property when heavy rain is in the forecast.

Clean out ditches and culverts so that stormwater will flow

through them freely. Make sure your house downspouts are not
flowing onto any fill slopes. Also, don’t drive during the heavy
rains, as that is when many roads are
impacted by landslides.

Consider the locations of all planned project infrastructure to

ensure that landslide risk is not significantly increased as a result
of project construction, such as through improper excavation, slope loading, vegetation
removal, and interference with natural waterways and/or existing drainage systems.

WHAT AND WHO CAN BE HELPED WITH THE SOLUTION?

The community, government, and the environment may all profit from the
solution. Those who live in areas prone to heavy rainfall, storms, and
cyclones, which cause water to landslide into normally dry terrain, as well
as those most vulnerable to the hazard, such as those who live in in non-
resistant structures, or who lack warning systems and landslide
awareness, can be assisted. Young individuals, women, persons with
persistent sensory, impairments, and those who rely on assistive
technology or complicated medication regimens to survive will all benefit
from this approach.

Furthermore, the objects that can be helped by the solutions

mentioned include people's homes, health care institutions,
businesses, communities, resource flows, numerous cultural
heritage items, and schools, because failure of essential services
can render houses uninhabitable and businesses unviable and
dangerous if a flood occurs.

MORE THINGS NEEDED IN THE PLAN

An oncoming landslide generally has warning signals, and you should be familiar enough with your
property and the surrounding area to spot them. The following equipments will assist you in
determining what to search for:
