1. a) List out the advantages of high voltage power transmission? Mention the

b) What is ionization process? Explain any three types of Ionization processes

c) Describe the Suspended particle theory of Breakdown in Liquids. 04 2 L2

3. a) Explain in detail the two schemes of cascade connection of transformers for 10 3 L5
producing the power frequency AC High voltages.
b) Three 400kV, 100kVA transformers with a short circuit impedance of 10% 06 3 L3
are connected in cascade. Determine i) the rated full load current ii) the
impedance in ohms and iii) the short circuit current when the transformers
are excited to 300kV each.
c) List out the advantages of series Resonance transformers in obtaining the 04 3 L4
power frequency AC high voltages.

4. a) Explain with the help of a neat sketch the working of a Van-de graff 06 3 L5
generator.
b) Describe the working of a three stage cockroft-walton’s dc voltage 08 3 L2
multiplier circuit. Derive the expression for output voltage.
c) A cascaded DC generator has the following data: charging voltage =200kV, 06 3 L1
supply frequency = 200Hz, stage capacitance = 0.01μF each and the load
current = 10mA. Find the optimum number of stages of the generator,
percentage ripple and output voltage.
5. a) Define the Standard Lightning Impulse voltage wave according to different 06 3 L1
international standards. What are the percentage tolerances allowed on the
front and Tail times of such wave?
b) With the help of neat sketch explain the working principle of modern 08 3 L5
multistage Impulse Generator. What are the modifications incorporated in
such generator?

c) What is Trigatron gap? With neat sketch explain its operation. 06 3 L5
