• Parents have spending controls available to help manage a child’s activity on the

platform
• We do not allow virtual currency earned from the sale of collectibles to be
converted into real money
• The communication between developers described in the reporting occurred
predominantly on other platforms, not Roblox. While we cannot control activity on
other applications that may have less stringent safety systems and policies, we
aggressively deter moving activity off of Roblox and will take action against
accounts when we are made aware of policy violations.
• If you look at the experiences that monetize on our platform, no matter how you
cut the numbers – top 1,000/5,000/10,000 developers by earnings or hours of
engagement in experience – the vast majority of devs are over 18 years old. For
example, about 90 percent of developers of the top 1,000 games by earnings are
over the age of 18. In general, the average age for top earning and/or engaging
developers is around 25 years old. While there are younger creators on our
platform, most are hobbyists building something fun for their friends and are not
building games to make money.

In particular, the commentary in the video omits or misrepresents some important facts:

PARENTS HAVE EASY TO USE SPENDING CONTROLS –


The video comments extensively on spending, especially on items within the platform,
yet only briefly mentions the key parental control features we use to safeguard user
accounts. In fact, parents can set limits on spending for any child account that would
prevent spending of the kind described in the video.

VIRTUAL ITEMS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR REAL MONEY –


Users (unlike developers) cannot exchange in-game virtual currency for real-world
currency on Roblox. Developers do have the option to convert -- if, for example, they
earn Robux via an experience they create -- but currency earned from trading virtual
items is not eligible to be converted.

ROBLOX HAS AN EXPERT TEAM OF THOUSANDS TO MODERATE CONTENT –

protecting our users and monitoring 24/7 for content that may violate our safety

ROBLOX CHAT FILTERING IS MORE STRICT THAN THE VAST MAJORITY OF


PLATFORMS, AND INCLUDES BLOCKING ATTEMPTS TO MOVE CHAT OFF
ROBLOX -
We filter all text chat on the platform to block inappropriate content, such as
discriminatory speech, bullying, extremism, violence, sexual content, etc., as well as
personal information and instructions on how to move off the platform. We update our
filters continuously, multiple times a day. For users under 13, our filters are even stricter
and include any potentially personally identifiable information, slang, etc. In order for us
to maintain a safe platform and prevent inappropriate content in violation of our policies,
users are also not able to exchange images or videos via chat or one-to-one user
interactions on Roblox.

ROBLOX PROVIDES UNIQUE SERVICES TO DEVELOPERS, WHICH MAKES


COMPARING FEE STRUCTURES ACROSS THE INDUSTRY COMPLICATED –
Unlike other platforms, which only provide a venue to find and download content,
Roblox allows developers to build and express themselves creatively – immediately,
with no coding background, and for free. With Roblox Studio (our free software to build
experiences), a developer can create an experience and publish across console,
desktop, and mobile immediately. We also eliminate complicated fee structures by
covering hosting, storage, platform customer support, safety/moderation, localization,
regulatory requirements, payment processing and platform fees. All of this is included in

KIDS LEARN SKILLS LIKE CODING AND 3D DESIGN FOR FREE ON ROBLOX
While the vast majority of top developers (by earnings and/or engagement) are 18 years
or older, many developers were first introduced to coding and software development
while building games for their friends on Roblox when they were younger. Education is
an integral part of our DNA, which is why we continue to provide free software and
curriculum to teach valuable STEM skills, such as coding and 3D design. Our platform
offers a unique opportunity for students to deepen their knowledge through hands-on
experiences, problem solving, and collaboration with other people in a way that no other
platform can. There are also many third-party educators who use Roblox to teach.

ROBLOX IS AGGRESSIVE IN PREVENTING USE OF THIRD-PARTY SITES (ie for


trading):
While the video was correct to highlight risks associated with using unauthorized third
party sites that are not affiliated with Roblox, it failed to acknowledge the proactive steps
we take to discourage users from doing so. It is expressly against our policies to direct
users offsite and we block users from sharing third party links in our chat features.

ROBLOX USES AN APPEALS PROCESS –


If someone believes we made a moderation error, we have an appeals process where
the issue can be addressed.

ROBLOX HAS A POLICY AGAINST SCAMS –


Roblox takes reports of abuse very seriously and where a violation of our Standards is
found (including scams), we take appropriate action on our platform against the
perpetrator.
