Introduction:

The Pandora Papers are one of the biggest data leaks in history,
revealing how the rich and powerful have been hiding their
investments in mansions, exclusive beachfront property, yachts
and other assets for the past quarter of a century.
Pandora Papers

 The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists
(ICIJ) published an explosive investigation dubbed
the Pandora Papers on October 3, 2021, highlighting how
world leaders, personalities and business executives hid $11.3
trillion in more than 29,000 offshore companies of more than
300 politicians and public officials from more than 90 countries
and territories.
International Consortium of
Investigative Journalists (ICIJ)

 The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists is
an organization situated in Washington, D.C. It was formed by
American journalist Charles Lewis as an initiative of the
Center for Public Integrity in 1997.

 For the Pandora Papers, it took about 600 journalists from 150
media outlets in 117 countries, including London-based The
Guardian, French newspaper Le Monde and German news site
Die Zeit.
ICIJ Director’s Statement

 Gerard Ryle, the director of ICIJ said:

"We’re not looking at a couple of million of dollars here,


we’re looking at trillion of dollars,"

 Shah Abdullah of Jordan

 Tony Blair, former prime minister of the UK

 Qatar’s ruler

 Leaders of Ukraine, Kenya, and the Czech Republic


Pandora Papers & Pakistan

 700 Pakistani names in leaked offshore company documents,
including:
 Shaukat Fayaz Ahmed Tarin, Finance Minister
 Moonis Elahi, federal minister water resources
 Sharjeel Memon of PPP
 Punjab’s senior minister Abdul Aleem Khan
 ISI former DG for counter terrorism Major Gen Nusrat
Naeem
 Senator Faisal Vawda
 Arif Usmani, president National Bank and more.
Finance Minister’s Response

 Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin has explained that he had
acquired permission from the State Bank of Pakistan to open
his offshore company. Additionally, these companies were part
of his declared assets from 2008 onwards.
Statement of Prime Minister

 Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced that:

“Every name in the Pandora Paper from Pakistan will be


investigated an action would be taken against whoever is found
guilty.”
Conclusion

 If the company is declared and not used for any illegal
transaction then the act of making such a company is not illegal.
