The sculpture is made out of wood. It stands at 3 feet tall. It has white paint that portrays her white dress. The head part is
slightly looking up.. .she has a long scarf that is painted dark and light blue. And she holds a musical instrument which is called a
Harp

St Cecilia is one of the most famous virgin martyrs of the early church and historically one of the most
discussed. She is the patron Saint for music and Musicians

According to Mr. Thomas. At the end of every Sunday mass held at the cathedral church, he could see
some people offering a prayer to her relic. This only tells that many people here at Calapan city are
devoted to the Saint.

IV. SIGNIFICANCE

A. PRIMARY CRITERIA

Indicate the type of significance, e.g. historical, aesthetic, scientific, social, socio-economic, socio-political, spiritual, and then
explain

Spiritual- The patron Saint for music and musicians have many devotees in our city offering prayers
during or at the end of Sunday masses

Historical- it was made and used after the renovation of the church in 1962

Aesthetic- You can see clearly the details of the sculpture. That saint Cecilia is a devoted servant of God.
The artistry is very fine, remarkable, and also you can see clearly her undying faith which she expresses
thru her music.

B. COMPARATIVE CRITERIA

Provenance- It was used during the first days of the renovation about 59-60 years ago.

Rarity - It is one of the oldest


relics of a saint in Calapan City the materials which help to make the designs
and artistry are hard to find nowadays, making it very rare, and antique.

Representativeness - The sculpture is a representation of Saint Cecilia herself. It is considered a highlight in


the cathedral church alongside other relics of patron saints.

Interpretative Potential - The Saint’s story can be told at school so that many will know of her story. From
the beginning and up to the day she was canonized as a Saint And patron for Music and musicians.

Remarks: Some of the paints have stains and the colors fade because of age and it has some small holes
on the bottom where the feet are standing.

B. THREATS/ISSUES/CHALLENGES:

Because of its old age, the main issue or threat would be its brittleness because the wood is very old,
said Sr Thomas Mendoza, the church’s pastoral associate.

C. CONSERVATION MEASURES: (Describe the conservation measures taken at the level of the community, provincial,
and/or national)

In case there’s a break the caretaker is mandated to replace it with new ones while maintaining its
original look. It is one of their topmost priority. Constant cleaning of the window is being implemented,
by the parish priest. They also fix holes and repaint it with new paints when it is fading.
