Part One: Mark 4: Choose 2 questions to answer.

1. What aims did Llyod George achieve in the Treaty of Versailles? (4 Marks)

2. Describe the main (6) features of the organization and structure of the League of Nations. (4
Marks)

The main 6 organs of League of Nations are : secretariat, assembly, council, international labour,
court of justice and special commissions. Assembly met once a year, and all members had one
vote on their meeting, the council was a committee that took main decisions, secretariat was the
“civil service” that carried out decisions taken by the council, international labour was a group of
people where each member nation sent two representatives : one employer and one worker, they
discussed working conditions to improve countries. Special commissions were just looking after
each organ.

3. What features of the Treaty of Versailles were shared by one other peace treaty of 1919–20?
(4 Marks)

One thing they had in agreement was that they were both responsible for the conflict. The Treaty
of Versailles was a peace treaty between the British and Germany that was signed in 1919. The
British powers and Austria signed the Treaty of Saint-Germain en Piece. Bulgaria signed the
Treaty of Neuilly, Hungary signed the Treaty of Trianon, and Turkey signed the Treaties of
Versailles and Geneva.
Each treaty stated that the defeated country and its partners were to blame for the war and would
be required to pay reparations. Each treaty provided that they must disarm, as well as territorial
losses.
People who claim that the Treaty of Versailles was too harsh and unfair and therefore caused
WWI are mistaken. Germany was not treated any differently than other defeated countries.

Part Two: Choose 1 question to answer.

1. Why did the Treaty of Versailles make Weimer Germany unstable up to 1923? (6 Marks)

Treaty of Versailles made Germany unstable till 1923, because one of the major "aims" of the
Treaty of Versailles was to impose reparations on Germany, as well as make them pay and give
up their land, the people were upset, soldiers were disappointed, and it was extremely difficult
for the government to keep the country in a normal state. Germany's government imposed very
high taxes on citizens in order to keep the country's budget and avoid becoming insolvent.
Germany was also "damaged" as a result of the war, and they, like other nations, want assistance.

2. Why was the League of Nations seen as a success by some and a failure by others in the
1920s? (6 Marks)
