men and women pay is a frequent misconception. Gender bias plays a huge
role with the majority of these factors. Gender pay gap exists even in

relies on the choices made are illogical due to the fact that occupations and
career choices are shaped by societal norms. In selected areas, if the pay

household parenting is a huge factor to the jobs and career choices that
women consider and make. The report states that the gender pay gap is

below the poverty line. One of the participants expressed that gender should
not be a tax. The frequency with which female consumers find themselves
expressed that the pink tax only benefits the companies and not the citizens.
Most of the participants see the pink tax as unnecessary and it just causes
a divide amongst the poor and the rich. Because of the pink tax, women,

The Pink Tax does not only exist in several countries, but it also
exists in the Philippines as well. It was considered as a gender pay gap that
contributes to lifelong poverty which the women are most likely to suffer
services. The Pink Tax is a phenomenon that women may or may not even
be aware of. Along with the minimum wage that women earn, it may as well

jobs, and people’s expenses. To address the said issues, the respondents
stated that raising awareness may be done. They argued that the pink tax

INTERVIEW NO. 1
- START OF INTERVIEW –
I’m just gonna give you a brief background of our study, so you can be
familiar with our topic. The Pink Tax is a phenomenon that directly affects
women. It is where prices on gender-based products for women are
significantly higher than those for men.
That’s that, For the first set of questions, this is going to be about the SOP
1 of our study which is the background knowledge about the pink tax. So
first question, are you aware of the pink tax? How does it affect the minimum
wage of a person.
ok, uhm actually di ako familiar sa pink tax, and sinearch ko pa sya
bago ko sya ma encounter. Ano yung pangalang question pre?
Oo
Of a person, oo
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 101

STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
Ah ok. Ano kase since mas mahal nga yung… mas mahal yung mga
Kung… personally, as a
women I…
Ok, next question. Does your family know about the pink tax and how it
affects the minimum wage of a person? If so, what’s your opinion about
this.
Next question. Knowing that pink tax affects the minimum wage of a person,
what do you think can be a solution for this dilemma.
Ako as…
ko kailangan nilang maging aware… about this… injustice.
Next question. Do you think that women will have purchasing power since
pink tax affects their minimum wage?
I think… ulet.
Do you think women will have purchasing power since pink tax affects their
minimum wage?
Uhm no, kase ang mga babae pag ako, personally ulet, pag Nakita
nilang maganda yung quality ng product… kahit mahal… go pa din

sila kase nga ayun nga nasubukan na nila yung isang product. Hindi
nila… dinidisregard nila yung price regardless of… ano man yung
Next question. Do you think that women should adjust themselves and
minimize their finances just to avoid the effects of pink tax? Example, buying
other razors instead of razors marketed to women because they are much
cheaper.
Again
Do you think that women should adjust themselves and minimize their
finances just to avoid the effects of pink tax?
Thank you for answering the questions, now continuing to the SOP 2 of our
study which is how society and media contribute to gender construction. So
first question. Do you follow the standards set by the society?
Why?
Because I’m aware of the standards and the… In the society alam ko
yung mga nangyayari sa society.
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 103
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
Okay… Next question. Were or are you only exposed to things are strictly
related to your gender or to what society expects from you?
But did or do you ever feel that there were standards that that were or are
set on you?
Yeah.
Kase I think ganun talaga nag wo-work yung… na merong… merong
gender role, babae at lalake may pag pagkakaiba, pagkakaparehas.
Pero I’m aware sa…
Okay, next question. Were or are you able to freely express yourself even
with the standards that the society has set on you? For example, physical
appearances, choices of clothes or things, manners, etc.
Again
Were or are you able to freely express yourself even with the standards that
the society has set on you?
Okay, next question. Would you say that media has contributed to your
gender identity/construction?
Okay, thank you for answering those questions, now we will proceed to the
economy vs moralities & principles questions. First questions: In a
marketing perspective, do you think manufacturers are successful in
utilizing the pink tax? Why do you say so?
Yes.
So as a women… as a woman, mas mae-enganyo ka
talaga. So I think ayun yung purpose nila bakit… bakit… mas mahal
yung products ng babae which is not necessary naman.
Okay, next question. in your opinion, how much does the pink tax affect
Filipino citizens? How do you say so?
How much… I think it greatly affects the Filipinos kase ano eh… etong
madaming unemployed dito sa pilipinas and… mas madaming… mas
affects the Filipinos kase… yung sa economy meron syang ano eh

Next question. Do you think the gender tax greatly contributes to the
economy of the Philippines?
Again.
Do you think that the gender tax greatly contributes to the economy of the
Philippines. Pink tax… the pink tax greatly contributes to the economy of
the Philippines.
Yeah, nakakaapekto
talaga sya sa economy ng pilipinas.
Okay, next question. If the pink tax is abolished, do you think there will be
a notable change in the Philippine economy?
Okay, next question. Do you think the pink tax has a significant role in
poverty here, in the Philippines?

Okay, next question. Would you still choose to abolish the pink tax if it

We will norw, we will now start asking the questions, okay so the first set of
questions would be about the background knowledge about the pink tax,
are you ready?
Okay yes
Your first question should be, Are you aware of the pink tax?
Yes

Okay proceed tayo sa pangatlong question, knowing that pink tax affects
the minimum wage of a person based sa sinabi mo kanina don sa basic
necessities, what do you think can be a solution for this dilemma?
Okay okay fourth question Do you think that women will have
less purchasing power since pink tax affects their minimum wage?
Purchasing power yung value or worth ng nabibili mo based sa dami ng
so yung value or worth niya magagamit ko siya since necessities yon pero
necessities so ang question don, Do you think that women will have

less purchasing power since marami tayong necessities since pink tax
affects their minimum wage? Yes or no?
OO, yes
Why?
Okay next question next question Do you think that women should adjust
themselves and minimize their finances just to avoid the effects of pink tax?
Oo
No kasi ano siya ano in short term unfair siya kasi parang yun nga

Hmm okay
Oh why not
Okay second question Were/are you only exposed to things that are strictly
related to your gender or to what your society expects from you?
Actually may pinilipili siyang may pinipiling place and may pinipiling
ka na parang ganto so not all the time pero most of the time may sense
ba yon?
Oo okay fourth question sa second set would you say that media has
contributed to your gender identity/construction? For example, influencers,
magazines, social networking sites
Ang kase kapag yun yung kasama mo growing up syempre yun yung
influence nila is parang ahh kung anong sinabi nilang tama or sinabi

Second question, In your opinion, how much does the pink tax affect Filipino
citizens?
Ano uhm from how greatly siya nakaka affect from dun sa first

mga minimum wage earners ba yon? So syempre yun nga kung isa
kang babae at minimum wage lang ang kinikita mo and kunwari ano

Okay third question, Do you think the gender tax greatly contributes to the
economy of the Philippines?
Same lang naman yung gender tax saka yung pink tax diba?
Oo yung economy na to includes profit that company makes from the pink
tax
If the pink tax is abolished, do you think there will be a notable change in
the Philippine economy?
siya siguro for minimum wage earners
Okay, Do you think the pink tax has a significant role in poverty here, in the
Philippines?
Oo
Okay last question, Would you still choose to abolish the pink tax if it
contributes to the economy despite its unfair gender-based tax and
promotion of gender construction?
Oo i would want talaga na ma abolish yung pink tax kase i mean kung

Are you aware of the pink tax? How does it affect the minimum wage of a
person?
Does your family know about pink tax and how it affects the minimum wage
of a person? if so, what's your opinion about this?
No. Because my family are always busy and doesn’t watch much
news.
Knowing that pink tax affects the minimum wage of a person, what do you
think can be a solution for this dilemma?
Do you think that women will have less purchasing power since pink tax
affects their minimum wage?
Not much.
Do you think that women should adjust themselves and minimize their
finances just to avoid the effects of pink tax? WHY?
No
Yes, because it is what others expect from you so you have to know
how to cope with it.
Were/are you only exposed to things that are strictly related to your gender
or to what your society expects from you?
No
But did/do you ever feel that there were standards that were/are set on you?
Were/are you able to freely express yourself even with the standards that
the society has set on you? For example, physical appearances, choice of
clothes or things, manners, etc
Yes
No
Yes, because the products for women are vast and it is already
common.
In your opinion, how much does the pink tax affect Filipino citizens? How
do you say so?
Since we are in a third-world country, not all women can buy women’s
products because their prices will go up and other women will have to
adapt to that. Since we are in a poor country and not all women can
buy products like skin care. And so, the people in the lower levels of
society will have a hard time adapting.
Do you think the gender tax greatly contributes to the economy of the
Philippines?
If the pink tax is abolished, do you think there will be a notable change in
the Philippine economy?
Yes, there may be for sure. But it will not be a great change in the
economic rate.
Do you think the pink tax has a significant role in poverty here, in the
Philippines?
Would you still choose to abolish the pink tax if it contributes to the economy

