Multilayer Abutment Screw Retained Crown
(cement retained, 2 piece) (one piece)

CEREC users can design and mill custom, cement-re-

tained abutments (also known as traditional, or
hybrid abutments), as well as custom, screw-retained
abutments (single piece, or hybrid abutment crowns)
for the following manufacturers and implant systems:

Dentsply: Nobel Biocare Zimmer

Astra Tech OsseoSpeed TX Replace (trilobe) Tapered Screw-Vent
Frialit/Xive Active (or Replace Conical)
Branemark (external hex)

Biomet 3I: Straumann

External Hex Standard (hex or SynOcta)
Certain Bone level (crossfit)

Both types of abutments require the following parts:

1) The correct TiBase (titanium screw and base) to

connect the milled abutment to the implant TiBase Kit Scanbody Scanpost Kit

points for indexing
2) The correct Scanbody (disposable scanning cap) the implant into

3) Ivoclar Hybrid Abutment cement to join the
TiBase to the abutment

4) The correct e.max abutment block (the block with

a hole in it)

The Correct TiBase

The TiBase becomes part of the final abutment. It Patterson # Sirona

provides a titanium interface between the milled see chart TiBase and Screw $87.95
abutment and the implant.
see chart Scanpost and Screw $98.50
You need one TiBase kit for each abutment case.
Each kit comes with one titanium screw and one
TiBase specific to an implant manufacturer’s sys-
tem and platform size.

Each Tibase has a top part and a bottom part. The

top part only comes in 2 sizes: S (small) and L
(large). The size is found in the far right column of
the chart on page 4.

The bottom part of the TiBase varies in shape

(conical, trilobe, external hex or crossfit) and in
size according to the implant manufacturer’s plat-
form size.

To order the correct TiBase kit, you only need to

know two things: the supported implant manufac-
turer’s system and platform size (the part where
the TiBase connects to). Sometimes the platform Implant
size is listed in millimeters and sometimes it’s list- Crown

= narrow neck). Custom

You don’t need to know the implant’s diameter or
length to find the correct part number.

Let’s say your oral surgeon places the following
implant:
Implant
Tooth number: 23
Implant Manuf.: Zimmer
Implant System: TSV (Tapered Screw Vent)
Implant Length: 16 mm
Implant Diameter: 3.7 mm
Platform Size: 3.5 mm

What is the correct TiBase part number? Looking

at the chart, we see that under Zimmer Tapered
Screw-Vent, the correct TiBase for the 3.5 mm
platform is Patterson #662-4696.

Notice that we didn’t need to know the implant’s

diameter or length. Also notice that two implants
can have different diameters and lengths but still
have the same platform size (e.g., both the 3.7 mm
and 4.1 mm diameter Zimmer TSV implants have
the same 3.5 mm platform).

If you’re not placing your own implants, it’s im-
portant to get the platform size from your special-
ist or from his or her local implant manufacturer’s
representative.

After finding the correct TiBase kit, make note of

the top portion: S or L (see the far right column
on the chart on page 4 for the corresponding size).
This is important when ordering abutment blocks
and other accessories.

The Correct Scanbody

A Scanbody is a disposable plastic appliance that Female notch

sits on top of a TiBase or Scanpost during scan- of the Scanbody
ning.

The top of the Scanbody gives the software in- Bluecam Omnicam

with the Omnicam. Remember to specify size S or 560-0614 Bluecam (L)
L when ordering. 560-0622 Bluecam (S)

(Optional) Scanpost for Intraoral Scanning

Because the top of the Scanbody tells the software

the correct height and angle of the implant, it’s im-
portant to visually verify that it’s put on properly
(see green checkmark to the right).

When scanning stone models, this is easy to do

because you can trim away any stone material that
could keep the Scanbody from fully seating.

But when scanning in the mouth, the TiBase

doesn’t stick up very high so it’s difficult to tell if
the Scanbody is indexed and fully seated.

That’s why Sirona came out with ScanPosts. Think

Male notch on Male notch on
of them as long-necked TiBases that you use
TiBase ScanPost
during intraoral scanning. ScanPosts are autoclav-
able, so you can use them over and over again.

Like the TiBase, the top portion of the ScanPost is

either small (S) or large (L). Both the TiBase and
ScanPost have a male notch (see red arrows) that
index with the female notch of the Scanbody and
the base of the milled abutment.

6 – CEREC Abutments 101: What Parts Are Needed? v. 16.8.25

After fastening the ScanPost to the implant with
the titanium screw, take a radiograph to verify that
it’s fully seated. Then, place a Scanbody on top and
visually verify that it is indexed and fully seated
before scanning.

To find the correct part number, find your implant

manufacturer on the chart on page 4. Then, find
the platform sizes of that manufacturer’s implant.
Scan across to find the Patterson part numbers for
the ScanPost.

Ivoclar Hybrid Abutment Cement

Multilink Hybrid Abutment cement is a self-cur-

ing luting cement for extraoral cementation of
e.max to titanium (e.g., TiBase).

Which MO shade do you need to order? Select the desired final shade of your implant crown from the chart below.
Order the MO shade that corresponds to that desired shade. The MO block provides your stump shade.

When restoring Camlog implants, order the TiBase from Camlog.

But when you order the e.max abutment blocks and Scanbodies, make
sure to specify the correct TiBase post size: S or L.
