We form the plural of most nouns by adding –s to the end of the word:

We add –es to nouns which end in –sh, -ch, -s, -x: a man
a box – boxes a sandwich – sandwiches a woman
We substitute -y after consonant with –ies...: a mouse
a lady – ladies a fish
...or we add -s after vowel y: a foot
a day – days a person
For most nouns which end in -f or –fe, -f, fe becomes –ves: a tooth
a leaf – leaves a shelf – shelves a sheepchildren
Nouns on -o form the plural by adding -s or –es: men
