The relevant electrical interfaces for body manufacturers are located on the ASAM (Advanced
Sensor and Actuator Module) control unit in the electrical compartment in front of the front
passenger seat.
The body manufacturer interfaces are designed for picking up the most important electrical signals
for adaptation of a body and for actuating indicator lamps in the multimedia cockpit (J6B/J6C).
The ASAM outputs have internal, electronic current limitation.
The diagrams below show the installation location and assignment of the body interfaces.
Position of plugs X2.52 (1) and X11.52 (2) on the ASAM (A7) in the electrical compartment in front of the front passenger seat
Installation location of plug X15 in the PDM cabin (A8): behind front-end flap (diagram shows
left-hand-drive vehicle)
The current consumption of all electrical consumers connected to plug X15 must not exceed 10 A.
To connect additional electrical consumers on the chassis, connections X11 and X12 are provided
on the PDM chassis (power distributor Plus).
Depending on the vehicle and equipment, the PDM chassis is installed at various different locations
on the vehicle.
Electrical consumers with a maximum current consumption of 40 A can be connected to interface
X11 and electrical consumers with a maximum current consumption of 200 A can be connected to
interface X12 (max. 250 A for 60 seconds).
Interface X11 is designed for fuses of type SF30 and interface X12 is designed for fuses of type
SF51.
Note: The current consumption of all electrical consumers connected to X11 and X12 must not
exceed a total of 200 A (250 A for 60 seconds).
The ground return conductor for the electrical consumers must be routed via the 6-mm additional
threaded pin on the negative battery clamp. In vehicles with a central ground box, the electrical
consumers must be connected to the ground box.

The Actros 5 and Arocs 5 (Bm 963/964) model series are equipped as standard with compressed
air distribution strips for auxiliary consumers in the cab and on the chassis.
The compressed air distributor in the cab is located under the driver's seat.
The compressed air distribution strip on the chassis is located in the area of the EAP-U
(compressed-air drier). Depending on the equipment, the EAP-U is located on the left of the frame
or in the area of the first crossmember after the transmission.
The compressed air distributors are made from multiple, individual segments.
At least one free slot is available for the body manufacturer.
The maximum available pressure on the compressed air distribution strips is 8.5 bar (output 24
EAP-U).

The scope of supply comprises a factory-mounted angle bracket on the left and right longitudinal
frame member in the area behind the cab. In combination with the C5G fasteners, this makes it
easier to set up a suitable loading crane and ensures shear-resistant attachment. It may no longer
be necessary to assemble/disassemble major assemblies (e.g. AdBlue reservoir, exhaust gas box,
battery carrier, etc.) or fabricate and mount a suitable angle bracket / crane plates and lower flange
reinforcement.
Technical information on assembling a loading crane in combination with the crane plates installed
ex works can be found in Book II of the Mercedes-Benz body/equipment mounting directives for the
Actros 5 and Arocs (963.x / 964.x) model series.
Information on the exact installation position of the crane plates on the vehicle can be found on the
2D chassis drawings on the Mercedes-Benz Bodybuilder Portal.
Detailed information on the geometric design of the crane plates can be found in "MB-Truck
Aufbaukonsolen Detailzeichnungskatalog" (currently available in German only) on the Mercedes-
Benz Bodybuilder Portal.
Example: attaching parts for the loading crane behind the cab
Due to the numerous potential combinations of vehicle type, crane, total crane torque, support type, subframe
design, stability, etc., it is not possible to specify a maximum permissible total crane torque for the C5G
attaching parts.
The off-road capability of four-axle vehicles may be limited by the reduced spring travel on the second front axle.
The scope of supply comprises factory-mounted consoles throughout and shackles for the positive-
fit, shear-resistant attachment of a body assembly frame. The material strength of the attaching
parts depends on the technically permissible gross vehicle weight.
The installation positions of the attaching parts are shown on the 2D chassis drawings.
Detailed information on the geometric design of the attaching parts can be found in "MB-Truck
Aufbaukonsolen Detailzeichnungskatalog" (currently available in German only) on the Mercedes-
Benz Bodybuilder Portal.
Detailed technical information about the shear-resistant body mounting can be found in Chapter "Body
mounting" in Book II of the Mercedes-Benz body/equipment mounting directive for the Actros 5 / Arocs 5.

