Enhancements in Field Application

1. Field Application accessible over Public Internet


• Field Application is now accessible over public internet without the dependency of domain device
and network.
• Key Advantages:
o Accessibility over public internet.
o No dependency of domain device (hardware). Users can use any Windows 8.1 or
Windows 10 device (Toughpad/Laptop/Desktop) compatible with Java JRE 64 Bit version.
o No dependency of GSI domain network. Users can use public internet/WIFI/mobile
hotspots to connect to Field Application and collect/sync data.
• For using the Field Application over Public Internet:
o Users have to login using a different credential which is only applicable for Field
Application.
o This will be separate from the current OCBIS Portal credential.
o Users will be communicated a default password for first time login.
o On first time login, users will be prompted to change the default Field Application
password.
o There will be option for users to change their Field Application password.
• The existing process of using the Field Application on domain device and domain network with
Single Sign On facility would still be available for use.

2. Field Application Launcher


• Field Application Launcher is introduced to perform the pre-requisite checks before launching
Field Application.
• Key Advantages:
o The launcher will perform the basic pre-requisite checks which is required to successfully
launch the field application.
o Java JRE installation check is performed.
o Compatible Java JRE version v1.8.0_101 64Bit version check is performed.
o Java Security Configuration check is done and configured automatically if not available.
o Launcher shows Field Application Server connectivity (Online/Offline)
o Separate option to launch the field application in two different processes:
▪ By using the existing process of using OCBIS Portal credentials. For this, User
should be logged in using OCBIS credentials on domain registered device and
domain network.
▪ By using the new process of using Field Application credentials. For this, User has
to login using Field Application credentials without any dependency on domain
device/network.
Download Field Application Launcher
Field Application Launcher can be downloaded from Bhukosh. Login to Bhukosh and navigate to FSP menu.
Click on ‘Download Field App Launcher’.

Using Field Application Launcher


Double click on Field App Launcher.exe to start.

On application start, it performs the pre-requisite checks in the background (takes approx. 1 minute on
stable network speed). The Pre-requisite Checklist provides the below information:

1. Java JRE Installation


2. Installed Java JRE Version
3. Java Security Configuration
4. Field Application Server Connection Mode

Launch Field Application provides 2 options to start the Field Application. The buttons ‘Using Portal
Password’ and ‘Using Field App Password’ are only enabled if the checklist is passed for above points 1,2
and 3.
On first time launch, Java will prompt for Update. Do not update the Java on the Field Device, as the Field
Application will run on a prescribed version of Java.

Check the checkbox ‘Do not ask again until the next update is available’ and Click on Later.

Security Warning pop up appears. Check the checkbox ‘I accept the risk and want to run the application’
and Click on Run.

Launch Field Application Using Portal Password – [EXISTING PROCESS]

Click on ‘Using Portal Password’ if user wants to use Field Application with below requirements:

1. Using domain hardware (laptop/desktop/tough pad)


2. Using domain network (gsi.gov.in)
3. Single Sign On by using the Portal Password

This will launch the Field Application without the need of entering Username/Password. If user has built
Field Packages for multiple assigned FSP IDs, then the user must choose one FSP ID and Click on OK.
Launch Field Application Using Field App Password – [NEW PROCESS]

Click on ‘Using Field App Password’ if user wants to use Field Application with below requirements:

1. No dependency on domain hardware (laptop/desktop/tough pad). Use any Windows 8 and above
Java compatible system
2. No dependency on domain network. Use any private or public network with internet connectivity.
3. Use separate Field App credential to login

This will launch the Field Application and will prompt to enter Username and Password.

Enter Employee ID as Username and Field Application Password. Click on Log On.
For first time login using the Field Application credentials, user must login using the Default Password.

The default password is sent to user’s registered email id, as shown below.

Note: In case user has not received or misplaced or do not remember the Field Application Default
Password, then there is a provision for the user to individually reset the Field Application Password with
OTP verification. Please refer to section ‘Reset Field Application Password’ in this reference guide.
If user has built Field Packages for multiple assigned FSP IDs, then the user must choose one FSP ID and
Click on OK.

If user has logged in using the Default Password, then below dialog will appear to ‘Change Default
Password’. User is advised to change the default password before proceeding further to use the Field
Application.
To change the default password, user must provide the New Password and Confirm Password.

The New Password and Confirm Password must be same. There is no password policy as such defined for
Field Application.

Please note that the password used for Field Application is different from OCBIS Portal. Changing this
password will not affect your OCBIS Portal password.

Click on ‘Change Password’ button.

Below popup message will appear once password is successfully changed. The application will
automatically close, and user must login again with the new password.
Change Field Application Password
Users can change their Field Application Password anytime while they are logged in to Field Application
in Online Mode. After launching the Field Application in Online Mode, navigate to Tools menu from top
toolbar. Click on Change Password button.

To change the Field Application Password, user must provide the Old Password, New Password and
Confirm Password.

The Old Password must match with the user’s current password.

The New Password and Confirm Password must be same. There is no password policy as such defined for
Field Application.

Please note that the password used for Field Application is different from OCBIS Portal. Changing this
password will not affect your OCBIS Portal password.

Click on ‘Change Password’ button.

Below popup message will appear once password is successfully changed. The application will
automatically close, and user must login again with the new password.
Reset Field Application Password
In case user has misplaced or do not remember the Field Application Password, then there is a provision
for the user to individually reset the Field Application Password with OTP verification.

Login to Bhukosh and navigate to FSP menu. Click on ‘Reset Field App Password’.

Reset Field Application Password window appears. User needs to provide the Password and Confirm
Password.

Password and Confirm Password must be same. There is no password policy as such defined for Field
Application.

Please note that the password used for Field Application is different from OCBIS Portal. Changing this
password will not affect your OCBIS Portal password.

Click on Reset Password.


Field Application Password Reset OTP is sent to user’s registered Email ID.

User enters the OTP and clicks on ‘Validate’ button.

Once the OTP is validated, below pop up will appear and Field Application Password is successfully reset.
Update Field Application Launcher
If a new version of Field Application Launcher is available for download, then after opening Field
Application Launcher below pop up message will appear.

User must download the latest version of Field Application Launcher to continue further.
Annexure A: Download Java JRE
To download Java (TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_101-b13), log on to OCBIS Portal. Navigate
to Home -> Download -> Training Materials.

Click on Download for Java JRE-8u101.

Note: Administrator privilege is required to install the software on the Field Device, please contact your
local Admin or Geodata Admin or Nodal Officer.
Annexure B: Java Security Site Configuration
For running the Field Application, a security setting must be applied in Java Control Panel for the log-in
user on the Field Device. This setting is to be configured whenever user logs on a new system (Field Device)
for the first time. Once done, the setting is stored against the user id for that specific device.

Open Java Control Panel, by windows search for ‘Configure Java’. Or go to windows Control Panel and
open Java.

The Java Control Panel will launch as below. Go to Security tab.

Click on Edit Site List.


Click on Add.
Type the URL in the text box as ‘http://fieldapp.gsi.gov.in/’ and Click on OK.

Click on Continue.

The entry of the URL appears in the Exception Site List. Click on OK and close the window.
If the user has not performed the Java Security setting in the Java Control Panel, then below screen of
Field Application being blocked by Java Security will pop up after start of Field Application.