Parang for example you have 100 pesos tapos sa 100 pesos na yon as a
girl konti lang yung mabibili mo since mas matataas yung worth ng products
na meron ang babae then for guys sa 100 pesos na yon maraming products
na yung mabibili nila. So do you think na women will have less purchasing
power since pink tax affects their minimum wage?
Yes.
Uhm, yah just like you said nga minsan uhm kunwari eto lang yung
budget mo for the week and you have to put all your expenses to it
ganon kelangan mo ilista yung mga needs mo ganon tapos parang
since kelangan mo iprioritize needs mga mo tapos minsan di pa sya

Okay. Thank you! Do you think that women should adjust themselves and
minimize their finances just to avoid the effects of pink tax? And WHY?
Okay now for the set 2 of our questions its about How Society and Media
Contribute to Gender Construction. Now for the first question, do you follow
the standards set by society?
yung standards like pag sa pag pang babae pang babae lang ganon
Yah.
Uh. No. I actually ano, kung ano yung gusto kong gawin yun yung
ginagawa ko. Ano actually like one for my example is my pixie cut.
Gustong gusto ko magpa-pixie cut like since bata ako kase I think it
would look cool, it will look good on me tapos nung nagpa-cut ako ng
buhok parang sabi “ay anobayan muka kang lalake “ “ay anobayan
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 126
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
muka kang ano daw tibo”daw “ay anobayan muka kang kakagaling
lang daw sa breakup” ganon, tas parang sabi ko n”o I just think it
would look good on me” yung ganon so parang andami nilang sineset
talaga yon. Kaya yon pero wala I always wanted to do my own thing.
Next question. Were/are you only exposed to things that are strictly related
to your gender or to what your society expects from you?
Are you only exposed to things that are strictly related to your gender or to
what your society expects from you?
Hm, no. uhm Just like I said earlier gusto ko gawin yung mga gusto
like for example uhm parang kasing atleast saamin uhm kasi kapag
magbibike uhm acceptable sya for like all genders tas ‘pag labas ko
tahimik yung ganon tapos parang ano , I’ve ano sabi ko I’d constantly
battle against it kasi yun nga I just want to do my own thing tapos yung
kase I don’t wanna get into like into fights into conflicts. Uhm like
school yah uhm parang in a way sakin kase yun na yung parang naka
na dapat ganito ganyan noh kahit sa school and I came from a very
palda uhm 2 inches below the knee tapos dapat yung hair laging naka-
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 127
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
ipit laging ganon tapos parang one time yun nga nagpa-pixie cut ako
uhm yung mga teachers ko especially there was this one teacher she
was like “bakit ka nagpagupit?” ano ganyan ganyan “muka kang
sa ano uhm standards for men na dapat bawal yung ganyang
ako nagpapa-trim ganon so na-expose ako in both pero I would want
to do my own thing at the end.
Next question, Were/are you able to freely express yourself even with the
standards that the society has set on you? For example, physical
appearances, choice of clothes or things, manners, etc.
Uhm, yeah. Uhm dati nung bata ako like especially when I was like uh
9? 9 to 11.
we all grew up in like this one compound sa subdivision namen tapos
parang they frown at femininity basta in like in femininity ‘pag kunwari
yung pink ganon, uhm they frown upon it. Tapos parang sabi ko
parang nafeel ko tuloy noon na “I need to keep up” na kelangan ko
maging “siga” kelangan ko maging uhm pano ba I need to like I need
to do things in their own way para ano para ma-accept ako pero as
time goes by parang sabi ko “I don’t want this anymore” kasi dati mag
aayos lang magcocologne lang naiirita ako kase “pambabae yan”
ganon sinasabi ko pero nung pag parang as yun nga parang mas
lumalaki na ganon parang narealize ko na ano I should do what I want
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 128
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
for a change yung ganon tas parang yon ever since non, uhm I tried
to like uh to do my own thing naman yon yung parang yun yung
promise ko sa sarili ko like I started in clothes uhm I started wearing
especially yung di ko close parang they feel like they have a say on it.
they would really hurt me off yung parang pati ba naman dito may
masasabi sila tas parang ever since non dun ko narealize na kahit
anong gawin mo may masasabi yung tao. Kaya non parang nawalan
ako ng pake, siguro I was like 12? Or 11 ganon? Yah tapos parang
Pero syempre uhm I would still uh retain some of my uhm
boyish cut, “boyish. Like samin kase pag naglalaro ka ng games
kunwari sa playstation ganon parang pang lalake lang daw yon pero
ako parang like nag eenjoy ako sa paglalaro eh yung ganon so why
wouldn’t I get like, why wouldn’t I play yon, parang I constantly battle
Ok thankyou. Now nextquestion. Would you say that media has contributed
to your gender identity/construction? For example, influencers, magazines,
social networking sites.
hm yes naman. Uhm uh dati yung mga cool girl yan, alam nyo yung
trope na yon yung cool girl na parang they have to be like masculine
ganon tapos ma-aaccept sila ng guys tapos yun nga being uh feminine
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 129
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
is being frowned upon on. Parang dun ako lumaki. Tapos ano parang
narealize ko day by day parang, oo naman wala naman masama kung
uhm we grew up na parang masculine na parang cool yun nga wala
naming masama dun.
mga social media influencers or celebrities like si Nadine Lustre. One
time she posted herself in a bikini ba? Bikini ba? Or robe? Di ko na
matandaan basta andaming nagalit sakanya non kase parang tas
we’ve been fed by all of these lies na even that yung pagsusuot ni
Nadine or pagsusuot ng women in general kelangan may comment
kelangan ibabash yung ganon yah tapos uhm parang nalungkot din
ako non kay Nadine pero she’s very strong and she said ano parang
ano ba yun ata yung meme na 2019 ba? Or ibang issue yon? Ewan ko
ayon parang sabi nya na “I have a say in what I want to wear” yung
ganon parang wala akong pake sainyo ganon tas parang that’s very
media and still ngayon, sa ngayong year na toh na parang ano may
mga misogynistic ano traits, yes.
Now for the next set of questions, it’s all about economy vs. moralities and
principle. For the first question In a marketing perspective, do you think
manufacturers are successful in utilizing the pink tax? Why do you say so?
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 130
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
So for the next question, In your opinion, how much does the pink tax affect
Filipino citizens? How do you say so?
How much? Like, ah okay sorry.
dahil hindi naapektuhan ang mga lalake they just uh,we as a society,
brush it off.
So yah uhm wait uhm sorry yah andon pa din
sya so I think yah it’s very, wait nawala ako pwede paulit? Ohmygosh
nakakahiya pwedeng paulit nung question?
Okay sige. In your opinion, how much does the pink tax affect Filipino
citizens? How do you say so?
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 131
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
Okay, yun nga sobrang lake yun nga tapos parang siguro sa men
sobrang subtle lang ganon kase di nga nila nararamdaman di toh
nakaka-affect sa kanila kase nga yun nga ano we could say na
whereas sa mga babae naman sobrang lake, like for some this could
Okay, next question. Do you think the gender tax greatly contributes to the
economy of the Philippines?
Yup. Eto yung ano diba? For both na? Yes naman kase I don’t know
Like oo kase syempre dahil wala nga tayong
have to buy this ganon nabibili natin tong product na toh and in turn
pumupunta sya sa ano economy ng Philippines. Pero kase yung
mismong tayo as Filipino, as people, as humans, ang laki ng epekto
nito saten like ang damaging ganon parang unti-unti tapos kung
sasabihijn mo nga sa men parang ang subtle nga yah.
Next question. If the pink tax is abolished, do you think there will be a
notable change in the Philippine economy?
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 132
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
Thank you. Next question Do you think the pink tax has a significant role in
poverty here, in the Philippines?
Yes naman like what I said earlier ano parang we have no choice pero
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
people pano sila makakabili? like kaya sila, ay may nabasa akong
passage dati na parang “poor people remain poor because external
forces, force them to be poor” yung ganon parang ano parang lahat
,lahat ng external forces like kunwari uhm kunwari using blame like
yun nga yung pink tax laki ng ano nun kase kelangan, parang kelangan
we have this specific amount of money to buy this, so syempre yung
mga poor na tao they ano wala silang options wala silang choice so
ayun mag ni-need to suffer nga sila. Like tayong mga privileged na
babae atleast ano nabibili pa natin yung mga ano yung mga kunwari
tampons, napkins ganon pero pano sila? Like diba like they are less
to suffer and there’s no help so yah ang laki talaga ng malaki ang
contribution ng pink tax sa poverty.
So last question, would you still choose to abolish the pink tax if it
contributes to the economy despite its unfair gender-based tax and
promotion of gender construction?
Before we conclude this interview, do you have any questions for us?
Concerns? Violent Reactions?

