Precautionary Measures Before, During and After Earthquake

CABE
The effects of a strong earthquake can make people afraid and panic.
However, certain precautionary measures must be observed before,
during and after an earthquake in order to protect one’s self and to lessen
the damages.

Here are some important measures to remember before, during and after
the earthquakes.

Decay to reduce danger at the time of earthquake is PLANNING. So


before an earthquakes occurs.
1. Create a Disaster Preparedness Plan for your house or place of work.
2. Practice "drop, cover and hold on" until it becomes second nature.
3. Decide on a rallying point for your family for after the earthquake. 
4. Learn how to turn off the utilities in your house, especially the gas
line.
5. Prepare a disaster supply kit, and inform the entire household of its
location. 
6. Fasten any large items securely to the walls and floor.
7. Place breakable items in closed cabinets that have latches. 
8. Remove or secure hanging objects from above seating and sleeping
areas. 
9. Check that your house is up-to-date with earthquake protections. 

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE DURING AN EARTHQUAKE


1. Dropping, Taking Cover and Holding On (Indoors)
2. Remain inside until shaking stops and it is safe to go outside.
3. Stay away from buildings, street lights and utility wires. 
4. Stop as quickly as possible if you are in a vehicle and remain inside.
5. Stay calm if you are trapped under debris.
6. Be prepared to face a possible tsunami if you are near a big body of
water.

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE AFTER AN EARTHQUAKE


1. Checking for Injuries and Seeking Help.
2. Prepare for aftershocks. 
3. Get to a wide open space once you're outside.
4. Inspect the electrical wiring in your home for any damage. 
5. Extinguish any fires inside or outside your home. 
6. Leave if your home is unsafe. 
7. Find a local shelter if your home is unsafe to return to. 
8. Call your family, neighbors, or a roommate if you have a cell phone. 
9. Use a battery-powered radio or television to listen to local emergency
information.

It is important to observe safety precautionary measures before, during


and after an earthquake. When all these precautions are observed properly
damage brought about by earthquakes can be reduced.
