A semiconductor is a material having resistivity Falling between conductors and insulators.

Silicon,
germanium are the most commonly used semiconductors. Semiconductora have wide range of
applications.

The resistivity of semiconductors ranges approximately between 10(-2) and 10(4) Ωm

Forbidden energy gap of semiconductors is small.

Its is the energy difference between the valence band and conduction band of the material. So on
application of energy, the forbidden energy gap decreases and the electrons can tranfer from valence
band to conduction band.
