Lesson Topic: Sinking Ship


Lesson objectives: Students will practice their Target skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading
communication and persuasion skills and decide
which three individuals they would save from the
sinking ship.

Greeting If students are drowsy, give them a minute to talk in pairs N/A 1 min
about “What kind of person they want to be in the future.”
Explain by asking your JTE the question first, and then
answer it yourself.
Scenario Do after the desert island lesson. Handout 1 min
Introduction They have gotten off the island (yay!), they come across a 08
fast sinking ship (oh no!). They can only save 3 out of the 7
survivors.

Stress that all 7 are important and that unlike last time, they
only have a couple of minutes to decide.

Put students into groups of 4(like in the desert island


scenario)
Individual reading Give students time to read descriptions and choose which ~3
who they think should survive. minutes

Group discussion Students get only a few minutes to choose who they should ~2
save as a group, if they only can agree on one then they only minutes
saved one person!
Group Vote Write all the names on the board and take a vote on who the ~3
groups think they should save. minutes

If one name gets zero or a low number of votes ask why.
