Activity 2

Firming Up
- Research the target culture or do some cross-cultural training. Many cultures expect a
formality at the beginning of communication between individuals. Every culture has its own
specific way of indicating of formality. Speak slowly it’s not good idea to speak at your
normal conversational speed, speak clearly and pronouncing your words properly but don’t
slow down too much. If the person you’re speaking to is talking too quickly don’t afraid to
politely ask to them to slow down. Restate or summaries what the other person said to
ensure that you have understand them correctly and ask questions. Make the conversations
flow more freely by taking it turns to speak. Make a point and then listen to the other
person respond. If you’re not sure whether the other person has understood you properly
you can write it down to make sure. This can be particularly helpful.
Concretizing
1. “Human beings draw close to one another by their common nature, but habits and customs
keep them apart." (Confucius) Do you agree or disagree? Give concrete situations to support
your stand. (Not less than 200 words)

- I agree, Human beings are social creatures connecting with others is important. The one
thing that keeps us apart is our habits. So, if we see something new than what were used to
our reaction would be “what’s that”. Some people take others differences so they end up
being enemies. The best we can do to move forward as a species is put our differences aside
and accept each other.

2. Identify a country where graduates of your program or field of specialization are in demand.

that country should remember. Based on your research, prepare three-to four-minute
presentation.

law, history and law, philosophy and law, political science and low, sociology and law. JSP
students often seek to utilize their disciplinary field as a credential for later academic
appointment in a discipline-based department. Where this applies, students are routinely
advised to complete additional course-work in the relevant campus department.
