LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET

Communicates Ideas and Expressions Through
Simple Body Movements Using Locomotor and Non-Locomotor Movements

I. LEARNING COMPETENCY:
 Communicates ideas and expressions through simple body movements using locomotor and
non-locomotor movements (SPA_MDIIa-j-3)

Specific Objectives:
 Identify the different locomotor and non-locomotor movements.
 Analyze the expression present in a body movement.
 Communicate ideas by tracing the transition of movement from one transition to another.

II. LESSON BACKGROUND:

A. Nature and Background
Locomotor Movements
Let's start with locomotor movements. Locomotor refers to body movements that move the
body from one place to another. They cause the body to travel. There are eight main locomotor
movements. They are categorized as either even or uneven movements. Even rhythm movements
consist of equal, unvarying actions. These movements include:

WALK RUN LEAP JUMP HOP

A hop is technically defined as a springing from one foot and landing on that same foot. A
leap is a springing from one foot but landing on the other foot. Leaping movements are commonly
used when people jump over objects, like jumping over a rain puddle.
Uneven rhythm movements consist of unequal actions. They also sometimes incorporate
alternating actions. These movements include:

GALLOP SKIP

Note that a gallop is defined as stepping forward and pushing up with one foot, while the
other foot follows. The student lands on the trailing foot. You might think of it as a rudimentary skip
that toddlers do. A slide is similar, but the lead foot glides forward or sideward while the other foot
follows. The lead foot does not step or push off into the air. Sliding movements are used in skating
and skiing.
Non-locomotor Movements
Non-locomotor movements are also sometimes called axial movements. They are movements of
certain body parts, or even the whole body, without causing the body to travel. For example,
swinging your arms back and forth. Notice that non-locomotor movements are often combined with
locomotor movements, such as walking and swinging your arms.

There are many different non-locomotor movements:

FLEXION OR BENDING EXTENSION OR STRETCH

SWAY SWING

III. ACTIVITIES:

Activity 1: Multiple Choice

Directions: Choose the best answer. Write the letter of the correct answer on a separate sheet of paper.
1. These are movements that are performed in stationary position.

A. Locos movements C. Linear movements

B. Locomotor movements D. Non-locomotor movements
2. These are the movements that allow you to move from one place to another.

A. Locomotor movements C. Non-locomotor movements

B. Axial movements D. Stationary movements
3. To spring on one foot and land on the other foot.

A. Skip B. Hop C. Gallop D. Leap

4. To glide over the floor with one foot

A. Slide B. Hop C. Step D. Leap

5. This is the basis of all Locomotor movements.

Activity 2: Spot the Expression
Direction: Fill in the table below. Determine the expression in the picture and identify the type of specific
movement displayed in by the picture.

Activity 3: Widen your Imagination
Directions: Did you ever wonder what life was like for a frog that lived one day as a small frog and the next
day as a big frog? I want you to imagine what are the movements of the frog every now and then? I want
you to list down movements which the frog transfers from one place to another and movements of the frog
which are stationary. List as many as you can imagine. Write your answer in a separate sheet of paper.

Activity 4:
Directions: Choose three locomotor movements and two non-locomotor movements. Think of and
situation where you can apply those you have choose. Write your answer on a separate sheet of paper.
