Another 1challenger for the title of best art gallery is the State
Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg. The 2frontof the museum is part
of the Winter Palace, the residence of the tsars on the banks of the
River Neva. The museum houses the largest collection of paintings in
the world, most of which were purchased by Catherine the Great and
