For Reference Clause 3.5.2 (b) of Specifications-Technical Provisions of Contract Document of R-

III(d/4) States that “Payment for clearing and stripping shall be made at the unit rate quoted in
the BOQ for this item on the basis of a nominal excavation of six (6) inches layer. This nominal
six (6) inches layer shall not be included in measurement for excavation in cut, but shall be
added to measurement for compacted embankment where applicable.”

In context of para ante It is explained that Clearing & Stripping is not being determined as cft
but the amount of earth which is needed in Compacted Embankment is determined in form of
volumetric quantity as “cft” (for sake of easiness of Quantity surveyor) for precise reference its
applicability is mentioned in last sentence of Clause mentioned ante. However, it is elucidated
that quantity of Clearing & Stripping is same as Quantity of Earth which is needed in
Compacted Embankment after Clearing & Stripping. But, the only difference is that it would
not be taken in form of volumetric quantity such as “Cft” but it would be converted in to Area
such as “Sft” by dividing 0.5 ft (because Layer of Stripping is 6 inch)
