STUDY GUIDE 7: MATHEMATICS 4

GRADE LEVEL GRADE 4

TOPIC/TITLE BASIC CONCEPTS ON GEOMETRIC FIGURES
WEEK/S: WEEK 1 – 2

QUARTER: 3rd QUARTER

I. INTRODUCTION
Hello there! We are now off to our 3rd quarter of classes. Time moves quite fast, isn’t it? Well, expect a new set of
lessons for this quarter so better prepare yourself for tons of learning. Do your best and good luck!
Shapes have been introduced to us ever since we started our school days. And now, for the following weeks, we
are going to take a deeper look on these shapes.

II. OBJECTIVES OF THE LESSON

At the end of the lesson, you are expected to achieve the following:
1. describes and draws parallel, intersecting, and perpendicular lines using ruler and set square; and
2. describes and illustrates different angles (right, acute, and obtuse) using models.

III. DISCUSSION AND SELF-CHECK

When we talk about shapes in an advanced manner, the chances are, geometry would come in. So, what is
geometry?
Geometry is a branch of mathematics that deals with the study of size, shape, position, and other properties of
things around us. It came from two different Greek words: “geo” which means Earth and “metron” which means measurement.
Before we proceed onto the geometric figures, try to figure out the different descriptions and illustrations of the
following geometric ideas located on page 242 – 243.
1. Point
2. Line
3. Line segment
4. Ray
5. Angle
6. Plane
Those geometric ideas are commonly illustrated through a line, right? Now then, we’ll jump now onto the different
kinds of line that you will encounter throughout this lesson. Proceed on to page 244 and find the different descriptions and
illustrations of each line.
1. Parallel line
2. Intersecting line
3. Perpendicular line
The lines that you’ve just figured out commonly used to visualize different angles. What are angles? Angles tend to
be a space (usually measured in degrees) between two intersecting lines or surfaces at or close to the point where they meet.
There are 5 common angles that we’ll tackle, so please proceed on to page 245 and try to identify the following angles.
1. Acute angle
2. Right angle
3. Obtuse angle
4. Straight angle
5. Reflex angle

Self-check
Well, that should be all for this 2 weeks of discussion. Now then, let us try to reflect on your learning first before we
proceed to this lesson’s activity. Take the following questions as your guide.
1. Am I now able to identify the different parts of a geometric figure?

2. Can I differentiate the visualizations of lines?
3. Can I identify the type of an angle illustrated?

IV. EVALUATION
For this lesson’s last activity, answer the Reinforce Activity B and C located on Page 249 – 251.