Benz Bodybuilder Portal.
Further information on shear-resistant body mounting can be found in Chapter "Body mounting" in Book II of the
Mercedes-Benz body/equipment mounting directive for the Actros 5 / Arocs 5.
Continuous reinforcing brackets – from the first crossmember after the transmission to the crossmember after
the trailing axle – are currently installed only in the 6x2 low-frame chassis (Bm963.021) with wheelbase 4900
(C2U) in combination with equipment "C7P – Free space for swap bodies, low-frame".
The chassis is specially designed for the requirements of rear-loader refuse collection bodies.
On steel-sprung vehicles, the end crossmember is indented by around 350 mm so that the frame
overhang can be adjusted more easily. Air-sprung vehicles are shipped without an end
crossmember. In this case, however, the last crossmember in the frame tail is reinforced.
An end crossmember does not normally have to be retrofitted on refuse collection bodies with rear
loader.
The extended scope of supply includes vehicle-dependent frame reinforcements, easy-to-remove
transmission support arms (G0R) and the frequent-stop brake (B1X), as well as the omission of the
rear underride guard (C9Y) with tail lamps temporarily mounted on the frame tail.
With code C5H, body attaching parts for shear-resistant body mounting on the chassis can also be
shipped ex works. The body attaching parts are not shipped in the case of equipment C9S.
Frame overhang C5N for air-sprung vehicles (example: Frame overhang C5N for steel-sprung vehicles
964.022) (example: 964.000)
Detailed technical information on the design of the frame overhang can be found in Book II of the Mercedes-
Benz body/equipment mounting directive for the Actros 5 and Arocs 5 model series.
The pre-installation includes a reinforced coupling jaw carrier with two screw points (M24x2) in the
crossmember and two attachment surfaces with fastening threads (M20x1.5) in the area in front of
the lower cooling module.
Mounting plates for special attachments (e.g. snowplows, brooms, spraying equipment, etc.) can be
attached at the fastening points.
Two variants are available for the lower attachment surfaces "B". "Variant 1" or "variant 2" is
installed depending on the vehicle model, cab body floor height and engine. The two variants differ
in terms of their installation position on the vehicle and the geometric design of the lower fastening
points.
Note: For the attachment of front supports, the CTT equipment "JCCE - Frame reinforcement for
front support, 2x60 kN" is also required.

An overview showing which equipment combinations require "variant 1" or "variant 2" in the vehicle and further
detailed technical information on the installation of front attachments can be found in Book II of the current
Mercedes-Benz body/equipment mounting directive for the Actros 5 and Arocs 5 model series.
The vehicle is prepared ex works for a fully enclosed swap body without subframe (solutions
provided by the body manufacturer may differ). On the left side, the EAP-U is moved in between the
longitudinal frame members, which frees up space on the outside for the twist-lock latches.
Information on the dimensions on the vehicle can be found on the relevant 2D chassis drawings on
the Mercedes-Benz Bodybuilder Portal
Free space for swap bodies, low-frame Assembly example with free space for swap body
On model designation 963 in the x direction, the free space for the crane support feet is approx.
600 mm.
On model designation 964, the free space is approx. 500 mm because the front axle is shifted back
as standard by 100 mm.
For most vehicles, the equipment is available only in combination with "battery carrier, batteries
above each other" (C7K). The equipment can be combined ex works with the fasteners for the
loading crane (code C5G).
The equipment may mean that the body manufacturer does not have to perform extensive and
costly conversion work because the required free space is created ex works. To create more free
space for crane support feet, it may be necessary to move the battery carrier and exhaust system
later on again.
Information on the dimensions on the vehicle can be found on the 2D chassis drawings on the
Mercedes-Benz Bodybuilder Portal.

The equipment can be ordered for selected vehicles of the Actros 5 and Arocs 5 (Bm 963/964)
model series.
The rear-axle fenders comprise three sections. Upon request, they are available with EU splash
guard (code C8H) or without EU splash guard (code C8G).
The component parts are mounted such that the specified vehicle width is not exceeded (dimension
beyond outer fender edges).
For semi-trailer trucks, a lower rear-axle fender center piece can additionally be ordered with code
C8M. With code C8M, and depending on the tires, the fender center piece is lowered by as much as
30 mm.
For selected semi-trailer and platform model designations requiring a higher fender center piece
due to the vehicle design, a fender center piece raised by around 30 mm can be added
automatically with equipment code C9A.
This equipment is recommended in particular if body-specific attaching parts are installed by the
body manufacturer and the mounting consoles and shackles installed as standard are not used.
Note: In the case of 4-axle chassis with 2 steered front axles, the first mounting supports/shackles
on the left and right of the longitudinal frame member are installed despite the omission of
attaching parts.
With CTT, the first attaching parts can also be omitted with selected 4-axle chassis.
4-axle chassis with 2 steered front axles (Bm964.x3x) and C9S - Omission of attaching parts, on frame: The first mounting
supports/shackles are always mounted, including with code C9S.
In the case of 4-axle chassis with 2 steered front axles, the first mounting supports/shackles on the left and
right of the longitudinal frame member are always installed despite the omission of attaching parts. It
would take a great deal of time and effort to retrofit these body attaching parts due to the steering components
for the second front axle.
The pre-installation for the trailer coupling reduces the conversion time for the body manufacturer
and also ensures the quality of the conversion work.
The package includes the following:
Bolted crossmember in the overhang for attaching the trailer coupling
Trailer brake connections on the frame overhang, shifted to the right
Electrical wiring harness prepared for installation, plug X177.4 in the frame overhang on the right