For the background, The Pink Tax is a phenomenon that directly affects women.
It is where prices on gender-based products for women are significantly higher
than those for men.
For the first set of questions, it would be about the background knowledge
about the pink tax. First question, Are you aware of the pink tax?
Hindi talaga ako familiar sa term na pink tax pero I have observed na
may certain difference between female and male products.
Hmm. Well, minimum wage. Well, napansin ko uh, I have two older
siblings kase, ate at kuya and they are both working and minsan pag
even though they buy the same things for themselves.
So Does your family know about pink tax and how it affects the minimum
wage of a person?
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 137
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
Hmmm. Personally, hindi ko alam. Kase they’re not, it’s either sila sila,
they mind their own businesses or as a group yung binibili. So di ko
napapansin, personally.
So knowing that pink tax affects the minimum wage of a person, what do
you think can be a solution for this dilemma?
So do you think that women will have less purchasing power since pink tax
affects their minimum wage?
Do you think that women will have less purchasing power since pink tax
affects their minimum wage?
Do you think that women should adjust themselves and minimize their
finances just to avoid the effects of pink tax? And WHY?
Okay, uh. Personally, I feel like they shouldn’t adjust but more like
explore under own options kase madami naman pwedeng bilhin eh.
It’s just marketing skin and part societal expectations na “since
pambabae toh dapat yun agad bibilhin mo” eh pwede naman, eh mas
mura pa yung sa kalalakihan. So, it’s parang both consumer and
company. Ganon. Gets ba? Sorry, sabog.

Okay set of questions naman is about how Society and Media Contribute to
Gender Construction. Now for the first question, do you follow the standards
set by society?
Question number 2, Were/are you only exposed to things that are strictly
related to your gender or to what your society expects from you?
Yes.
Hmmm. Growing up kase, I’ve always been with my mother and sister
so parang as long as I can remember, sinusurround na ako with
feminine things.
Are you able to freely express yourself even with the standards that the
society has set on you? For example, physical appearances, choice of
clothes or things, manners, etc.
Yes.
Hmmm. It’s more on parang becoming more open and aware sa mga
specific issues tulad nito. Kase most of the content creators I follow
are about criticizing and discussing social issues.
Okay, so for the next set of questions is about economy vs. moralities and
principles. So first question In a marketing perspective, do you think

Next question, In your opinion, how much does the pink tax affect Filipino

None for the Philippine economy but it would change for the people
mismo.
Do you think the pink tax has a significant role in poverty here, in the

Okay, question 3, knowing that the pink tax affect the minimum wage of a

I think-

I think the best way for me the to solve this dilemma is eradicate yung

De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 145

Okay, do you think that women will have less purchasing power since pink
tax affects their minimum wage?
Purchasing power is the value of currency expressed in terms of the amount
of goods or services that one unit of money can buy. So in simple terms,
purchasing power is the value or worth na nabibili mo based sa dami ng
products na kasya sa pera mo.
So for example, you have 100 pesos and as a girl sa 100 pesos na 'yon
may mabibili ka ng for example hygienic products like parang two packs of
uhh... napkin, so back to the question tayo so pag lalaki ka kasi if you have
question natin do you think that women will have less purchasing power
since the pink tax affects their minimum wage?
Uhh... uh... I-I think so kasi may mga uhm may mga necessities ang
mga products ng women so I think it does affect.
Okay last question 'to sa first set, do you think that women should adjust
themselves and minimize their finances just to avoid the effects of pink tax?
No, uhm it should be fair because uhm a lot of like you mentioned
why should women uh why should these things that women need are
restricted or bakit kailangan nalilimitahan yung uh women sa
pagspend ng money nila or yun nga things that they want just because

they need to spend it on things that they need when men doesn’t
experience it the same way.
Okay proceeding tayo sa second set of question, which is how society and
media contribute to gender construction? First question, do follow the
standard set by the society?
Okay second question, were or are u only exposed to the things that strictly
related to your gender or to what society expects from u?
Uhmm no uhh I have a lot of growing up, uhm close ako sa mga lalaki
kong pinsan so I am exposed to the things that they also do and get
involved with it sometimes
Okay but did u ever feel that there were standard that were set on u?
As uh as a girl?
Yes
okay third question were or are u able to freely express yourself even with
the standards the society has set on u for example physical appearances,
choice of clothes, or things, manner etc.
Uhm uh yes I think I am free naman pag dating dun sa mga especially
dun sa expression of clothes ko i think i am free i am able to freely
express myself that way
Okay would u say that media has contributed to your gender identity or
construction for example influencers magazines or social networking sites?
Okay
Okay second question, in your opinion how much does the pink tax affect

Ulit, in your opinion how much does the pink tax affect the Filipino citizens

Knowing that the pink tax, uh, affect the minimum wage of a person, what
do you think can be a solution for this dilemma?
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 154
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
women, parang mas madaming, mas madaming kaartehan, ganun.
Ok, uhh.
Do you think that women will have less purchasing power since pink tax
affects their minimum wage?
Uhh, yung purchasing power yung value of currency expressed in terms of
amount of goods that one unit of money can buy. In simple terms, uhh, this
is the value or worth ng nabibili mo based sa dami ng products na kasya sa
pera mo.
Going back to the question, Do you think that women will have less
purchasing power since pink tax affects their minimum wage?
Mm, feeling ko hinde. Kasi if need talaga siya, bibilhin talaga siya,
ganun.
Ok, uh, do you think that women should adjust themselves and minimize
their finances, just to avoid the effects of the pink tax?
Ah, yes.
Feeling ko ano, hindi naman kase if you need it, you have to buy it eh.
bibilhin mo.
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 155
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
Mm, ok.
Moving on to the next set of questions.
It will be about how society and media, contribute to gender construction.
Uhh, the first question, do you follow the standards set by society?
Uhh, by standards, yung uh, what, uh, yung parang, uh, res-, uhm, yung
mga stereotypes for uhm, halimbawa, for a girl na ito lang dapat yung
pwedeng gawin ng babae.
Not really.
ganun.
Ok, uh, were or are you only exposed to things that are strictly related to
your gender, or to what your society expects from you?
Medyo ganon.
yon naaano sayo. Pwede mo bang maexplain?
Yung?
Uh, Na parang- yun lang yung exposed sayo. Yung ano na yon, yung mga
things na related to your gender.
Ok uh, were or are you able to freely express yourself even with the
standards society has set on you? UH, for example neto, physical
appearances, choice of clothes, or things, manners.
Like
kase yun yung freedom ko to express myself.
Ok. Uh,
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 157
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
Moving on. Would you say that media has contributed to your gender
identity or construction? For example, uh influencers, magazines, social
networking sites.
So sa social
media talaga ako namulat.
Ah ok.
Now the next set of questions will be about economy vs moralities and
principles.
First question, in a marketing perspective, do you think that manufacturers
are successful in utilizing the pink tax?
OK uh, in your opinion, how much does the pink tax affect the filipino
citizens?
Uh, in your opinion, how much does the pink tax affect, uh, filipino citizens?
So parang, ang hirap
Tapos yung minimum wage is mababa lang so mas mahirap siya
kapag ano- apektado talaga tayo.

Ok, uh, do you think the gender tax greatly contributes to the economy of

Uh, do you think the gender tax greatly contributes to the economy of the
philippines?
Then, if the pink tax is abolished, do you think there will be a notable change
in the philppine economy?
Uhm, I think there will be.
Ok, now, do you think the pink tax has a significant role in proverty here in
the philippines?
Uh, meron siguro, kase, since kung may pink tax nga, mas malaki
OK, uh for the last question, Would you still choose to abolish the pink tax

compared to pink tax because these items ( female oriented) are made
with more expensive raw materials.
Knowing that pink tax affects the minimum wage of a person, what do you
think can be a solution for this dilemma?
Do you think that women will have less purchasing power since pink tax
affects their minimum wage?
No, because it will not exist if no one wants to pay for it. If this pink
tax exists, then it means that women are willing to pay for it.
Do you think that women should adjust themselves and minimize their
finances just to avoid the effects of pink tax? WHY?
No, well it depends on what your social status is. If you can afford it
then yeah sure you can buy if tis expensive yeah go fit it if you cant
buy then don’t find other cheaper alternatives.
Were/are you only exposed to things that are strictly related to your gender
or to what your society expects from you?
Yes, these are circumstance are set when you confirm your identity.
Sometimes it can be pressure from parents or peers. That is when you

Yes I am aware.
Does your family know about pink tax and how it affects the minimum wage

