Conner Macdonald completed a capstone project where he repaired an old lawn mower engine. He started by getting a broken lawn mower that would not start. He then replaced the spark plug and oil, but the engine was still having issues shooting sparks from the muffler. After researching, he cleaned out the dirty engine and took it apart. While the piston looked fine, he applied WD-40 to help it move better. In the end, he mounted the repaired engine on a cart but was unable to fully weld it due to COVID restrictions.

Where I got the idea • I started out with the idea of doing a workout plan but I thought that I always workout I'm not learning anything new and I would have made the workout instead of a fun thing it might have turned into my homework and I don’t want to make working out a chore. So I changed my idea into doing motor engineering I thought it would be a fun thing that I could learn how a lawn mower motor works. I have never done anything like this before so a lot of what I did was threw triel and arer. I learned what a piston and many things about the motor. Picking up a lawn mower I got a old broken lawn motor it wouldn’t start or even try to turn over so came my next step New spark plug I went out and got a new spark plug to try and help the lawn mower motor start but the motor seemed like it was trying to start but wasn’t quite there Put in new Oil The next step I took out the old oil in the motor and replaced it with new oil. The next problem This is the muffler the muffler has decided it would be funny to shoot sparks and fuel out of the muffler so I would now have to try and solve that problem Research • First of all, I looked up why would my lawn mower engine shoot sparks out of the muffler. It told me it was possible for the piston rings are disintegrated in the heads to lack of lubrications Took of the Blade The next step was taking the blade off for two reasons one was to help prevent myself from possibly accidently cutting myself and the second reason was because I was going to attach a rotter to it to make my cart go Clean the motor I took the lawn mower cover off to try and take a peek at the engine it was crazy messy in the engine it looked like there was a nest inside the motor it was a big mess and I cleaned it out The clean motor I cleaned up the motor and made it look nice then applied WD-40 to some parts to try and make the motor run better I took apart the motor I took apart the lawn mower motor I took a look at the piston and I thought it was fine but I wasn’t willing to spend $150 on a new piston so I made it work now everything moved nicely The motor on the cart This is the fine project the motor on the cart I was unable to do the welding part parshly because of the covid and because I didn’t know anything about welding but everything id together on the motor and it looks pretty sick THE END
