MEET JOAN WILLIAMS
What brought you
to Northwood?
Moving back to
Indianapolis from
Lafayette after 25
years, I was invited
by Margaret Talyor
to attend a class and
worship at
Northwood. This
was my first Sunday in Robin Run. Sitting
in worship that morning and hearing Ted's
message and the choir, I knew this would
be my home to worship.
Northwood had been one of the sponsoring
congregations for my ordination and Jack
Fox had been the choir director for that
special event in my life in 1985.
I have many memories of Northwood in the
70's and 80's when we held many youth and
education events and planning meetings in
your library.
Who or what were some of the influences
that shaped your life and your faith?
As a young child, there were many people
that had an influence on my faith
journey. My father was killed when I was
10 and my sister was 9. My mother became
a young widow and the church played an
important part in our lives. Two Quakers,
one a teacher and one a minister loved us
and showed us what caring was all about.
As an adult, my mission trips to
developing countries have opened my eyes
to the needs of all persons of the world and
how listening to persons of different faiths
and accepting them have given me new
insight into what I believe. This has made
my faith stronger. I know that I am still
open, searching and growing in my spiri-
tual life and on a new journey in my adult
life.
What are your hobbies and interests?
I love to read, travel and enjoy God's
wonderful creation. Especially beauty I see
daily.
What else would you like us to know about
you?
This year will be my sabbatical year as I
learn to say "no" to many invitations for
areas of leadership at Robin Run Village
and Northwood as I listen to God's
calling.

music they provided that lifted our souls
during the Lenten time.
Thank you to our garden group who
planted and tidied up our church grounds
on May 7th. Please visit and enjoy the
Chapel Garden. Thanks especially to
Judy Dunson for the donation of flowers
from the CWS sale. And also to Jeff Lin-
nan, Sue Blunck, Sally King, Connie Sla-
ter, Denise Rogers, Jo and Hugh Plant for
their continued care of our greenspace.