Yes. Somewhat unfair because women earn less not all but uh
generally speaking women earn less and have to pay higher prices for
services and products and for hygiene products like tampons pads

and etc. but I think it is not that harmful because it has a connection

Knowing that pink tax affects the minimum wage of a person, what do you
think can be a solution for this dilemma?
None
Do you think that women will have less purchasing power since pink tax
affects their minimum wage?
Yes, since their salary is less compared to men and the products that
they need to buy is priced way higher so that I think they would affect
it.
Do you think that women should adjust themselves and minimize their
finances just to avoid the effects of pink tax? WHY?
For me, no. Because it is not actually our choice to experience periods
because it is natural that is explained by science. But we have to pay
extra for sanitary pads. I think that women shouldn’t adjust because
we were born this way.
Were/are you only exposed to things that are strictly related to your gender

Yes, not all products has tax so as a woman our products for periods
we buy them regularly and their demand is high so I think it greatly
contributes to the economy.
If the pink tax is abolished, do you think there will be a notable change in

I only have a gist idea about pink tax… uhm… like meron syang wage
gap between women and men. Yon.
Specially… not just a person but also for woman. Kase woman yung

Yes. Yes, yes. It’s truly obvious that the manufacturers have been

marami na ring nag ra-raise ng awareness about pink tax as I’ve said
about it and uhm… I feel naman na it’s really obvious, specially uhh…

color or pag ano, itong ano- specifically for women siya, for men siya,
wala, aaccept nalang na ganun yung ano.
Yes.
For your next question, uhh, do you think that women will have less
purchasing power since pink tax affect their minimum wage?
For
So back to the question, do you think that will have less purchasing power
because of the pink tax?

Uhh, for your next question do you think that women should adjust

pink tax?
Uhm, hinde.
Uh, why? Why do you say so?
Uhm, wait, bakit ano? Bakit kung ano sila noh? Sa-
Hin- Hinde.
women is less price sensitive so, yung mismong- dun na mismo sa
Ok.
Uhh, moving on. For the next set of questions it will be about how society
and media contribute to gender construction.
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 181
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

So yung gender construction yun yung standards ng- kung ano- how you
will act based on your gender.
So for your first question, do you follow the standards set by the society?
Hin- Hinde, kase ano eh, kapag finollow mo yun, ikaw lang yung
mappressure or what sa mga standards na inaano nila eh, sineset nila.
So why not ikaw nalang yung magset ng standard ng sarili mo kesa
yung mga people around you pa.
Ok.
Uhh, next, uhh were or are you only exposed to things that are strictly
related to your gender or to what your society expect from you?
iba, or naeexperience ng iba.
Ok.
For the next question, are you able to freely express yourself even you
know, with the standards that the society has set on you? For example
physical appearances, you know, choice of clothes, things, manners.
Uhh, are you able to freely express yourself even with the standards that
society has set? Example nito your physical appearances, choice of clothes,
things, uhh the way you should act.
Ok.
Ok- ok na.
Uh for your fir- fourth question, would you say that media has contributed to
your gender construction? For example, influencers, magazines, social
networking sites.
Mmm, siguro kase parang ano, uhm, ma- kapag nakikita mo yun
yung identity mo right now, ganon.
Ok.
Uhh, now for the next set of questions it will be about the economy and
principles.
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 183
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

Yes. Yes.
nila eh, so yun successful sila dun.
minamahalan nila, kahit yung pink tax inaaply nila.
Ok.
Uhh, in your opinion, how much the- how much do you think does the pink
tax affect filipino citizens?
So mas-
mabibili. Kaso yun merong tax so nacocompromise yung mabibili
nila.

ng uhm mga tao.

Okay proceeding to the first set of questions it will all be about the
background knowledge about the pink tax. Your first question would be Are
you aware of the pink tax?
Uhm tbh nalaman ko lang yung pink tax since nung sinabi mo sakin
na kukunin mo ko na respondent for your research then nagresearch
din ako onti about sa pink tax so nalaman ko lang siya nung nasabihan
mo na magiging respondent ako for your research
Syempre parang mas lugi yung sa womens kasi nga mas malaki yung
binabayaran nila when it comes to their hygiene yung mga ginagamit
nila for their hygiene then ayon parang mas nagiging unfair nga kasi
Uh second question, what about your family? Alam ba nila yung pink tax
and how it affects the minimum wage of a person?
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 189
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
Im not sure kasi ano hindi namin napapag usapan yung pink tax sa
house and ayon hindi ko din naman sila natatanong about don sa
issue na yon
Okay so Knowing that pink tax affects the minimum wage of a person based
dun sa answer mo kanina, what do you think can be a solution for this
dilemma?
ng isang term Purchasing power is the value of a currency expressed in
terms of the amount of goods or services that one unit of money can buy.
So in simplest terms, value or worth ng nabibili mo based sa dami ng
na kayong mabibili don, so ang question ko is, Do you think that women will
have less purchasing power since pink tax affects their minimum wage?
Oh sige

Sorry sorry
Yung sa last
mHm mhm
Okay do you think that women will have less purchasing power since pink
tax affects their minimum wage? Again yung purchasing power value or
worth ng nabibili mo based sa dami ng products na kasya sa pera mo so do
you think they will have less purchasing power since mas mahal pa yung
Okay last question to sa first part, Do you think that women should adjust
themselves and minimize their finances just to avoid the effects of pink tax?
No, kasi nga
Ay ay sorry
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 191

Uhmmmm grabe naman basta parang ano kaya kasi nga basta
kailangan nila bilhin nila kasi nga kailangan nila yon and mas mag uhh
daily needs or ano kasi kailangan mo siya pang-araw-araw so yun
So for the second set ng questions its about How Society and Media
Contribute to Gender Construction. Okay so first question, Do you follow
the standards set by the society?
Why?
So next question are you only exposed to things that are strictly related to
your gender or to what your society expects from you?
Okay next were you able to freely express yourself even with the standards
that the society has set on you? For example, physical appearances, choice
of clothes or things, manners, etc.
So last question dito sa second part ng q and a, would you say that the
media has contributed to your gender identity/construction? For example,
influencers, magazines, social networking sites.
Feel ko yes kasi mas kumikita sila kasi siyempre mas mataas yung
price edi mas kikita sila
Okay second question, In your opinion, how much does the pink tax affect
napapataas talaga yung gastos nila and mas madadagdagan yung
problema nila about don sa gastusin nila
Do you think the gender tax greatly contributes to the economy of the
Philippines? Yung economy includes profit that company makes from the
pink tax
Uhm yes kasi nga ano yon mas mataas nga yung kinikita and kumbaga
madami silang makukuha may narerecieve na money so ayon mas
maraming pera mas malaki yung economy

Okay If the pink tax is abolished, do you think there will be a notable change
in the Philippine economy?
Pa repeat po ulit
If the pink tax is abolished, do you think there will be a notable change in
the Philippine economy?
Second to the last question, do you think the pink tax has a significant role
in poverty here, in the Philippines?
Oo
Sige go go go
wala silang antawag dito wala silang enough money to buy those
Okay last question na to, Would you still choose to abolish the pink tax if it
contributes to the economy despite its unfair gender-based tax and
promotion of gender construction?
Abolish?
siguro tayo gusto impromote yung equality and diba tama naman
Oo sige go
natin na talaga lahat tayo pantay pantay dito and alam mo yon maayos
when it comes to economy kahit magkaroon siya ng epekto don pag

I’m just gonna give you a brief background of our study, so you can be
familiar with our topic. The Pink Tax is a phenomenon that directly affects
women. It is where prices on gender-based products for women are
significantly higher than those for men.
That’s that, For the first set of questions, this is going to be about the SOP
1 of our study which is the background knowledge about the pink tax. So
first question, are you aware of the pink tax? How does it affect the minimum
wage of a person.
How about your family? Does your family know about the pink tax and how
it affects the minimum wage of a person? If so, what’s your opinion about
this.
Thank you. Knowing that the pink tax affects the minimum wage of a person,
what do you think can be a solution for this dilemma?
Ahh… siguro ano it’s either uhh… babaan? Yung prices as in equal
lang yung prices for any kind of product na that requires both male
and female or something like that. Or kaya i-lessen na lang yung
gender based na pag presyo and siguro uhh… ipantay yung sa male
Next question. Do you think women will have less purchasing power since
pink tax affects their minimum wage?
Do you think women will have less purchasing power since pink tax affects
their minimum wage?
For sure… for sure.
difference pagdating sa guy and… man and women’s products. May
ganun nung prices so siguro naaapektuhan talaga.
Next question. Do you think that women should adjust themselves and
minimize their finances just to avoid the effects of pink tax.
Thank you for answering those questions. Now continuing to the SOP2 of
our study which is how society and media contribute to gender construction.
So first question. Do you follow the standards set by the society.
It depends kung tama… kung tama ba yun or hinde. Or what I think it’s
right or wrong? Which is mostly naman uhh… daming na cocontribute
Which is parang a lot or
more people are educated now, which is great.
Okay, next question. Were/are you only exposed to things that are strictly

Not really.

