REFLECTION
on Vocabulary Revision and Formal Presentation
What has your group learned from each activity?

● Vocab revision:
- In order to support the activities of modifying vocabs, we had the opportunity to
explore and discover many novel and useful websites as well as applications.
- The assignment helps us to improve ourselves, especially in the aspect of
presentation skills.
- We also learned how to collaborate and work in harmony with our teammates
and improve our digital skills.
● Formal presentation:
- We learned many skills necessary for a professional and standard presentation,
such as creating PowerPoint templates, natural gestures, effective eye contact,
flexible public speaking, and more.
- We also learned some presentation techniques. For example, putting everything
you're going to say on a slide is a bad idea because your audience will waste time
reading it, lose focus, and ultimately won't listen to you. Too many words can
also be perplexing. It is preferable to present a summary of the content on the
slide and, if possible, replace it with illustrations.
- Furthermore, the Q&A activity has allowed us to hone our critical thinking
skills.
- Most importantly, we have been taught effective teamwork techniques.

What will you do to improve it in the future if you get the chance to do it
again?

● Vocabulary revision:
○ Storytime: We will write the target language on the board then put our
classmates in small groups. Each peer in turn must say a sentence using
one of the target vocabulary items. The next person must continue the
story with another sentence, using another vocabulary item. The story
continues until all the words have been used.
○ Vocabulary Pictures: We will show the class a set of random pictures.
These pictures do not have to relate directly to the vocabulary being
revised. Then, we will ask our classmates to choose a picture and describe
the situation utilizing as many of the target vocabulary items as possible.
The one that uses the most words will be rewarded with a boba tea.
● Formal presentation:
○ Ask questions during the presentation: We don't really keep the speaker-
audience interaction parallel when doing our speech.
○ Add some humor: When we were preparing for the presentation, we
completely forgot about it. A sense of humor is an excellent tool for
engaging and attracting our audience's attention.

Any other thoughts about subject 3B?

Looking back on the entire experience, we realize how much our listening and
speaking skills have improved since the beginning of the course. We went from
being perplexed, self-deprecating, and lacking in presentation skills to becoming
confident students who deliver speeches that could not be more professional.
The lecturer shared extremely useful skills and experiences with us. We are
grateful for the opportunity to participate in and learn from this course!
