Math
This month your child will be required to make a math board game. They can
create their own board game or use the board of an existing game and make their
own question cards. They must create a mix of at least 20 addition/subtraction

problems. The problems must use different strategies in order to solve. These
strategies include: word problems, open number line, break apart, compensation,

count on, count back, and adding up to subtract. This game must be a multiplayer
game (2-4 people) and have game cards, game pieces, and a board to go with it. If
your child will be using a preexisting game board please be sure he/she decorates
the board and add his/her own creative touch to it. The game must have its own
creative title. Your child must handwrite the directions to the game in neat, legible
handwriting. This project is due back in class on Tuesday, January 25th.

Requirements:
 1 board that is child decorated with a unique title and game pieces (2-4
players).
 1 handwritten directions page to explain how to play the game.
 20 addition/subtraction question cards neatly handwritten that use a mix
of strategies to solve (break apart, word problems, compensation,
addition/subtraction with regrouping, draw a model to solve, add to check
subtraction, open number line, partial sums).
 1 separate answer key for the 20 question cards.
Grading:
Was the project turned in on time?
Did the project have a creatively decorated board?
Did the game have a unique title and game pieces?
Did the student provide 20 addition/subtraction question
cards neatly written?
Did the student include a directions page?
Was the directions page neatly handwritten?
Did the student provide a separate answer key for the 20
question cards?
Did the student use multiple strategies in their question
cards?

Presentation:
Did the student understand and explain how to play the game?
Did the student use an appropriate voice when presenting?

Late assignments will result in a reduction of one letter grade for each day late. For
example: 2 days late would be a reduction of 2 letter grades.