So next question were/are you able to freely express yourself even with the
standards that the society has set on you? For example: physical
appearances, choices of clothes, things, manners and etc.
okay okay, next question. Would you say that media has contributed to your
gender identity/construction?
Thank you for answering those questions now we will proceed to the
moralities and principles questions. First question. In a marketing
perspective, do you think manufacturers are successful in utilizing the pink

Okay, thank you. Next question. In your opinion how much does the pink
tax affect filipino citizens.
Okay, Next question. Do you think that the gender tax greatly contributes to
the economy of the Philippines?
Siguro? Uhh… kase ano ang daming tao or let’s say a higher class na
mahilig bumili ng kung anu-ano for their own satisfaction I think. So
you yung naisip ko.
Next question. If the pink tax is abolished, do you think there would be a

The first set of questions would be about the background knowledge about
the pink tax
Are you aware of the pink tax? How does it affect the minimum wage of a
person?
Does your family know about pink tax and how it affects the minimum wage
of a person? if so, what's your opinion about this?
No, I haven’t heard them talking about it. I think it is very sexist for me
really. I did not know about it was happening till you guys told me

about it and I feel very weird about it because I just noticed that it is
actually a real thing that happens with products.
Knowing that pink tax affects the minimum wage of a person, what do you
think can be a solution for this dilemma?
Do you think that women will have less purchasing power since pink tax
affects their minimum wage?
No, I do not think so. Because IO think that men still buy their own
kind of products and still have a good wage for them, and it should
not be that much different for women.
Do you think that women should adjust themselves and minimize their
finances just to avoid the effects of pink tax? WHY?
For me it depends on the person if they really want to save money and
not be affected by it. I think that is their decision I do not think that we
a as a society should force them to pay less just because we know
about this information. It should be still the persons decision if they
want to or not.
Were/are you only exposed to things that are strictly related to your gender
or to what your society expects from you?
Were/are you able to freely express yourself even with the standards that
the society has set on you? For example, physical appearances, choice of
clothes or things, manners, etc.
I used to follow very sexist youtubers when I was young, and they have
been a very big impact on what I should think and when I got into being
17 years old was when I thought that hat they were talking about was
wrong.
Yeah, because I think that they have been doing it for thousands of
years now and they have gotten good with it.
In your opinion, how much does the pink tax affect Filipino citizens? How
do you say so?
It affects them a lot especially since I think that most of the Philippines’
population are in poverty right now and I think that it affects them
since they wan t to express themselves.
Do you think the gender tax greatly contributes to the economy of the
Philippines?
I think because it has been a thing for years now I think it does a affect
our economy.
If the pink tax is abolished, do you think there will be a notable change in
the Philippine economy?
Yeah, there would be a huge change especially since it has been done
for years and some people would have a hard time getting used to it.
Do you think the pink tax has a significant role in poverty here, in the
Philippines?
Would you still choose to abolish the pink tax if it contributes to the economy
despite its unfair gender-based tax and promotion of gender construction?

Nagrerecord na ba?
Yes
Uh, Goodafternoon!
Uh- For your first set of questions, it would be about the- your background
knowledge about the pink tax.
Uh, How do you think does it affect the minimum wage of a person?
Mmm.
Uhh, what about your family? Does your family know about the pink tax and
how it affects the minimum wage of a person?
Uhm, no.
Ok.
Uhm, knowing that the pink tax uh, affects the minimum wage of a person,
what do you think can be a solution for this dilemma?
For me, I think a solution would be simply ano, re- remove pink tax. Or
There’s
equality and everything, ganun.
Ok.
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 211

Do think that women will have less purchasing power since pink tax affects
their minimum wage?
So in simple terms, uh, it- yung purchasing power is the value or worth ng
Uh, Going back to the question, do you think that women will have less
purchasing power because of the effects of pink tax?
Do you think that women should adjust themselves and minimize their
finances just to avoid the effects of pink tax?
Ok.

Now moving on for the next set of questions, it will be about how society
and media contribute to gender construction.
Uhh, no. Because for me I set my own standards. And as a part of uhm
LGBT community, our community, meron- meron silang parang
certain image of us, na, dapat I-achieve namin for us to have
validation. And ‘di ako sumasang-ayon sa standards nila because uhh,
I would like to be- I, I’d like myself to be unbothered by those, yun
lang.
Ok.
Uhm, were or are you only exposed to things that are strictly related to your
gender or to what your society expects from you?
Uhh, Are you only exposed to things that are strictly related to your gender
or to what your society expects from you?
Yes.
Uhm, siguro pagdating sa clothes, ganon. Like uh, ‘di kase open sa
atin na women uhh- men are wearing feminine clothes ganun, or men
wearing makeup, ganon. Yon.

Ok, uh were or are you able to freely express yourself even with the
standards that the society has set on you? For example, physical
appearance, choice of clothes or things, manners, etc.
Yes uhm, like I- like what I’ve said sa first ano, uhmm, I’d like to stay
unbothered. Gust- uhh, sinusunod ko lang yung standards ko and I
care less sa opinion ng iba. Yon.
Would you say that media has contributed to your gender identity or
construction?
Yes.
Ok.
First question,
Yes.
Because alam nilang ano eh- alam nilang, uhh, need ng mga women
yung ganun, yung mga uhh female products ganon. Alam nilang basic
needs, so parang it’s like a marketing strategy na, taasan nila yung, ay
mga women like kailangan nila yun constantly. Ganon.
In your opinion, how much does- how much does the pink tax affect Filipino
Citizen?
In your opinon, how much does the pink tax affect filipino citizens?
It affects them greatly. Lalo na yung ano, yung poverty here in the
Philippines.
yung bayad ganon. Ayon.
So, in relation to that, do you think that the pink tax has a, has a significant
role in the poverty here in the Philippines?
Do you think that the pink tax has a significant role in the poverty here in the
Philippines?
Uhmm, ayun nga, parang mas mapapagastos sila so mas onti yung
magiging ipon nila ganun.
Ok.
If the pink tax is abolished, do you think there will be a notable change in
the Philippine economy?
Ok.
Uhh, for the last question, would you still choose to abolish the pink tax if it
contributes to the economy despite its unfair gender-based tax and
promotion of gender construction?
Yes, I would like uhh, pink tax- pink tax to be abolished. Because
marami namang sigurong ways jan to, to improve our economy,
pwede naman nilang taasan in ways such as sin tax ganon, pwede
naman nilang ibawas nalang dun para mas may equality since men
and women are uhh, availing those kinds of products ganon. ‘di yung
sa women lang. ayon.

For the background, The Pink Tax is a phenomenon that directly affects

For the first set of questions, it would be about the background knowledge
about the pink tax. First question, Are you aware of the pink tax?
Uh, because a lot of the things that are affected by pink tax especially
hygiene, hygiene items uh it is through necessity, hindi lang sya
want. So yes we could say na, then if it’s an actual necessity then you
could just choose the cheaper option which is usually yung sa men’s.
But the thing is, I feel uh, we should not be holding that against women
kase in the first place they shouldn’t get that, uh, consequence. Di
naman- bakit kelangan sa kanila malagay yung,uh wait like, they are
supposed to get the option and they shouldn’t be paying more to get

an option that they like especially if the thing is the same lang naman.
So yah, especially for minimum wage workers. Kung necessity sya
especially if uh, sanitary napkins uh and then of course makeup yah.
We can say na yah want lang sya pero it’s a social need and for a lot
of jobs, kung cashier ka kelangan ng makeup stuff like that so yah it’s
a necessity rin at the same time. So, it affects everyone especially
those who earn less.
So next question, so does your family know about pink tax and how it affects
the minimum wage of a person?
I have not talked about this topic with them but I’m pretty sure na
familiar naman sila since they- especially my mom kase she’s also a
girl and she buys a lot of uh of things din na under pink tax.
So knowing that pink tax affects the minimum wage of a person, what do
you think can be a solution for this dilemma?
Well first we should be addressing the problem kase I feel like it’s not
uh talked about a lot yes there are many problems in our society and
this may not be uh the top priority but it should be addressed pa rin
and im glad na there are researchers such as yours-such as you that
addressed this type of topic. So yah and I also think that- I’m not-
actually I’m not familiar if there are any laws or bills that are present
at the moment especially in the Philippines but I feel like the
government should also be uh shedding light into this topic and into
this, they should address this problem.
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 220

