awe Course Objectives: “The main objective of this course isto widen the basic knowledge that the students have already gained in the field of hydropower engineering. This course wil provide the advance knowledge in hydropower engineering t's pianning as well 2s development concept. Course 1 Introduction (6 hrs) Implementation priority - Run-of-River, pondage and storage hydropower projects; Investigation of hydropower resources; Investigation of hydropower projects - Planning parameters end data-power market, hydrology, topography (surveys and Mapping), geology (soils and materials); Environmental issues; project appraisal and socio-economic consideration; hydropower development cycle Feasibility Studies / Detail Project Report (hrs) Introduction, general considerations; study of power market; hydrology; topography; geology; ‘environment; project plans; estimates and schedules; revenues; economic and financial investigations; reports; summary and check list : Hydropower Planning Approach (4 hrs) Least Cost Generation Expansion Plan (LCGEP) technique; Integrated Water Resources Management (WRN) principle - integrated planning approach; Basin-wise planning approach and Time-wise planning approach (short, medium and long term planning) and their significance’ in the context of Nepal Costs and Benefits Assessment in hydropower projects (Shr) Economie targets, comparison of alternatives, analyticel dimensions - tangible features, intangible features, risks, sensitivity analysis; estimating technique of cost and benefit for hydropower projec study of economic parameters for hydropower project - Interest, asset lives, cash flow; project ‘appraisal; Electricity Tariffs - Principles, Tariff forms (Fiat rate tarts, Block rate tarifs, Maximum demand tars, ime related tariffs etc); consumer categories; rate formulation Conveyance Structures (hrs) Unlined tunnel hydraulies-Introduction, friction losses in unlined tunnels, theoretical tunnel cross section vs, measured cross sectional area, singular hydraulic losses in tunnels; unfined vs. concrete lined tunnels; Sand in tunnels - threshold of movement of sand in tunnels, sand movement in tunnels with variable slope, flushing of tunnels; Optimisation study -Tunnels, penstock pipes.
