Chapter 3 Drawing Problem:

This problem will start you towards the process of building a commercial template in Revit.

Follow the steps below to create a custom Commercial Template in Revit.

 From the Files/Resources folder in Canvas, Download the 22x34”EGDT Revit titleblock created
by the instructor. This is the titleblock, and you should notice that it has a .RFA extension.
(Revit Family)
 Open up a new session of Revit. You are going to start a new project and this will use the
Commercial-Default.rte template. Make sure it looks the same as the image below.

 Once you have the proper template selected, push OK. This will fire up Revit.
 Now it is time to begin organizing the Project Browser.
 Scroll down to the “Sheets Section” in the Project Browser. Click on the “A1-First Floor” sheet.
It should pull up a new view and display a titleblock with the Autodesk Logo.
 You need to load a new family at this point. Under the Insert tab, click on the
“Load Family” button on the ribbon.
 Browse to the location where you saved the “EGDT 2100 22x34 Titleblock.rfa file. Click the open
button to bring it into your project. You will notice that nothing really visually happens.
 In the drawing window area, click on the Autodesk Titleblock.
 By clicking on this titleblock, it will activate the properties of this particular family.
 On the properties browser, click on the section where it lists the name of this titleblock. If you
did everything properly, you should see the new titleblock listed. Click on it, and in the drawing
area, you will see the titleblock change over to the new EGDT titleblock.
Creating the proper set of Views and Sheets

 For successful completion of this assignment, you will need to have the proper sheets in the
template along with their proper names. Below is a list of the minimum drawing requirements.
o G-000 Cover Sheet
o C-101 Architectural Site Plan
o A-101 Main Level Floor Plan
o A-102 Mezzanine Level Floor Plan
o A-103 Roof Drainage Plan
o A-104 Wall Types/Enlarged Wall Section
o A-105 Main Floor Reflected Ceiling Plan
o A-201 Exterior Elevations
o A-202 Exterior Elevations
o A-203 Interior Elevations
o A-301 Exterior Building Sections
o A-501 Architectural Details
o A-601 Door & Window Schedules/Types
o S-101 Foundation Plan
o S-102 Roof Structural Framing Plan
o S-103 Structural Elevation
 In the Project Browser, you need to rename existing sheets to reflect the above list. Also, during
the process, make sure the titleblock is the correct one that you loaded previously.
 Right click on each sheet on the list and rename it to make the above list.
 You may need to create extra sheets. To do so, right click on the word “Sheets (all)” in the
project browser, and click on “New Sheet” on the menu that appears. Choose the EGDT
titleblock.
 Try to rename the existing sheets to something similar. For example, the existing sheet C1-Site
Plan, should be renamed to C-101 Architectural site plan. This is important because certain
scales and views have already been created. Another
example would be to name the existing sheet “A11-
Interior Elevations” to “A-203 Interior Elevations”.
Don’t forget to update the titleblock.
 Whatever you do not rename, you can delete that
sheet by right clicking on it and selecting delete.
 Your project browser should look similar to the image
displayed here. Remember that Revit lists the Sheets
alphabetically.
Printing off a sheet set

 You will need to print off a Sheet set of the PDF sheets. You will then upload this set, as one
single PDF file to Canvas. I will grade you on whether you were able to get a titleblock and a set
of sheets submitted correctly.
 Get to the Print Dialog box
 Choose the proper PDF Printer Driver
 Use the image below as a guide to get the proper print settings

 Print off the set and then upload the PDF as one single file to Canvas
 Save this, so the next time you print, it will be really easy!