So do you think that women will have less purchasing power since pink tax
affects their minimum wage?
Do you think that women should adjust themselves and minimize their
finances just to avoid the effects of pink tax? And WHY?
Uhh I feel like it’s a practical choice if you are in a situation wherein
you want to spend less and want to save more then it is an option then
you could opt for the cheaper option. But the thing is, as I said earlier,
you shouldn’t- you should not need to do that you should be given the
options and you should not be given consequences for the options
that you choose.
Okay so for the second part of our questions is about how Society and
Media Contribute to Gender Construction.Okay so question number one,
do you follow the standards set by society?
I would like to say na no, but let’s be honest, uh I grew up with the
societal standards and even though a lot of the things that are set by
society such as fashion and makeup are things that I actually do like.
Eh I guess it uh because I grew up with the societal norms na embed
na rin sya saken na although,I do like it, personally like it I guess
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 221

So Were/are you only exposed to things that are strictly related to your
gender or to what your society expects from you?
Hmm. Well not uh not uh hindi naman sya exclusively but yes I guess
I have been raised to be a little bit more girly and I have been yah, a lot
of my parents would remind me to act like a girl, act like a woman, and
to dress up and to look like a girl so yah I guess.
So were you able to freely express yourself even with the standards that the
society has set on you? For example, physical appearances, choice of
clothes or things, manners, etc.
Yah uh seeing a lot of uh beautiful, beautiful girls and then they would
advertise stuff like this that would make you prettier, that would make
you slimmer, would make you more fashionable, would make you
more attractive. Yah uh yah I guess na, na a lot of these influencer are
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 222
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
actually influential. Like, they actually affect the things I buy and the
things that I want to express myself with so yah.
Okay, so for the next set of questions is about economy vs. moralities and
principles. So first question In a marketing perspective, do you think
manufacturers are successful in utilizing the pink tax? Why do you say so?
Definitely. Kase like what we talked about earlier about the societal
standards, because women are set under this microscopic bubble that
they should fit this, they should be buying this, they should be
purchasing this. Women tend to spend, women are more willing to
spend more to achieve this standard so yes from a business
perspective they are successful kase as we can see, a lot of the, kaya
ang dami mo paring nakikitang items na affected by pink tax is
because it’s working people- girls are buying it, women are buying it.
And yah, it makes them richer uh it yah it affects a lot of women
negatively.
So In your opinion, how much does the pink tax affect Filipino citizens? How
do you say so?
So do you think the gender tax greatly contributes to the economy of the
Philippines?
I would say, yes. Kase I feel like it’s prominent naman sa Phlippines
to- we are still a very traditional country kaya we still look at girls, we
still have a mindset na uh pink is for girls and blue is for boys, uh girls
wear makeup, girls have to uhm have to be pale, a lot of things yah
kase Filipinos have very westernized uh standards kaya we try to
match that and we pressure women to fit that standard kaya women
tend to spend more on that.
If the pink tax is abolished, do you think there will be a notable change in
the Philippine economy?
If the pink tax is abolished, do you think there will be a notable change in
the Philippine economy?
Hmm. I feel like there would, honestly kase I feel like a lot of the things
that I buy are manufactured sa, a lot of things that are marketed
towards women are manufactured overseas and are just important
dito. So personally yah I feel like, kase ang lakas naman ng Philippine
economy is more on natural resources. We, yah we manufacture some
but mas naka focus kase tayo sa, yung industry naten mas naka focus
sa food and or delicacies and other things that we have in the
Philippines exclusively. Uh things such as makeup, I usually purchase
from manufacturers overseas, so ayon.

- START OF INTERVIEW -
Now for our brief background, the Pink Tax is a phenomenon that directly
affects women. It is where prices on gender-based products for women are
significantly higher than those for men.
Things people buy are driven by emotional decisions and/or time-saving
habits (Chuzha, 2020). Based on the book “Thinking, Fast and Slow” by
Daniel Kahneman, women will continue to buy these pink products because
the brain prefers to be getting the easier and more familiar path. With this,
instead of buying products for men that have no difference with women’s
products, women will choose the product that was meant for “her” and with
the “appropriate” color.
Okay, so for the first set of questions, this is going to be about the SOP 1 of
our study which is the background knowledge about the pink tax. So First
question is, are you aware of the pink tax?
Um… yes. Kase um… um… syempre meron kaming babae dito sa
bahay and ayun we… kami yung naka-assign to buy groceries and
okay so, how do you think does it affect the minimum wage of a person?
Next question. Does your family know the pink tax and how it affects the
minimum wage of a person?
salary because um… in our family we can buy the things that we want,
and um… it doesn’t matter on how much the difference is between
men products and women products. We just buy them because of
um… in terms of shampoo we just notice the scent and that’s it, we
don’t give much attention to it.
Okay Thank you, Next question. Knowing that pink tax affects the minimum
wage of a person what do you think can be a solution for this dilemma?
Um… I think um… companies should be… be honest with um… selling
feminine products or feminine scented products. If they are going to
bump up the prices um… make sure na… merong specialty or merong
parang special ingredient or special procedure na pinagdaanan yung
isang product. To… to… to boost or to… to… enheighten the… the…
feminine products that women use and as all of us may know tayong
mga lalake we don’t care… we don’t care about these products
anyway. So ayon. Dapat ma make sure lang nila na may… may
parang… unique na… na…. na parang… treat yung product na yon.
Okay next question. Do you think that women will have less purchasing
power since pink tax affects their minimum wage?
more what?
will have less purchasing power since pink tax affects their minimum wage.
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 229
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
It doesn’t really matter anyway. Hindi naman sa ano, if they have the
money or the salary to buy things that they want, it shouldn’t matter
as much anyways. And also, um… since there is no… there is no…
significant difference in the products, I think they always have the
option to buy men products and um... don’t care about the color pink
or the women’s products branding.
okay, thank you. Next question. Do you think that women should adjust
themselves and minimize their finances just to avoid the effects of pink tax?
Um… that also depends um… kase if they have lower salary, I think
they should definitely manage and adjust to the… to the… prices that
were put on women products.
Okay, thank you for answering those questions. Now continuing to the
SOP2 of our study which is how society and media contribute to gender
construction. So first question, do you follow the standards set by the
society?
For example, standards that are set on you. Being you uh… being a male
for example.
Okay, Next question. Were/are you only exposed to things that are strictly
related to your gender or what the society expects from you?
Um… Fashion for sure. Like Um… syempre my family always made
sure that as a boy, I get the things that are related to more masculine
types of products like cars, toy cars, male clothes, shoes, and
And ayun nga since dati hindi naman ako masyadong
exposed sa mga feminine products and also yung society nga yung
standards nung society. I have no interest in female clothing or female
apparel or anything related to female products.
Okay, thank you. Next question. Were/are you able to freely express
yourself even with the standards that the society has set on you? For
example, physical appearances, choices of clothes or things, manners and
etc.
um… siguro if I’m alone I can express myself because I know that no
one will judge me, but um… even if I’m alone… It’s like um… it’s like
abiding to those… to those social… social rules or social standards is
normal for me. Yun lang.
Okay, next question. Would you say that media has contributed to your
gender identity/ construction?
Definitely.
Pero
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 231
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
kasi I’m not that kind of person na… na… I will do those things just to
get media’s attention. Wala lang if the media… if I do the normal
society standards things I guess um… I don’t give much attention to
the media. But yeah I follow the… the… standards that the media have
shown. In terms of being masculine and um… showing that you are a
real man.
okay, thank you for answering those questions. Now we will proceed to the
economy vs moralities and principles question. First question is, In a
marketing perspective, do you think manufacturers are successful in
utilizing the pink tax?
Okay, thank you. Next question, In your opinion how much does the pink
tax affect filipino citizens
think um… not much. It doesn’t affect the filipinos that much since
um… filipinos could be… seen as naïve or they don’t really care about
those products as long as it’s cheap and it’s… it’s affordable.
Do you think the gender tax greatly contributes to the economy of the
Philippines?
For sure, because um… those taxes really… really gives an edge to
the well example, like if everyone bought masculine products and
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 232
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
spend less, of course the government will receive less… less taxes.
So yeah definitely helps the government and the economy of the
Philippines.
Thank you, next question. If the pink tax is abolished, do you think there will
be a notable change in the Philippine economy?
Um… not really… because as I’ve said earlier filipinos don’t give much
attention to gender specific items as long as it’s affordable they buy it
so yeah I think it won’t make such a difference to… to… to really
implement that.
okay, next question. Do you think the pink tax has a significant role in
poverty, here in the Philippines?
Do you think the pink tax has a significant role in poverty, here in the
Philippines?
Um… no… no it doesn’t have huge role in on why a lot of filipinos are
poor doesn’t… doesn’t make sense.
Okay thank you. Next question and last question. Would you still choose to
abolish the pink tax if it contributes to the economy despite its unfair gender
based tax and promotion of gender construction?
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 233
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
Of course I will abolish that… that pink tax because it really doesn’t
make much sense since you just change the color and appearance of
the containers and how you brand the… these feminine products,
doesn’t make sense so… yeah I will abolish it and make sure that what
you see is what you get um… the product can do this so… you have
to pay this much. And I will not base on the… on if it’s pink or it has…
like for women that branding I don’t… I will abolish that.
Okay so, before we conclude this interview, do you have any questions for

