Meet Our )ew Deacons

Following last week’s bulletin announcement about Our Lady of Peace’s new deacons, here is some background informa-
tion on Ken DiPaola and Charlie Boucher.
Ken is originally from Brooklyn and moved to New Providence 28 years ago when he and his wife Susan were married.
They have a daughter, Samantha who is currently studying for her Masters Degree at Franciscan University in Steubenville,
Ohio.
Ken has an MBA and worked for 27 years on Wall Street in the Investor Relations business. Eight years ago, he changed
careers and now works for the Archdiocese of Newark where he is the director of development focusing on marketing the
Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, Stewardship and advising parishes seeking to start capital campaigns.

Charlie and Francine have been married for 36 years and are longtime residents of Summit. Francine is a graduate of the
Academy of Our Lady of Peace and is currently a senior managing lawyer at Prudential. Both attended Union Catholic
High School, where they first met. He served in the US Army, earned an MBA from Columbia, and recently retired from
a career in information technology. He worked for the NY Times, Chase, Salomon, and Morgan Stanley, and was the
chief information officer for Standard & Poor’s and for the US Securities & Exchange Commission. Charlie’s ministries
have included Minister of the Eucharist to the homebound and at Overlook hospital, being a member of the RCIA and
Baptism teams, and as a Lector. He was an eagle scout and earned the Ad Altare Dei award.

We are Looking for Sandwiches
Please Help!
On Tuesday, May 17th, we will deliver sandwiches made
at home by Our Lady of Peace parishioners to St. Joseph’s
Social Service Center. The sandwiches will be used in vari-

Turn the loaf of bread into sandwiches by using your
choice of sandwich fillings (e.g., any type of cold
cuts, peanut butter & jelly, etc. You can put a little
mustard or butter on the bread but no mayo,
please!).
Put each sandwich into a baggie.
Return the wrapped sandwiches to the loaf wrapper and
close it up.
Tape a piece of paper to the loaf wrapper telling the
kind of sandwiches you have made
Bring the sandwiches to Our Lady of Peace on the
Tuesday morning:
From 7:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., sandwiches can be left
in the vestibule of the church on the side closest
to the Rectory.
From 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., sandwiches should be
brought to the lobby of the Parish Hall.
At 9:30 a.m., we leave to deliver sandwiches.

used at Mass (The Roman Missal). A series of quotes explaining the parts of the Mass from the General Instruc-
tion of the Roman Missal (GIRM) will be posted here. These explanations are meant to help the reader participate
more fully in the Sunday Mass. Please check here weekly.

The Importance and Dignity of the Eucharistic Celebration

The celebration of Mass, as the action of Christ and the People of God…is the center of the whole Christian life for
the Church both universal and local, as well as for each of the faithful…It is therefore of the greatest importance
that the celebration of the Mass…be so arranged that the sacred ministers and the faithful taking part in it…may
derive from it more abundantly those fruits for the sake of which Christ the Lord instituted the Eucharistic Sacri-
fice of his Body and Blood…
This will best be accomplished if…the entire celebration is planned in such a way that it leads to a conscious, ac-
tive, and full participation of the faithful both in body and in mind, a participation burning with faith, hope, and
charity, of the sort which is desired by the Church and demanded by the very nature of the celebration, and to
which the Christian people have a right and duty by reason of their Baptism. (GIRM 16, 17, 18)

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REGISTRATION
Registration for fall sessions now in progress
The Catechetical Office is located in the Rectory -Office Hours: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm daily.
Other hours by appointment 908-464-8156 olpcatoff@aol.com
Registration forms and Parent Handbooks are on the tables in the back of the church and in the slots by the rectory reception desk.
All Catholic children attending public schools should attend religious education classes so that they may be well grounded in our faith
and be prepared for the sacraments. You may either mail your completed forms to the Catechetical Office or drop them off at our
Office located in the rectory. When you register before June 15 you qualify for the “early bird” tuition rate.
First Grade Don’t delay registering your young one. Our First Reconciliation and Eucharist preparation begins in grade one. Chil-
dren generally receive First Reconciliation in the second grade and First Communion in the third grade after they have experienced
full preparation during those three years.
Kindergarten Sessions Our Lady of Peace parish also offers religious education for kindergarten aged children at a reduced fee.
Kindergarten classes are not ‘required’ but parents often want their children to begin classes at this age. Please call the Catechetical
Office at 908-464-8156 for information.

One of the most rewarding things you can do is share your faith with the MAKE ME STRONG IN SPIRIT

Marriage Anniversary Masses
The Archdiocese will celebrate anniversary
Masses commemorating special years for couples.
On June 5, 2011 couples celebrating 50 years of
marriage or more are invited to the Cathedral at
3:00 p.m. for Mass with the Archbishop (the regis-
tration deadline is Friday, May 27th). On June 12,
2011, couples celebrating 25 years and 5 years of
marriage are invited to the Cathedral for Mass with
the Archbishop at 3:00 p.m. (the registration dead-
line is Friday, June 3rd).

much outside or family support
