WHAT ARE
NFTs?
NFT is short for non-fungible
token. It’s defined as “a unique digital
certificate, registered in a blockchain, that is
used to record ownership of an asset such as
an artwork or a collectible.”

that makes it difficult or impossible to
change, hack, or cheat the system.

NFTs come in all
shapes and sizes.
They can ‘live’ on different blockchains,
Ethereum and Solana being the most
popular.

To keep things simple, this guide will focus

on NFTs that are registered on the
Ethereum blockchain.

- Generating royalties with secondary sales.

- Granting access to exclusive, real life events.
- Access to other popular projects.
- Passive income through simply holding it.
- They cannot be falsified as they’re registered in
a blockchain.

I BUY NFTs?
THERE ARE 2 WAYS OF
BUYING NFTs.
MINTING: Buying an NFT directly from the
artist or project owner through their
website.

SECONDARY: Buying through a secondary

market place such as OpenSea, Rarible or
NiftyGateway.

MAKE PURCHASES

The most common and widely trusted
being MetaMask. To set up your MetaMask
wallet, follow the instructions here.

Be sure to write down your ‘seed phrase’

(found in security settings) in case you
lose your login details - NEVER share this
phrase with anyone.

YOU’LL NEED TO
TRANSFER ETHEREUM
TO YOUR WALLET.
You can buy Ethereum through MetaMask
directly or through platforms like
Coinbase, Coinbase Pro, Crypto.com, and
then transfer it to your Meta Mask wallet.

from one wallet to another.

LOOK FOR SOMETHING
THAT CATCHES YOUR
EYE.
Research is everything in the NFT world. Besides
going for something that looks cool, ask yourself
the following questions:

- Is the artist reputable (on social media)?

- Does it feel unique or is it a copy and paste
project?
- Is the team on Discord reputable/ does their
channel have a decent following?
- Does the project have good incentives to hold
the piece?

Do your homework before you click on ‘buy’.

YOU HAVE TO PAY A
FEE WHEN YOU
PURCHASE AN NTF.
This is called a ‘gas fee’ which is a service fee for
using the Ethereum blockchain.

This fee fluctuates depending on how many people

are buying NFTs at that given moment. I’ll go into gas
fees more in another guide as it’s a meaty subject.

MetaMask will show you how much the gas fee is

before you confirm the transaction. Once you’re
happy, click on confirm, wait a few seconds and
you’ll get a transaction confirmation.

ONCE YOU’VE
PURCHASED YOUR
NFT, IT WILL SHOW UP
IN YOUR WALLET.
To be able to view the NFT itself, you’ll
need to connect to a marketplace. We’ll
use OpenSea as an example.

Simply connect your wallet to the

OpenSea website, click on your avatar in
the top right corner > profile > collected.

Congrats! There it is, your first NFT.

for NFT related information.

Twitter: This is where NFT influencers and

projects share information and launch dates.

Discord: This is where projects come to life

and communities hang out. Make sure to join
a community that you’re interested in and
stay up to date through announcements. The
more you participate, the more you’ll be
rewarded.

HOW TO AVOID
SCAMMERS
I REPEAT. NEVER
SHARE YOUR SEED
PHRASE.
As you enter more and more NFT Discord servers,
you will get more and more spam messages
claiming to be from official NFT Discord staff,
fake projects or other jokers.

Do not click these links and NEVER share your

seed phrase (your MetaMask security key). They
are more than likely people trying to steal your
hard earned Ethereum.

Turning off DM’s in privacy settings will help.

DON’T DOWNLOAD
UNVERIFIED BROWSER
EXTENSIONS.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Don’t download extension and apps that look
suspicious. MetaMask is all you’ll need to
purchase an NFT with on the Ethereum
blockchain.