Uhh yes.
Less purchasing
power ren for them.
Ok.
Do you think that women should adjust themselves and minimize their
finances just to avoid the effects of the pink tax?
Uhh, why?
Uhh, now that they have knowledge na mas mataas nga yung

Ah ok, do you think that women should adjust themselves and minimize

Ok. Uhh, siguro hindi nalang pala. Hindi nila dapat i-adjust ang
kanilang finances for the pink tax?
Ok
Since ano ba, how can I explain this ba, hmm, pwede ba I don’t know
how to answer the question nalang?
Uhh, now for the next set of questions, it will be about the society and media

Yes.
Uhh, why?
Can you explain why you follow the standards set by society?
I see.
Uhh, were or are you only exposed to things that are strictly related to your

Yes.
Ok uh, would you say that media has contributed to your gender identity or
constructions? For example influencers, magazines, social networking
sites.
Yes.
How do you say so? How did it affect uh, your- how did it contribute to your
gender identity?
Because media provides a lot of information that will let us realize who
we are truly. Kaya doon, minsan ginagawa siyang basis to uhm get to

Ok.

Kaya successful nga siguro sila because of

In your opinion, how much does the pink tax affect filipino citizens?
Ah ok, so pink tax kung mapapansin niyo ay- dinadagdagan nga yung
presyo ng mga products for women, so if this continues then it could
affect the overall income generated by women here in our country or
kung saan man.
Ayon.
Ok.

Do you think the gender tax greatly contributes to the economy of the
Philippines?
Yes.
Uhm Since, ayun nga since, the mm- since the prices for women
products are higher then the purchasing power of women are lower
than men. So it affects the demand, it affects the demand and how
often women spend now, kase ano, mababawasan ngayon income nila
na gagamitin nila for spending for products, ayon.
Ok.
If the pink tax is abolished, do you think there will be a notable change in
the Philippine economy?
Ok.
Do you think the pink tax has a significant role in poverty here in the

Yes, meron.
Ayon, uulitin ko lang yung kanina since ayun nga uhm, dadagdagan
niya ngayon yung tax uhm, mababawasan ngayon yung income ng
women, mababawasan ang purchasing power nila, kaya ayon
magiging poverty. It further leads to poverty if we have less
purchasing power than what we expect.

study which is the background knowledge of the pink tax. So first question
is are you aware of the pink tax?
Yes I… um… I am do aware that um… some products that are meant
for women are higher in price than those uhh… for men. But I am not
aware um… I do not know exactly about the terminology, pink tax. I
I’m not that aware of… na may term pala na pink
tax na tinatawag. Akala ko nung una ko syang narinig batas ba sya?
Or something or bill na naipasa ganon or tax talaga sya na pinapatong
ganon.
Ayon so since may pink tax nga na mas mataas yung pambabae na
Kase

Does your family know the pink tax and how it affects the minimum wage of
a person? if so, what’s your opinion about this?
about sa minimum wage kase yun nga family owned or kami yung nag
okay, next question. Knowing that pink tax affects the minimum wage of a
person what do you think can be a solution for this dilemma?
masolusyonan siguro dapat siguro silang mag gawa ng research or
kung gaano kataas and mas mataas ba talaga yung um… yung…
ginagastos nila sa mga products. And if mas mataas talaga, dapat

Okay, thank you. Next question. Do you think that women will have less
purchasing power since pink tax affects their minimum wage?
Okay, thank you. Next question. Do you think that women should adjust
themselves and minimize their finances just to avoid the effects of pink tax?
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 248
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENT RESEARCH INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
adjust don yung mga babae dapat, the manufacturers yung mag adjust
or yung mga producer nung certain products na yon. Ayon. So ayon
products or yung service. Pero kaya lang sya tinaasan kase
pambabae, so feeling ko dapat magkaroon ng um… law or something
situations. Kase maiipit yung is yung mga girls. Ayon yun lang.
Thank you for answering those questions. Now continuing to the SOP 2 of
our study which is how society and media contribute to gender construction.
So first question, do you follow the standards set by the society?
Ganon. Parang ganon.
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 249

Uh… sometimes.
Um…
I’m safe.
Ganyan,
halimbawa, babae ka dapat um… magma-makeup ka ganito ganyan.
Hindi ako masyadong sumusunod sa ganon. Na… sinasabi nung iba.
Ayon.
okay thank you. Next question. Were or are you only exposed to things that
are strictly related to your gender or to what society expects from you.
Okay, next question. Were or are you able to freely express yourself even
with the standards that the society has set on you? For example, physical
appearances, choices of clothes or things, manners, and etc.
Yes. I am able to express myself, naman kase I don’t follow what the
okay thank you. Next question Would you say that media has contributed
to your gender identity/construction?

I mean
ano yung nakita ko sa internet gagayahin ko lahat, If I see it as

hindi naman.
Okay, thank you for answering those questions, now we will proceed to the
economy versus moralities and principles questions. The first question is,
in a marketing perspective do you think manufacturers are successful in
utilizing the pink tax?
Uhm… kasi uhm… in reality kapag ka diba, halimbawa ako babae tas
may kailangan akong bilhin for example like shampoo, ang titignan ko
yung ano, yung for women na yung for women na section sa isang
store.

Okay naext question, in your opinion how much does the pink tax
affect Filipino citizens?
Oo.
sa uhm, standards na sinet ng society, am I clear on that, or is it
shaky?

Ah okay lang, so next question, do you think that the gender tax greatly
contribute to the economy of the Philippines?
Hmm yes.
I think.
Okay thank you, next question, if the pink tax is abolished, do you think
there will be a notable change in the Philippine economy
Hmm yes, feeling ko somewhat meron. Kasi yun since nga bababa
yung price, or siguro pag Nawala yung pink tax halos parehas na lang
yung price nung mga products talaga so lilit yung tax na makukuha
ng government so medyo baka bumaba yung economy ganyan… or di
ganun na kataas or kaganda. Kasi siyempre yung, yung prices nag,

Okay thank you for answering those questions, before we conclude this

For the background, The Pink Tax is a phenomenon that directly affects
women. It is where prices on gender-based products for women are
significantly higher than those for men.

Uhm.
eh. Basta kelangan okay lang, I na masyado pinapansin yung price.
So knowing that pink tax affects the minimum wage of a person, what do
you think can be a solution for this dilemma?
Do you think that women will have less purchasing power since pink tax
affects their minimum wage?
Uhm. Siguro quite the opposite.
yung kadalasan gumagastos. Sa skincare or sa mga perfume. And
then, since yun nga mas magastos sila diyan and ang lumalabas

Do you think that women should adjust themselves and minimize their

Okay so for the second part of our questions is about how Society and
Media Contribute to Gender Construction. Okay so question number one,
do you follow the standards set by society?
Hm.
tayo.
Next question, were you only exposed to things that are strictly related to

diverse society natin and okay lang maging iba. Parang nagiging more
accepting din ako sa other possibilities such as way of thinking, uhm
pananamit, and then yung taste sa mga, sa mga bagay bagay ganon.
Yes. Successful sila since, eto na yung living proof eh, nandito tayo
ngayon na tinatangkilik natin products nila, yon.

do you say so?
So do you think the gender tax greatly contributes to the economy of the
Philippines?
If the pink tax is abolished, do you think there will be a notable change in
the Philippine economy?
As of now, siguro wala. Walang- may changes pero hindi siya ganon
ka-significant since ang pinaka main problem talaga natin yung prices
ng food, housing, yung electricity, and etcetera.
So do you think the pink tax has a significant role in poverty here, in the
Philippines?
Okay. So do you think the pink tax has a significant role in poverty here, in
the Philippines?
mga disposables na kagamitan wala sila or wala silang access dahil
yun nga ang kaya lang talaga nila i- ma-acquire is yung pang-tawid
gutom nila tska yung house, basic housing care.

contributes to the economy despite its unfair gender-based tax and
promotion of gender construction?

Yes.
Uhm since, kung if ever man na kina-capitalize nga lang yon dahil sa
yun nga mas meticulous yung kumbaga built different talaga yung
lalake.

