I. INTRODUCTION
English has always been one of the official languages of the Philippines. It is the language of
commerce and law, as well as the primary medium of instruction in some learning areas such as
Math and Science. English is said to be the international language which is being mastered by
some so they may communicate and understand others from around the globe. Hence,
improving the teaching and learning process, developing it as a vital skill of the workforce is
being closely monitored by the Department of Education. Enhancing the reading and
comprehension skills of Filipino learners through the different programs is the major key to
eradicate non-readers and heighten the proficiency level in English language

This academic year proved to be not an easy one with the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the
world. Both teachers and learners struggle in coping with the needs of the new normal set up.
Still, the Jose Frencillo Elementary School deemed it’s important to somehow contribute to the
development of learning strategies and learners’ skills in English.

II. Staff Development

English teachers of Jose Frencillo Elementary School were able to attend the District Learning
Action Cell for English Teachers on Managing Interrupted Face to Face Instruction wherein the
teachers teaching English upscale the teaching strategies in times like these. Attached are the
pictures and outputs of from the training obtained:
III.PUPILS' DEVELOPMENT
The pandemic started last year and it made school to freezes its activities, that’s why Jose
Frencillo Elementary School also conducted remedial classes to every struggling readers and
non-readers.

IV. CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
1. Make Learning Activity Sheets for the first week of Quarter I of S.Y.2020-2021
2. Prepared summative tests for the school year round
3. Used ICT in teaching specially in this time
4. Monitored the distribution and retrieval of LAS

V. PROBLEMS MET

1. Poor study habit of the pupils especially in this situation


2. reading ability of the pupils’ decline.

VI. SOLUTIONS/RECOMMENDATIONS:

1. Conduct reading programs to cater the needs of our struggling learners


2. Conduct LAC session to the parents
3. Teachers must have weekly reading monitoring and an anecdotal record.
