Replacement of the P/N 02-4107-01 nut with the P/N MS21042-4 nut will reduce the cost of repair and overhaul of the starter-generators listed above. Description This service information letter provides authorization for the use of P/N MS21042-4 self locking nut in the starter-generators listed on page 1. The change to the part number of the self locking nut estab- lishes the P/N MS21042-4 self locking nut as the “standard” part for use in the starter-generators listed on page 1. This covers most LAPSA starter-generators. D. Compliance LAPSA recommends that the part introduction described by this service information letter be accom- plished when the P/N 02-4107-01 double hex self locking nut requires replacement, E. Approval This service Information letter has the approval of LAPSA and contains no modification information that revises the approved configuration of affected starter-generetors and therefore does not require govern- mental or other regulatory agency approval. F, Manpower No additional man-hours are required during repair or overhaul of the starter-generator. 2 Weight and Balance Effect on weight: None. Effect on balance: None. H. Re-identified Parts Re-Identification of parts on the starter-generators listed on page 1 is not required. 3. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS A. Preparation The nut replacement shall be performed in a clean, dry area free of oil, dirt, moisture, and other con- tamination. The starter-generator must be kept clean to ensure satisfactory operation of the unit. B. Disassembly ‘The starter-generator shall be fully disassembled according to the instructions in the applicable CMM. with IPL and to the extent necessary to remove the PIN 02-4107-01 double hex self locking nut. 23703 Jan 24/97 ©1997 Lucas Aerospace Page 3 of 4 Lucas Aerospace SERVICE INFORMATION LETTER c. Cleaning Fully clean the starter-generator according to the instructions in the applicable CMM with IPL. Inspection Fully inspect the starter-generator according to the instructions in the applicable CMM with IPL. . Modification Modification of the starter-generator, parts, or assemblies is not required to accomplish the part number change described in this service information letter. Assembly ‘Assemble the starter-generator according to the instructions in the applicable CMM with IPL with the ex: ‘ception that the P/N MS21042-4 single hex self locking nut shall be installed in place of the P/N 02- 4107-01 double hex self locking nut. . Testing During overhaul, a complete acceptance test is required before the starter-generator is released to the aircraft operator.
