Mission Cards
For use with all Empires Rulesets
The Mission Cards change the state of play from merely needing to destroy more units and
capturing more bearers than your opponent to forcing the players to adapt their tactics to
meet chosen missions criteria.
How to Play
Before forces are deployed, each player picks up three cards (allied players also). The three
cards you pick cannot be shown to any other player; failing to do so will forfeit any points
gained from the Mission Card and no other card can be chosen to replace it.
If a player picks up a card but is unable to carry out the mission due to unit limitations i.e.
They do not have a Wizard in their army but one is required for the mission; the player must
show all players that they are unable to meet the Mission Card parameters and then picks
up another Mission Card; this action is the same also for cards that are written for certain
rulesets e.g. Diceless only or Colossus only.
Difficulty
When a Mission Card’s criteria is met, points are awarded depending on the difficulty of the
mission. This is measured under the following criteria:
1. Simple Mission – 1 point is awarded to the player for completing this mission.
2. Tough Mission – 2 points are awarded to the player for completing this mission.
3. Hard Mission – 3 points are awarded to the player for completing this mission.
Winning Conditions
When a Mission Card’s criteria is met, the player is awarded points. These points are added
onto the Standard Winning Conditions found in the Empires: Core Rulebook.
Players can choose to adapt the deployment of the Mission Cards by drawing a new Mission
Card every time they complete a mission; in some games, why not draw a new card every
time a player completes a mission giving some players a choice of missions to focus on.