Uhmm, I’m not really sure, wait, I guess siguro ano ren, since dalawa

I think that, yung problem is wala dun sa women, wala dun sa financial
control ng woman, kundi nandudun sa patriarchy or- and
discrimination in gender sa economy naten and the country itself.
OK.

Siguro, a bit, but not that much. I really discovered my gender since

in what way nakakaapekto yung pink tax sa kanila.
Ok.
Uh now, do you think the gender tax greatly contributes to the economy of
the Philippines?
Uh, by economy it includes the profit that company makes from the pink
tax.
For sure it affects the economy so much, kase women have no other
choice but to buy these products kase nga ayun yung tanging

afford products such as for menstruational or ano nila- mga- for
monthly mens nila, for hygiene, for health care, or whatsoever, for
sure it will greatly affect the poverty here in the Philippines.

Okay, so for the last set of questions it would be about economy vs.

you think manufacturers are successful in utilizing the pink tax? Why do you

Uhm, I think. Sorry maingay ah. I think uhm uh yung mga companies
really benefited from the idea of pink tax.
So I think
yung idea nun.
So In your opinion, how much does the pink tax affect Filipino citizens? How
do you say so?
So do you think the gender tax greatly contributes to the economy of the

Uhm, Feeling ko oo. Kase we’re not really a big of a country and we
don’t really have a great economy to start with. Kaya feeling ko it uhm
it is really affecting the economy ng Philippines yung gender tax. Yes.
If the pink tax is abolished, do you think there will be a notable change in
the Philippine economy?
Yes. I think it yung uhm uh start of the change like Nawala na yung
gender tax, ayon.
So do you think the pink tax has a significant role in poverty here, in the
Philippines?
Uhm I think, I think it does have a great effect sa poverty. Kasi since
hindi naman- eh kasi since yung yun nga, not everyone in the
Philippines uh ay parang uh well, they’re well, tawag dun? Parang laki
sa kaya na di naman kase, it is known in the Philippines na talagang
ma-ano ang poverty. So I think mas makaka-affect siya sa mga taong
less unfortunate kung yung differences between the tax, lalo na kung

Would you still choose to abolish the pink tax if it contributes to the economy
despite its unfair gender-based tax and promotion of gender construction?
I think ah, I would still want to abolish pink tax kase in the first place
parang wala rin kasi namang talagang sense yung idea na you’re
marketing products of the same options, same use, same materials
just because it is for uh different genders. Parang hindi talaga siya
reasonable and hindi siya just for the whole country and the whole

much better to abolish pink tax even though na nakaka-affect siya sa

parang uhm it really affects their uhm lifestyle and uhm their

The first set of questions would be about the background knowledge about
the pink tax.
Are you aware of the pink tax? How does it affect the minimum wage of a
person?
Does your family know about pink tax and how it affects the minimum wage
of a person? if so, what's your opinion about this?
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 291

Yes, because me and my sister are the only children of my mother and
my mother frequently talks about how expensive it is to take care of
female children because of skin care hair care and body products ,
etc. They are marketed for women. So like they are saying that why is
it hard to maintain female children compared to female ones and the
basis are the products.
Knowing that pink tax affects the minimum wage of a person, what do you
think can be a solution for this dilemma?
Do you think that women will have less purchasing power since pink tax
affects their minimum wage?
Do you think that women should adjust themselves and minimize their
finances just to avoid the effects of pink tax? WHY?
I will depend on the individual. For example a female and she is high
maintenance and only receives a minimum wage salary and it will
depend on her if she will adjust.
Were/are you only exposed to things that are strictly related to your gender
or to what your society expects from you?
Were/are you able to freely express yourself even with the standards that
the society has set on you? For example, physical appearances, choice of
clothes or things, manners, etc.

If they were to utilize the pink tax knowing that women only have a
minimum wage. Because their market is for females then it is for
females. What they are doing is personal attacks like in skin care
brands. Then if they can utilize, I won’t know about them. They are
oriented by “busines is business” because they won’t care so long as
they can sell the product. For now that I can see. I am not actually sure
if there are companies that support women.

In your opinion, how much does the pink tax affect Filipino citizens? How
do you say so?
Do you think the gender tax greatly contributes to the economy of the
Philippines?
So, if the tax for the products for women are higher. In a way the
economy will rise it won’t be practical it will only be ideal. Because
there are a lot of women that want to buy something just because it
will boost their confidence but a lot it is only ideal because economy
things like practicality and reality come into the picture. So it is ideal
to put tax on women’s products then there are males who have high
salaries and spend only so little. Then it is somehow unfair because
economy will rise but is it only because of the pink tax? So, for what?

If the pink tax is abolished, do you think there will be a notable change in
the Philippine economy?
Do you think the pink tax has a significant role in poverty here, in the
Philippines?
Brands have a market target so in poverty there are products that are
high quality marketed to specific hierarchies. And then there are low
class types of products marketed to those who can’t afford the high
ones. So, there is a dividing factor and there is already discrimination.
So, in poverty there are still those who are forced. The minimum wage
is also a factor especially for women. Then there is the pink ax. So,
your priorities for products are greatly affected.
Would you still choose to abolish the pink tax if it contributes to the economy
despite its unfair gender-based tax and promotion of gender construction?

Wow naman
Now for our brief background, the Pink Tax is a phenomenon that directly
affects women. It is where prices on gender-based products for women are
significantly higher than those for men.
Uhh your first set of questions would be about your background knowledge
about the pink tax. So first question, Are you aware of the pink tax?
As women are paid much lesser than men, I think that as crisis for
female feminine products again sorry what what’s the question?
Okay okay As women are paid lesser than men, there there earnings
goes to products products that other services that are intended for
their needs and/or hygiene. And yeah thats it
Okay proceeding to the third question, Knowing that pink tax affects the
minimum wage of a person based on your answer, what do you think can
be a solution for this dilemma?
Do you think that women will have less purchasing power since pink tax
affects their minimum wage?
Again sorry
Do you think that women will have less purchasing power since pink tax
affects their minimum wage? Purchasing power is the value of a currency
expressed in terms of the amount of goods or services that one unit of
money can buy. So in simplest terms, purchasing power is the value or

Okay i dont think that it affects that because for example as I’ve seen
in female products they are thrice higher even in if for example the
amount less and that would greatly affect their purchasing power as
with their earnings not enough to continue on buying such products
Okay Do you think that women should adjust themselves and minimize their
finances just to avoid the effects of pink tax?
No i think that that for example lawmakers should as the pink tax is as
the pink tax as tax is about the law, i think that lawmakers had a great
part in ensuring that gender wouldn't be a factor in those tax
Okay proceeding to your second set of questions, which are about How
Society and Media Contribute to Gender Construction
Again sorry?
On what?
Like uhmm the products for men are usually for men or the things that our
that is projected for women are only for women
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 301

Okay Were/are you only exposed to things that are strictly related to your
gender or to what your society expects from you?
but did you ever feel that there were standards that were/are set on you?
Uhm i think yes because when for example I said that link conditioner
is ay uhm for example i’m having a conversation with someone in
public and since I’m since i live with women in our household and im
and of course to save money we use the same conditioner and if i tell
them that i am using a conditioner that is meant that is intended for
women they would easily judge me because i am not using something
that is intended for men
Were/are you able to freely express yourself even with the standards that
the society has set on you? For example, physical appearances, choice of
clothes or things, manners, etc.
Last question, would you say that the media has contributed to your gender
identity/construction? For example, influencers, magazines, social
networking sites
We are all influenced by what we see and perceive online and i think
that with the way for example the way I wear clothes I don’t think of
this is intended for women intended for men, I just wear whatever I
want if that's make sense
Uhm no i think that manufacturers play a big part in for example the
pink tax as they charge way higher on female products on feminine
products other than on masculine products
So in your opinion, how much does the pink tax affect Filipino citizens?
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas 303

Okay do you think the gender tax greatly contributes to the economy of the
Philippines?
Yes i think that it does because as women are using products that are
fit for their needs for example like feminine needs like uhm feminine
wash, tampons, etc since women used this on a daily or monthly
basis, it greatly has an impact to our economy yeah
And If the pink tax is abolished, do you think there will be a notable change
in the Philippine economy?
And If the pink tax is abolished, do you think there will be a notable change
in the Philippine economy?
Okay second to the last question, do you think the pink tax has a significant
role in poverty here, in the Philippines?
Do you think the pink tax has a significant role in poverty here, in the
Philippines?
Yes i think it does as for example in as for example with women who
is at the certain age and this women is exposed to poverty they are
not able to afford or keep afford to keep buying things intended for
their gender.
Okay, last question, would you still choose to abolish the pink tax if it
contributes to the economy despite its unfair gender-based tax and
promotion of gender construction?
