Electro Acupuncture
According To Dr. Voll
First Part of The Class
Eight Tissue Meridians and Eye

PANKAJ GUPTA Meridian

By Pankaj Gupta
A TCM Thinker
Introduction
• The Electro Acupuncture According to Dr Voll is a method of
combining the fundamentals of Chinese Acupuncture with the

PANKAJ GUPTA
facilities of modern electronics for diagnostics and therapy.

Chinese Acupuncture uses energy-

conducting lines called Meridians and
the Acupuncture points situated
along them.
• These are the points where the
electric resistance is measured.

PANKAJ GUPTA
• Dr. Voll is consider the founder of EAV (Electro Acupuncture
According to Dr. Voll). since he succeeded not only in finding a
method of exact electric localization and in explaining the

PANKAJ GUPTA
interrelation between the acupuncture points and their individual
organs, but he also succeeded in measuring the resistance of these
points and in explaining the diagnostic meaning of the measured
values.
• In Chinese Acupuncture, treatment
of energy is given on the guess
(estimate or conclude without
sufficient information) basis.
• In Electro Acupuncture to measure

PANKAJ GUPTA
the actual energy of every point and
every organ, an electronic
instrument named Dermatrone is
used.
• In this system treatment is given
on the basis of original diagnosis
rather than guess work.

PANKAJ GUPTA
Treatment is also giving by
electronic instrument. This saved
the therapist from both the
situations of giving treatment
more than required or less than
required.

• In Classical Acupuncture the energy available in the patient’s body

is used for the balancing.

PANKAJ GUPTA
In Electro Acupuncture the electronic energy can be given on the
desired area or on the desired organ and energy can also be
increased in the desired quantity.
• The first usable energy medicine device was developed by Dr.
Reinhold Voll, MD.
• Dr. Voll and his colleagues discovered that the electrical

PANKAJ GUPTA
conductivity of the skin increases dramatically at acupoints and
that each acupoint has a specific conductivity value for healthy
people.
A lower than normal conductivity was found to indicate an
inflammation or irritation in the organ corresponding to the
acupoint being tested. Conversely, a higher conductivity meant a
fatigued or degenerating organ. (if a person bear more current –
higher conductivity, if person could not bear even normal current –
lower then normal conductivity)

PANKAJ GUPTA
Dr. Voll's technique became known as "Electro Acupuncture
According to Voll" (EAV) and is the basis for all electro acupuncture
biofeedback devices in use today.

The functionality and specification of this instrument
• Electric resistance of Acu points on the body of patient is measured
by the diagnosis part of the dermatron.
• From 135 mili volt to 2070 mili volt can be measured from this

PANKAJ GUPTA
instrument. Average voltage is 900 mili volt which is denoted at 50
mark on the dial.
Current flowing in the body of the patient can be between 5.50 to
11.25 micro/ampere voltage range. This current is too less that the
patient do not get to feel this current.
• Therefore, patient do not even get to know about the current given
for the diagnostic and treatment by EAV, because this current is far
less than the capacity of electric flow in the human body. Therapist
can given treatment only by seeing reading in treatment

• PANKAJ GUPTA
instrument.
When the electric flow is given in the body by dermatron then 50
unit indicate on dial that 0.87 volt electric energy resistance is
retributed by the body. Average electric resistance of the human
body is 0.87 volt.
• Electronic resistance is less on acu point from the other part of the
body.
• Average reading is 50.

PANKAJ GUPTA
Reading more than 50 indicates the disease in the body is of
inflammatory phase.
Reading less than 50 indicates that the working capacity is very
much reduced due to chronic and degenerative process.
• In this electric energy supply given through EAV instrument starts
curing the degenerative process amazingly.
• Indicator drop (ID) indicates that the disease is either acute or
chronic along with the cell decay.