The equipment can be ordered for vehicles of the Actros 5 and Arocs 5 (Bm 963/964) model
series in combination with Stability Control Assist "code S1D" .
For vehicles with Stability Control Assist, it is recommended that the high-load parameter in the
Stability Control Assist control unit be adjusted in line with the routinely occurring or permanent
load case. The crucial factor here is the overall center of gravity of the vehicle as determined by the
body manufacturer (vehicle with attachment/body including payload).
With the two equipment codes E0V and E0W, the high-load parameter can be adjusted ex works in
the Stability Control Assist control unit (ESP®) in line with the expected load case of the vehicle
with body.
This means that parameterization performed at a later date by a Mercedes-Benz service partner is
not necessary.
Example: load cases for Actros and Arocs platform, dumper and concrete mixer
chassis
Further information on setting the high-load parameter can be found in Chapter "Stability Control Assist, ESP®"
in Book II of the current Mercedes-Benz body/equipment mounting directive for the Actros 5 and Arocs 5 model
series.
The electrical lines for the 12 V connecting point are routed from the 24 V / 12 V voltage converter
to the CC interface (cab/chassis interface) on plug X81.15 behind the front-end flap.

The new parameterizable special module is an SAM with additional function (XMC) and acts as an
interface between the vehicle and body.
The new parameterizable special module is an SAM with additional function and is therefore also referred to as
the control unit XMC.
The equipment can be ordered for vehicles of the Actros 5 and Arocs 5 (Bm 963/964) model
series.
The standardized interface is an electronic communication connection for fleet management
systems from various different manufacturers. Via the FMS interface, vehicle-internal CAN data can
be converted to standardized SAE J1939 format and transferred to the relevant fleet management
system.
The data content of the interface is defined in detail and agreed upon among the manufacturers.
This means that various different fleet management systems can analyze the recorded vehicle data
from the named manufacturers easily and for all brands. The electrical interface (X167) is located in
a DIN installation opening above the driver's seat.
Depending on the vehicle version, the following data can be called up via the FMS interface in
accordance with the FMS 3.0 standard:
The equipment is not suitable for use with FleetBoard; the FleetBoard pre-installation (J9C) is required for this.
Parallel operation of FleetBoard and FMS is possible. Circuit diagram: PE82.85-W-2006F
The equipment can be ordered for selected chassis of the Actros 5 (Bm 963) model series.
With equipment E4E, the vehicle engine – when the vehicle is at a standstill – can be started and
stopped by the body electronics regardless of whether or not the cab is locked. The function is
useful for e.g. refrigeration units powered by the vehicle engine.
The second-generation PSM / XMC (code E3W) is required for communication between the body
and vehicle.
If the engine is started via the body electronics, the transmission remains locked, which means that
the vehicle cannot be moved in this status.
The engine can be stopped at any time via the start/stop button. To ensure that the ignition can be
switched on by the body controller when the vehicle engine has been stopped, wake-capable pin 37
on plug X1.40 of the PSM/XMC must be energized with a 24 V signal.
This activates terminal 15 in the vehicle.
After a waiting time of at least 5 seconds, an external engine start via the body controller can be
requested.
After 30 minutes, the engine is stopped and terminal 15 is deactivated again.
The standard, programmed shutdown time can be set in the control unit parameters.
Further information on equipment E4E can be found in Chapter 8 "Electrics/electronics" in Book II of the current
Mercedes-Benz body/equipment mounting directive for the Actros 5 and Arocs 5 model series.
Note: To ensure that the switch indicator lamp functions, pin X82.14 must be connected to ground.
Depending on the equipment, the equipment can be ordered for all chassis of the Actros 5 and
Arocs 5 (Bm 963/964) model series.
With the pre-installations, electrical consumers with an operating voltage of 24 V and current
consumption of up to 20 A can be connected in/on the cab or body.
The fused electrical lines for the 24 V connecting points are routed from the load switch on the
instrument panel to the CC interface on plugs X81.15 and X82.40 behind the front-end flap.

