Discussion

1. Key Concept: Team Sports

Water sports are always fun filled. The thrill of enjoying the deep blue water, cool
wind blowing in your hair and the adrenaline rush you get while doing the sport can be
exciting. Some can be dangerous or extreme, while some can be relaxing and
energizing. But one thing is for sure, whether it’s for leisure or for competition, it has
universal appeal.

Rowing is a sport in which athletes compete while riding in boats on the ocean, river
or lakes. It involves propelling a boat using oars. It can either be recreational, for fitness
or competitive, where athletes team up in boats and race against each other.

A team sport includes any sport where individuals are organized into
opposing teams which compete to win. Team members act together towards a shared
objective. This can be done in a number of ways such as outscoring the opposing team.

Team members set goals, make decisions, communicate, manage conflict, and solve
problems in a supportive, trusting atmosphere in order to accomplish their objectives.

Examplesare basketball, volleyball, rugby, waterpolo, handball, lacrosse, cricket, base

ball, and the various forms of association football and hockey.

Team sports are practiced between opposing teams, where the players generally
interact directly and simultaneously between them to achieve an objective. The objective
often involves teammates facilitating the movement of a ball or similar object in
accordance with a set of rules, in order to score points. The meaning of a "team sport"
has been disputed in recent years. Some types of sports have different objectives or
rules than "traditional" team sports. These types of team sports do not involve
teammates facilitating the movement of a ball or similar item in accordance with a set of

rules, in order to score points. For example, swimming, rowing, sailing, dragon boat
racing, and track and field among others can also be considered team sports.

In team sports, success or failure in competition depends on many variables no

matter your talent level in team sport; you must rely on your teammates. Likewise,
team sports promote the virtue of working together.
Team sports help students develop character and teamwork skills. Teamwork
is a skill we use our whole life, so it's important to learn the basics early. Playing team
sports at a young age allows children to participate in social interactions, work together
to achieve goals, and build skills such as teamwork and leadership.

Also, team sports are not only good for you, they are also great for your kids. In fact,
joining a team is perhaps one of the most beneficial things that your kids can do
because it teaches respect, teamwork, social skills, confidence, and so much
more, not to mention that it's just physically healthy as well.

Key Concept: Definition of Different types of Water Sports

2.1 Synchronized swimming, referred to by international governing

body FINA as artistic swimming since 2017, is a hybrid form of swimming, dance,
and gymnastics, consisting of swimmers performing a synchronized routine (either solo,
duet, trio, mixed duet, free team, free combination, and highlight) of elaborate moves in the
water, accompanied by music. Artistic swimming is governed internationally by FINA, and
has been part of the Summer Olympics program since 1984.

Synchronized swimming is a combination of swimming, dance and gymnastics. It’s all

about performing an elegant, elaborate, synchronized move in the water, accompanied by
music. It requires advanced water skills, aerobic endurance, flexibility, strength, grace,
creativity, perfect timing, as well as exceptional breath control when upside down
underwater. Swimmers are not allowed to touch the bottom of the pool in synchronized
swimming. Also, only women are allowed to compete in Olympics and World Championships,
but there are other competitions in synchronized swimming that are open for men.

During a performance, while swimmers are completing gravity-defying moves,

they are not touching the bottom of the pool. They practice and compete in at least 9 feet
of water or deeper. They do all of this while lifting each other up as well.
For Olympic viewers hoping to catch synchronized swimming in Tokyo, they may have a
hard time finding it. That's because it's now called artistic swimming. Long known as
synchronized swimming, the sport rebranded itself after the 2016 Rio Olympics.

a rescue when a swimmer is in difficulty. These include a combination
of communication skills, specific "rescue" swimming strokes, and release and evade
techniques for self-preservation should the rescue go wrong.

Survival swimming incorporates being able to breathe when needed. Many programs
teach children to lift their heads to breathe

American Korean Red Cross Lifeguards train for the times. In this photo, one American and
19 Korean lifeguards from throughout the peninsula practice deep water spinal injury rescue
procedures.

• From the outset once a swimmer in difficulty is spotted, eye contact must be maintained
at all times.
• Assess the situation: environment, available physical equipment, others who can help,
etc.
• Attempt to establish voice contact, which if successful can often result in a "voice-
rescue."
• A rescuer should enter the water only as a last resort.
• Rescues should be attempted in the following order: talk, throw, reach, wade, row,
swim, tow and carry.

Water polo is a competitive team sport played in the water between two teams.
The game consists of four quarters in which the two teams attempt to score goals by
throwing the ball into the opposing team's goal. Also called football in the water, water polo
is an energetic sport in which players must swim and defend the ball to try to score in the
opponent’s goal. It’s played by teams of seven with a buoyant ball that looks like a soccer
ball. But it’s more like soccer and basketball and handball rather than polo. It’s intense and
competitive, and it’s one of the oldest Olympic events. It involves a full body workout,
rigorous gameplay and a lot of strategies.

The game of water polo was first played in the United States in 1888. It featured the
old rugby style of play which looked like American football in the water. ... The first games
were played on nearby rivers and lakes, and the game's passing similarity to
horseback polo gave it the name “water polo.”

A game of water polo mainly consists of the players swimming to move about the
pool, treading water (mainly using the eggbeater kick), passing the ball, and shooting at the
goal. Teamwork, tactical thinking and awareness are also highly important aspects in
a game of water polo

.4 Canoe polo, also known as Kayak polo, is one of the competitive disciplines of kayaking,
known simply as "polo" by its aficionados. Polo combines boating and ball handling skills
with a contact team game, where tactics and positional play are as important as the speed
and fitness of the individual athletes. Canoeing is distinguished from kayaking, as this sport
uses a single-bladed paddle instead of double. Also, in canoes, the paddler either sits on a
raised seat or kneels on the bottom of the boat. Canoeing can be done individually or with a
group in rivers, lakes, ocean or even water parks. It can either be relaxing or adventurous
depending on the type of water you do you’re canoeing on.

lightweight materials. Originating from China, dragon boat racing emerged as a modern
international watersport. It’s the most popular activity during the Dragon Boat Festival.

Diving - firstly, encourage the further development of recreational scuba diving equipment
and technique; secondly, promote scuba diving activities in localities that are remote from
suitable diving sites or where open water activity may be prohibited by seasonal or adverse
weather conditions; thirdly, to provide an opportunity for recreational scuba divers to

with underwater hockey and underwater rugby. As with both of those games, it is played in
a swimming pool with snorkeling equipment (mask, snorkel, and fins).
Underwater football was developed in the 1960s by Dave Murdoch, a scuba diving
instructor who was teaching in the Manitoba's Frank Kennedy Centre. The game developed
from a "keep-away" training exercise that used a pool brick to develop the students
snorkeling skills. It is still played there today.