PANKAJ GUPTA
Acupuncture point
• Like physical electric energy is stored in electric battery – similarly
acupuncture point located on meridian have centralization of

PANKAJ GUPTA
energy. This principle is proved by Dr Voll.
• Different organs give self produced energy to their own meridian
so that they can flow that energy toward hand and feet. In these
meridians through Acupuncture point’s energy gets stored is a
biological optimum level by the body.
• If energy increases or decreases in any meridian results in disease
in the body. Treatment of these disease can be given by the electric
current on those acupuncture points.
• Dr. Voll proved through his research that Acupuncture point takes
electric current only till that time once there normal energy

PANKAJ GUPTA
reaches potential level. Once energy reaches normal energy
potential level, Acupuncture point stop taking more energy on
their own. It means that treatment with electro acupuncture
balance energy.
• In electro acupuncture 8 to 10 mili ampere current is given which
does not stimulate our cerebrospinal nervous system. It means
that current given in electro acupuncture is only received by
related point and cerebrospinal, nervous system remains

• PANKAJ GUPTA
unaffected.
In the case of deficiency of energy in related point electrical
current gives energy to that point and the movement normal
energy potential level reaches on that point, the point stops taking
energy.
• If the related point is already have excessive energy then that point
does not take any electric current.

PANKAJ GUPTA
Premonitions of disease
• Body keeps producing homotoxins and regularly expels them out
of the body.

PANKAJ GUPTA
• Whenever these homotoxins remain in the body, they gives rise of
diseases.
• When the homotoxins increase in the body, then the cells of the
body starts degenerating and give rise to serious diseases.
• It is very important to know the phase of the homotoxins in the
body for the treatment and diagnosis purpose.
• It has been observed that diagnosis through clinical tests show the
disease only in the last phase. But by that time disease become
severe and incurable.

PANKAJ GUPTA
Phases of diseases in the body
There are six stages of self poisoning process in the body
Humeral phase

PANKAJ GUPTA
1. Excretion phase
2. Reaction phase
3. Deposition phase
Cellular phase
4 Impregnation phase
5 Degeneration phase
6 Cancer or malignant disease phase
• First three phase are called liquid and semi liquid phase means
Humeral Phase. In this phase there is no change in the chemical
composition.

PANKAJ GUPTA
• Last three phases are known as Cellular Phase, in this cellular
phase change, destruction and deterioration starts in the cell.
• These last three phases can be diagnosed by chemical tests.
• In the humeral process when deposition starts at various places in
body then sometimes diagnosis can be done by chemical tests and
some times chemical tests are not helpful.
• By electro acupuncture diagnosis of both the phase (humeral and

• PANKAJ GUPTA
cellular) and the stage of disease in those six phases is possible.
Treatment can be given accordingly and could prevent the patient
from the serious disease of future.

PANKAJ GUPTA
Indications of diseases
• Inflammatory phase – stage of pain, swelling and irritation
• Degeneration phase

PANKAJ GUPTA
Combination of inflammatory and degenerative phase – this
happens in old and chronic diseases.
Acute focus of disturbance (Foci)

PANKAJ GUPTA
Inflammatory Phase
• Inflammation is a protective tissue response to an
trauma or destruction of tissues, which serves to
destroy, dilute or wall off both the injurious agent

PANKAJ GUPTA
and the injured tissues. The classical sign of acute
inflammation are pain, heat, redness, swelling and
loss of function.
• When inflammation happens, chemicals from your body's white
blood cells enter your blood or tissues to protect your body from
invaders. This raises the blood flow to the area of injury or
infection. It can cause redness and warmth. Some of the chemicals
cause fluid to leak into your tissues, resulting in swelling. This
protective process may trigger nerves and cause pain.

PANKAJ GUPTA
• Higher numbers of white blood cells and the things they make
inside your joints cause irritation, swelling of the joint lining, and
loss of cartilage (cushions at the end of bones) over time.
• When pathogen (An organism causing disease to its host) or
element enters into the cell of a healthy body, then Lysosomes of
the cell eat them and digest them with their own enzyme.

PANKAJ GUPTA
• But when these Lysosomes fail to do this job then they get burst
out from cell membrane, in outer cell liquid (chemical) and release
enzyme and enemy both. In this case enzymes starts digesting
other cell membranes. To stop this difficult situation blood flow
increase at that place. So the color of that place become red and
become hot and paining also. This place become not able to
perform its job. This situation is called Inflammatory Phase.
• It denotes that there is more Qi at the site of inflammation. There
is one exception of arthritis. In chronic arthritis there is less qi at
the site of inflammation.