the steering column the steering column
Note: With parallel/simultaneous usage of switch no. 2 (E5B) and switch no. 3 (E5C), only an overall current of
20 A can be tapped for both switches (joint use of 20 A fuse).
The equipment can be ordered for vehicles of the Actros 5 and Arocs 5 (Bm 963/964) model
series.
With equipment E5F, an emergency stop switch for the body manufacturer is integrated in the
instrument panel and the electrical lines are routed to the CC interface on plug X82.40 behind the
front-end flap. Since the emergency stop switch is installed ex works, it will not be necessary to
remove the instrument panel for additional line installation.
The emergency stop switch is designed for shutting down the body in an emergency situation.
It functions as a pushbutton switch, i.e. the emergency stop function can be triggered simply by
pressing it. Reactivation is possible only by unlocking (turning) the emergency stop switch.
The emergency stop switch may be energized up to max. 200 mA and is designed only for the use of relays or
control unit inputs.
The equipment can be ordered for selected vehicles of the Actros 5 and Arocs 5 (Bm 963/964)
model series.
With equipment E5L, an additional switch module (A85), which can be easily reached by the driver,
is installed on the instrument panel ex works.
The additional switch module means that the number of slots for mechanical retrofit switches in
combination with the multimedia cockpit (J6B/J6C) can be increased.
Up to four original Mercedes-Benz load and signal switches can be used in the switch module.
When load switches are retrofitted, the body manufacturer / conversion specialist must also install
the wiring for the switch.
When signal switches are used, further parameterization must be performed in the relevant control
units by the Mercedes-Benz Service team.
It is not possible to actuate function outputs for the ASAM or PSM in parallel via signal switches and a virtual
switch in the multimedia cockpit (J6B/J6C). Only one switch identifier can be assigned to a function output at
any one time.
Chassis designed for use with fully enclosed swap bodies: When you order code E7B, the position of
the work lamp (code L3A) on the cab rear panel is optimized and an electrical interface is pre-
installed on the frame end for connecting additional headlamps.
The work lamp (L3A) on the cab rear panel is positioned lower, which means that it throws light
under the fully enclosed swap body and no shadows are cast in the area of the support feet. The
work lamp is also offset to the side so that it throws light beyond the fully enclosed swap body end
stop.
To retrofit additional work lamps, an electrical wiring harness is routed in the longitudinal frame
member to plug X155.2 on the right tail lamp holder.
The work lamps provided with equipment packages L3A and E7B are actuated via a common switch
in the cab.
The total current consumption for E7B in combination with L3A is 10 A. The headlamp with code L3A is
equipped ex works with a bulb (H3 24 V / 70 W).
The equipment can be ordered for selected chassis of the Actros 5 (Bm 963) model series.
The pre-installation is the basis for connecting a second operating unit for controlling the air
suspension outside the cab (e.g. in the box body).
The pre-installation scope includes the LIN bus wiring to the cab/chassis separating point on plug
X82.40 (pins 1–3) behind the front-end flap.
The second operating unit is not included in the scope of supply, although it can be purchased via
the Mercedes-Benz replacement part service team. Depending on the vehicle equipment, an
operating unit for full/partial air suspension must be installed. The connected, additional operating
unit also has to be registered by the Mercedes-Benz service partner with the XENTRY vehicle
diagnosis system in the on-board electronics.
The system will work as soon as the second operating unit is activated. An additional pushbutton
switch on the instrument panel is not required.
Installation position of body plug X82 on the CC Example: second operating unit

Further information on activating the second operating unit and the function of the level control system when the
ignition is off can be found in the operator's manual for the vehicle.
The equipment can be ordered for selected chassis of the Actros 5 and Arocs 5 (Bm 963/964)
model series.
The pre-installation for electrical equipment comprises tension bolts for terminals 30 (+) and 31 (-) in
the cab and for the power supply of additional 24 V consumers with a current consumption of up to
80 A. The pre-installation is suitable for retrofitting additional electrical consumers with current
consumption > 10 A in the cab.
The scope of equipment supply includes the following:
Electrical fuse (80 A) at connection X5 of the PDM chassis (power distributor Plus)

The pre-installation enables the subsequent connection of up to two rotating beacons. It includes
the entire wiring and the associated switch on the instrument panel.
The subharness with plugs X1.1 and X2.1 is routed up to the roof paneling next to the roof hatch
above the driver's seat and fused with 10 A.
Note: Rotating beacons installed in combination with the outside-mirror camera system (code F6T)
may, depending on the design, impair its function.
The retrofitting of rotating beacons in combination with the outside-mirror camera system is
possible only if certain technical prerequisites are fulfilled. If rotating beacons are not retrofitted
properly, this can impair the function of the outside-mirror camera system. Further information can
be found in Chapter 8.5.2 "Pre-installation for lamp mounting" in Book II of the Mercedes-Benz
body/equipment mounting directive for Actros 5 and Arocs 5.
The installation location of the connectors for the rotating beacons varies depending on the cab and roof variant.

locations) with rivet nuts M5x12 as per MBN13024-A (item number: N913024005103). Other installation
locations must be clarified beforehand with the development department responsible.
The pre-installation makes it easier to retrofit additional headlamps on the front of the vehicle. It
includes the entire wiring up to the CC interface (plug X83.15), a relay module and a switch on the
instrument panel for switching over to the additional headlamps.