PANKAJ GUPTA
The meaning of excessive energy is “itis” like spondylitis, glocytis
Degeneration Phase
• Degeneration is a change from higher to a lower or less
functionally active form.

PANKAJ GUPTA
• When in outer cell liquid, the non required elements remain
present then the function of the cell become imbalance and cell
starts degenerating. When the outer cell liquid become free from
non required element then cell restores its health. This is called
regeneration.
Non required elements are as follows
1. Glycoprotein
2. Albumin
3. Neutral fat

PANKAJ GUPTA
4. Lipid
5. Water
6. Fibrin
7. mucus
• In degeneration there is less than needed qi at the site of
degeneration. It causes numbness, lower functional capacity etc. it
is denoted by Ose or Sis like paralysis, neurosis, varicose etc.
1. Fibrosis

PANKAJ GUPTA
2. Contraction
3. Inhibitions
4. Parasymphatic activities
5. Cold
6. Stasis
Degeneration is normally associated with normal ageing but
also takes place prematurely when structures deteriorate
causing impaired function.

PANKAJ GUPTA
Combination of inflammatory and degenerative system
• It happens in the old diseases when inflammatory and
degenerative both type of systems appear.

PANKAJ GUPTA

PANKAJ GUPTA
• Acute Focus of Disturbance (Foci) in EAV
• The place where diseases appear is called Focus of Disturbance
(Foci). For example if some body have tooth pain then Foci is tooth,

PANKAJ GUPTA
but toothache is only manifestation of disease of internal organs,
joints and endocrine glands etc. so for treating this case, we should
treat focus of disturbance as well as related organ, endocrine
gland, spinal vertebrae etc. for the complete cure. Only treating
Foci will not cure the root cause of the disease and chances of
recurrence of disease will always be there.
• Protocols are prepared for different focus of disturbances in Electro
Acupuncture. Treatment given according to these protocols cures
very old and chronic diseases effectively.

PANKAJ GUPTA
There are following Focus of Disturbance (Foci) as per EAV
• Dental foci
• Foci in Tonsils
• Foci in nasal and paranasal sinuses

PANKAJ GUPTA
• Scars
• Diverticuli in the Small Intestine, Duodenum, including Meckel’s
diverticulum
• Diverticuli in the Large Intestine
• Bronchial Diverticuli
• Diverticuli in Esophagus or Stomach
• Appendicitis as Foci
• Biliary disturbance
• Genito urinary disturbance

PANKAJ GUPTA
Note –
• Tooth are the main foci for above 16 year of age.
• Tonsil are the main Foci for below the 16 year of age.
Effect of Foci
There are five types of effects of Foci
1. Humeral Effects of Foci

PANKAJ GUPTA
2. Neural Effect of Foci
3. Allergic Effects of Foci
4. Mixed forms of disturbance
5. Restricted fields of disturbance

PANKAJ GUPTA
Before the Electro Acupuncture treatment following points should be
taken into consideration.
1. There should not be any high voltage electronic instrument at the
place of treatment.

PANKAJ GUPTA
2. Patient should be seated on wooden or plastic chair rather than
iron chair.
3. Check the blood pressure of the patient on both the sides before
the treatment. There can be difference of 10 points between the
blood pressure of left and right side. More difference than this
suggests that either kidney is diseased of one side or there is focus
of disturbance of one side.
4. When there is disturbance in the functionality of pancreas and the
skin is dry and callous, then first moist the acu point with water

PANKAJ GUPTA
before treatment.
5. If the patient is sweating excessively and palms and feet are wet
from sweat, then treatment should be given after drying hands and
feet with towel.
The Basic Derivation
There are four basic derivations for the four quadrants of the body,
and one can begin the examination by measuring them in the
following order

PANKAJ GUPTA
1. Measurement value hand – hand
Where the positive stylus (electrode) is
kept with the right hand.

2. Measurement value hand – foot (left)

here the positive stylus is kept with the
left hand.

PANKAJ GUPTA
3. Measurement hand – foot (right)
The positive stylus kept with the right hand
4. Measurement foot – foot here the positive

PANKAJ GUPTA
stylus is connected with the right foot
